Considering the strange behavior on features/fixes with patches and DLCs combined with the lack of Frontpage presence i somehow have the feeling PD has allready "abandond" EU4 and just tries to get as much out of it as possible before the ship finally sinks.

This makes me very sad :(

will Gibraltar EVER be a trade center or at least an "STRAIT" god sake? Why would Great Britain take it? It has no value.

The new canal mechanic seems to fit here, considering the main reason it's been left out has been balance (Spain would blob into Africa). But if it were to cost a whole lot of ducats and only be possible with advanced tech, that would likely solve the balance issues.

This is going offtopic (btw, need new diary this week). But do you really expect something that can turn Gibraltar into an EU-strait? like a 10 mile wide bridge before 1800 ? The Panama canal is easy compared to that.
Gibraltar someday may get some trade bonus (sui generis like The (Bosporus) Sound Toll), it's not a center of trade. A few other strategic locations could use such bonuses, too (places that were no trade centers but occupied important postions along the routes, able to extract tolls and the like)

There are straits between the Danish islands as well, and there was no bridge there either. The distance from Gibraltar to Ceuta is about the same as from the Inner Hebrides to the Outer Hebrides, and much shorter than Kurland to Ösel and Sweden to the Åland islands which are all in the game. Actually, if you count from the tip of Spain to the closest point in Africa, that is shorter than the Inner Hebrides-Outer Hebrides distance. Being able to add and remove straits by events and decisions would be great!

Again, offtopic. Straits being there for gameplay purposes from the beginning like those between the Danish Islands are very different from 'switching on' a strait at your leisure. The Åland crossing is pretty unrealistic, too, but it doesn't connect two continents, so the effect is small.
Many straits are questionable, but next to none can be considered toggleable - if a permanent bridge was a realistic (and not too extravagant) endeavour before the 20th century, there usually is a land connection already (with a few exceptions like the Pomeranian straits).
Make a new thread / ask to split this off, if you want to discuss this.

Historically, the britsh (Recently 'united' in 1707) took Gibraltar to patrol trading (TRADE! The expasion is about wut? Barrels?) into Europe, after there victory during the war of Spanish Sucession. Gibaltrar is, together with Constantinople, an major link between Europe and the Orient. Also, Strait as not BRIDGES, there are representation of 'easier' sea traveling, with supply, fast ships then Cogs. They represent 'Sea Bridges'. Gibraltar was an 'port of trade' (TRADE! omg) until the fall of Al-Andalus. It IS an major piece in history. The Britsh wouldn't take it if wasn't. TRADE! CHEESE!

Don't take it the wrong way, but your post is as clear as a runny number 2.
All I was able to understand is that you are unhappy about the misrepresentation of trade(?), but not why.

So, uh, I can see a dev diary #10 which is not mentioned in this thread. Was there by any chance also a dev diary #9? And what exactly is the point of this thread if it never gets updated?
