I am yet to see any resemblance of "wide" empires in the game ... As long as there is NOTHING to do during peace time - WC is the goal.

of course this is subjective... and each player chooses his goal...
i find WC distasteful and immersion-breaking, but if you find it fun... go ahead and pursue it...
i was only saying that the official purpose of the game is not WC...

Actually I am trying to do everything else BUT conquering, but ... the game mechanics and whatnot are not really helping when everything is designed to help you conquer more land ..

The clock shows penalty/bonus for ahead of time / neighbour bonus. So if you're 1 year ahead of time and have a neighbour bonus of 2%, it will show that the tech is 8% more expensive. Purely an interface improvement.

And a useful one. Thanks!

I hardly think 'this change prevents WCs from occuring' would be classed as a bad thing by the developers.

EU4 is a wargame and by that it's a conquest game. If i want to be able to conquer the entire world, and by that i mean paint it in one single color, i should be able to do just that.

But the single most important and good change in 1.6 is that coring time stays the same regardless of your empire size. Which means that Ottomans are going to be in a really sweet spot for doing a "green" WC.

Oh damn, this patch has a lot of + and - in my book:

+AE for vassalization (and hopefully annexation, too?) fixed. The concept that taking 5 territories causes more AE then EXTERMINATING a nation was weird. If it all scales upon number of provinces now, that's more reasonable.

+The Westernization changes will have an really interesting impact. Namely, it makes Westernization much less useful for close tech groups like Eastern or Ottoman. Even the units aren't just as powerful, this sounds like it won't be a MUST HAVE requirement to westernize in lategame to be able to compete militaryly.

-15*basetax? Ouch. But at least that means diplo points will have much worth. Though I'm not sure whether this change doesn't kick the naval/colonist nations, as those actually need diplopoints both for tech and exploration. At least early on. As well, does this mean annexation speed was massively improved? If you say it takes 15/month and it'S 15/tax, that means 1month per basetax... opposed to 5-15 years diploannexe took previously (regardless of size).

-I don't think I can support the changes to colonization. This might lead to people complaining that colonization became even less profitable (since early colonies now take twice as long). As well it makes Native gameplay even more boring.

+Coring time fix and more notable wars? Yes please.

-I don't think the neighbour bonus was abusable enough to actually justify that reduction from 5 to 2.

+Finally a competent and reasonable solution for the Unity issue. Nice.

+Looking forward to more reliable and reasonable AIs.

? Does that mean the 'not far enough overseas' provinces count as 'full mainland' and accordingly extend mainland to all connected provinces? As in, Castille owning Africa would consider all of Africa mainland? Or only those provinces that are close enough to the capital?

-I feel like the production change is another, unneeded, buff to European powers. And makes lowbasetax provinces of non-europe even more useless.

In addition to these general improvements, some work has also been done to make allying with the AI a better experience. First of all, the importance AI places on trust has been increased considerably, with AI nations much less likely to turn on a highly trusted ally. The way you make the AI trust you has also been reworked - it's no longer enough to be allied for a long time, you have to actually fight in their wars and give them things they want in your wars if you want the AI to trust you. If you actively work to help your allies, they will be more likely to stick by you when the going gets tough.

Additionally, a new opinion modifier called 'Wants your provinces' has been added, which scales according to the amount of land you own that the AI would like to own, and with the importance they place on that land. Additionally, the AI is now much less likely to turn hostile against a nation they have a high opinion of, and will never go hostile against a nation they have more than +100 opinion of. This will show you exactly why an AI nation is hostile towards you, and will cause them to behave more logically; an AI nation that likes you a great deal won't break the alliance just because they want a province or two from you, but if they're looking to take everything you own nothing will push that opinion into positive numbers.

So no more helping sweden get indepence and eat denmark and norway only to have them rival you at 200 opinion?

Seems like this was about damn time.

Wiz, if Tangiers is no longer considered overseas for Spain, what about other African holdings that are connected to Tangiers? If Spanish Kongo is connected by owned territories to Spanish Tangiers, is Kongo still considered overseas?

Yes, provinces outside that range and not connected by land to your capital will be overseas.

Administrative Efficiency sounds great. Does it mean we'll be able to pull a Napoleon and vassalise half of Europe in the late game?

The province cost reduction also reduces cost of vassalization, release nations, etc, so... probably!

any changes to colonial nations policy, do they still get protectorates and after they grew can they decide to annex them?

Your subjects (including colonial nations) are now blocked from making protectorates.

Is it official that you're no longer able to culture convert provinces as you used to?

Culture conversion is blocked in provinces with nationalism and provinces where the primary tag still exists and the province is not overseas from that tag. So if Portugal exists you can't cultureconvert Porto, but you'd be able to culture convert provinces you conquered off them in Brazil after the nationalism is gone.

Just did a quick calculation that it would cost 1125 DP (75 BT) to annex full size Byzantium (with Albania). That would be about 15,5 years if you had a God ruler with 6 in diplomacy and no advisor and 10,4 years with "God ruler" and +3 advisor.

Clearly Paradox has no idea what they are doing. Or smoking. Or drinking for that matter in that "famous" couch.

This move is making vassals even more worthless than they are already. Except if you are emperor and constantly release new "free" vassals that you later on annex by clicking renovatio imperii.

I'm not particularly fond of the cost for diploannexing provinces. You already spend bucket loads of diplo technology doing core returns so why does paradox have to make fun aspects of their game (vassalising, diploannexing, selling provinces) much harder.

Please tell us that you fixed vassals not buying provinces of their same culture which they used to own. There seem to be bizarre -1000 maluses for doing so.

AI Improvements

The AI has received its usual slew of improvements, particularly in the areas of naval warfare, trade and budgeting (as well as plenty of bug fixes).

Whoa, this is great! But by 'hostile', is the sudden (and sometimes seemingly random) rivalry addressed as well? As Poland, it's quite weird being rivalled by Castile who are fighting unending wars against GB and still no rivalry between them.

That is completely irrelevant. No vassal of that size would EVER agree to being annexed. Especially not the Roman Empire. You have clearly no idea what a vassal is.
