Enough with the debate over the possibility of US intelligence; obviously many people outside of the States feel that septics lack competence and many Americans feel otherwise.

Septics? How's that for a Freudian slip? ;)

BTW, I agree with you.

Given the current situation, however, I'd advise advowedly intelligent US gamers to take this opportunity to learn German.
I know I will.

I don't think that will be necessary. Even if the absolute worst were to happen and EU was not available in the USA, I am certain there will be an English version available, probably in the UK. With the Internet, almost anything is three clicks away, even if the shipping is going to be a bit expensive.

Anyway, as an American, I have limited use for German - I have to go to Europe or the UN to use it. Spanish would be the way to go. Yo quiero EU.

Hello all,

I would also like to know if Paradox is planning to release EU in Spain. In my case it is not much of a problem, because I am half British and I will probably go back to England for Christmas holidays, but some of my Spanish friends sometimes have a hard time reading in English, and I am sure they would welcome a Spanish version of the game.

Nevertheless, I am also sure that they would buy the game even if there was no Spanish version... provided the game could also be bought over here!

Kind regards, as always.

Martin

Well, frankly, all Paradox has to do is have a link I can follow to purchase the game, and they will have my money. I will do everything I can to make sure they will be reimbursed for their efforts.

As for the slights flying around about dumb Americans and what not, just drop it people : ) I have been to several countries in Europe and several states here. (And not just as a tourist either) If I learned anything, it is this: There are stupid, ignorant and mean people everywhere. There are also intelligent, thoughtful and kind people everywhere. No culture or society has a monopoly on either.

Our game market may think us dumb, but there ARE still intelligent games by small companies that are catering to us old grognards. Try www.battlefront.com for one.

Habro can try to give me its clones, and I will continue to burn them at the stake!

Hi all. I've read many of the posts and have a couple of comments and questions

First, I read that there is no agreement yet to release EU in the US, but is there a target date for the UK? Certainly across the UK, Canada, Australia, in addition to the US, there will be an English version.

Second, is there any plan to release a demo? I assume there will be no more beta testers allowed.

Unfortunately, the major game companies (the Cartel, someone called them) are mass marketers, and in mass marketing you appeal to the lowest common denominator. There are numerous small game companies, but working with many could be a problem. Regardless, while it won't sell millions of copies in the US, there are obviously some who would buy it - the presence of Americans on these bulletin boards shows that. There should be some good way to release it. Even if it's just a release through small gaming Web sites.

Who was it that mentioned Empires in Arms? I have it being played solitaire on my living room floor right now. And I've replayed Imperialism II some while waiting for a good European history game to come out. EU seems the closest to the game I've always wanted to create...

By the way, if it will help get the product released in the US, I promise to buy at least two copies! :)

Hi, like Tom, I would also like to know if there is a release date for an English version or not; as I think there will be no Hungarian version. I stopped to learn German when I finished elementary school, and this was a pretty bad decision. :)

Of course, here its gonna sell lots better if it's translated, but I'd personally rather buy the swedish version than the castilian :) in part thats cause im half swedish, but my swedish is almost as poor as my english(yes it is, jiminov). That's why i want to know if the game will use a complicated oldfashion swedish/english/whatever as in the portugal aar or not.

btw, let the etats-uniens(?) be! imho, we shouldnt blame'em fer having a film industry that ridiculizes the europeans so often that we want to point a finger on'em everytime we have the chance. it's true you can find a lot of homer simpsons in the world, but if you think US is full of'em.. visit castilla and you'll fall backwards :)

PS:benvingut de nou martin!

'<thud!> Doh!
The sound of Homer falling over in Castilla, perhaps he ate too many tapas and lost his balance?'

lol
might be, it could be due to having eaten 'ensaladilla russa'in putrefaction state XD

I think Sting has provided the best solution for Paradox. Battlefront scored a huge success with Combat Mission. This is a game only sold online. I ordered the game and got it within 2 weeks. Best wargame I have ever owned. Paradox should examine this possibility.

As for country bashing, I think this board has a very 'nice' form of flames compared to what you see on Usenet or other web boards. Anyone with a little distance to himself should be able to handle a little jokes. I know for sure (as a Finn living in Sweden you learn to handle this <g> ).

Tee, hee, hee... To mu knowledge, The Simpsons have never visited Spain... yet. Mind you, I would love to see Homer eating putrescent Russian Salad (or any other tapas in a non-edible condition) and see the consequences! :)

Half Swedish, pcomgre? Well, I am half British myself. It seems to me that you and me are some of the consequences of European tourists coming over to Catalunya for Sun, Beaches and Sangria! :D Ah, i moltes gracies per la benvinguda!

A note for Paradox: Spain is way, way behind other European countries when it comes to knowledge of English. This is one of the reasons why I strongly recommend to translate the game into Spanish. If you do not translate the software (and please do not do it! The Spanish version of civ2 is absolutely pathetic), at least translate the manual. It would increase dramatically the market here in Spain... thus increasing the likeliness of EU2!

Kind regards to all.

Martin

'Half Swedish, pcongre? Well, I am half British myself. It seems to me that you and me are some of the consequences of European tourists coming over to Catalunya for Sun, Beaches and Sangria!' You can say that again(no sé cap altra manera de expressar-ho millor)

'Ah, i moltes gracies per la benvinguda!'
No es mereixen.. cu**ons que bé que parles l'anglès! jo d'el suec gb ni m'en recordo!(encara q, probablement, si no fos pel suec no entendria una m*rda l'anglès..)

Now to the question again: :)
will the game use a complicated oldfashion language as in the portugal aar??

PS:forgot to say, i agree with martin, if yer gonna translate it, do it properly, if not, at least translate the manual
