I'm in the US and have posted a few times.

I don't care for the click-fest 'strategy' games or the first person shooters. (Reflexes aren't what they once were and I saw enough gore in Viet Nam to last me a lifetime). I play Impressions Games Caesar3, Pharaoh, and am looking forward to Zeus. All games about Mediteranean area ancient countries. I liked ImperialismII, RRT2, and I play Shogun. I liked Colonization and CivII. Bottomline is, there are lots of us in the US who have a brain and aren't afraid to use it in spite of what the US media portrays us as.

Impressions Games said on the Zeus forum I think it was the other day that the average age of the gamers who buy AND register their city building games is 40. These games have done pretty well in the US and are on store shelves (marketing) like Wal-mart, probably the most popular big store chain in the US. The exposure real strategy-type games have gotten from Impressions doing this is huge. CivII was on Wal-mart shelves as well for a long time. Wal-mart won't carry anything that won't sell. If it doesn't, it's out!

So I will be buying EU as I see a great game reflected in the AARs and on this forum. But, I'm with Jiminov, you've got to get into the market here the right way. One way is to have the right contacts with the right gamesites/mags. I see him volunteering to help make that happen. I'd like to see this game and Paradox do VERY well because this bodes well for the future of good strategy games. Thus, I suggest you guys take Jiminov up on his offer if you see your way clear to do this.

PS: Mine was a Commodore 64 serial # 00000001007 or something close. Should've kept it.

>>Not to nit-pik, but I noticed that the press release commented that the German market could be up to 100k of potential buyers and is considered the 'single most important for PC strategy games.' Does anyone really believe this statement is true.<<

jiminov, it is true. germany is the biggest games market in the world, they buy more board games per head than anywhere else, by a longshot. they are a bigger games market than USA

the annual essen games fair is the biggest games trade fair in the world. all big anglo games companies attend it, and all the smaller ones that can afford to

Don't forget Canada! My first computer was an Apple IIe too, and I can remember an article in Jeux & Stratégies (an old French magazine) about King Quest I : the sprite of the character could pass behind the trees in the scenery. It was a revolution !! I guess people under 25 can't imagine how computers have advanced since the venerable Apple, C64, TO 7 and other ZX Sinclair!

True, true. I had a ZX Spectrum myself. In fact, my alias - Doomdark - was the villain of a kick-ass game called The Lords of Midnight. It was something as strange as a first person strategy game with role-playing elements. They just don't make games like that anymore. :(

pfft, grandad.

You wouldn't have passed the physical endurance test to beta test EU. Johan demands, strong, young bucks such as me. While I and the other testers are slaving away for the good of the customer who's gonna be buying this game, you're there snoring happily after your midday coco. :D

Huh, you know we have internet and stuff like that in Europe. Some says that you are even able to order stuff by internet. Incredible, no?
Germany have site like that so order via internet.

As another lurker who has been prompted by this news to add his 2 cents, can I note:

1. I found out about this game through the June preview on Stratrgy Gaming Online. Therefore if you advertise/market/promote, they will come. But if you don't, what is the point in having a superior game no-one knows about.

2. Since Sapura has put so much effort into the AAR's, shouldn't Australia be rewarded with an early release of the game. Too often we get the rough end of the pineapple down here when it comes to games release date. Also given the trouble which Blizzard had in finding a distributor for Diablo II, you had better get to Australia sooner rather than later.

Until then I will be waiting for the big success in Germany so that you will have enough cash to finally jump into the English speaking market.

Like Leonidas, I'm a norwegian gamer who'd much prefer seeing an english language edition rather than the usual translation. However, this preference is based on the trend in Norway to take a game that's been released in english and translate it (badly) to norwegian, leading to inconsitent and/or incoherent phrasing almost constantly in-game. However, since Paradox games is swedish, I assume that at least the swedish-speaking edition will include decent language. If you've managed to accomplish this in norwegian also, I wouldn't mind playing in my native language.
On the other hand, considering the average swede's ability to comprehend spoken norwegian (unless we talk really slow), I have some doubt that this will be the case unless you've used a norwegian living in sweden or something of that sort.
So, like Leonidas, I'd really like an english language option in the norwegian release. Just in case.
Right, now two people have requested this. Please come up with a response, if anyone's listening. :)

Ach, du liebe! Falp, I KNOW you have internet in Germany, I visit the Weinheim town site a great deal, and I have several connections there. My question was whether there would be any computer problems running a German version on an American machine.

Heheh, actually I usually have no problem understanding Norwegian, excepting certain dialects. Danish is another matter - they have to talk really slow if I am to understand a word they're saying. :) Endre, do you have more trouble understanding Swedish or Danish?

Btw, I feel sorry for all you Finns, Norwegians and Icelanders who won't be able to play your own countries in EU. I guess you can sort of sympathize with Sweden or Denmark though... Or maybe not. ;)

Is an norwegian living in norway good enough as translator for you? :) Trust us, we've been releasing localised products in scandinavia since the early eighties.

Anyway, I've personally lived in norway for 4 years so for me it feels as natural to hear norwegian as swedish.

Hey! It’s the Swedish language that’s difficult to understand. :) After all, Norway was dominated for a rather long period of time by Denmark so our languages are much more alike than any of the other Nordic languages. Or, to be more precise, I find it a lot easier to understand the Norwegian language than the Swedish language.

Heh, I doubt they will play either Denmark or Sweden. They will probably want our countries to suffer... At least I plan on playing Denmark and (hopefully) change the result of the wars between Denmark and Sweden. Nothing is better than a little internal struggle for dominance in the Nordic family. :)

Hey Sting,

don't take it too serious. But if some American people look very surprised when they are told that Europeans knows about the
secrets of refrigerators even VCRs your question makes sense vice versa. ;)
Good luck upon your quest for Frauleins. (Are you a real dragon fighter?)

At least I plan on playing Denmark and (hopefully) change the result of the wars between Denmark and Sweden.

Well, it is the strategically sound thing to do. (It's the natural way to expand.) Of course, Denmark would have had an easier time than Sweden going colonial, so that might have been a viable alternative to wars in Scandinavia.

Sweden, on the other hand, needed the crops of Skåne to avert starvation. Also, it was not acceptable to be 'bottled up' in the Baltic Sea.

Nothing is better than a little internal struggle for dominance in the Nordic family.

Maybe it's entertaining in a game, but consider reality; where would we be today if Scandinavia had always stood united? A Scandinavian Union would have been a Great Power.

Sorry my german is a bit rusty...
No I was just joking. The evening before my last message, I had a kind of american dumbness experience with US tourists in Paris (France) (a kind of fat wearing shorts couple surprised that my girlfriend speaks fluent english. She said she is Australian actually. They were amazed (saying in a slow you-dumb-foreigner-not-english-speaking) how well you learn english in some european countries.
They must have thought she was from Austria...

Well, no offense taken :) You should have seen the faces of the German tourists here when I would start breaking out in German (I worked at a bank for a while and was always the 'interpreter') Now, many non-Amis would not be surprised with a US citizen speaking Spanish...but German? Twas always a polite surprise for them, though, and I have no doubt they walked away knowing that some of us Amis are not a lost cause. :)

Ack...how many months until release?

Or perhaps they really believed that Australia was in Europe.
