I made a post about this but be warned the -100 to many great power allies is pretty much broken.

I lost france as an ally due to that malus when i had no other great power allies.

I even reloaded and removed all my minor allies Mecklenburg etc and still lost France as an ally

Cant re ally cant get England Denmark any worthwhile power due to this malus.

am i a great power? nope just playing a trading hansa with a whoping 13k military 3 provinces
You might be a great power. I haven't seen any explanation in-game about what confers that status.

Does France have a GP ally? If it does, and you are on the edge of being a GP, that could explain what is happening to you.

frances only ally is the papal states and they only have tiny army and Rome.

There are way to many nations stronger then me in the world for me to be a great power.

You can tell easily if you're a Great Power - look at your relations with other nations that definitely are; France, England/GBR, Spain, Portugal, etc. If you have a "-25 Competing Great Power" opinion penalty, then you're a GP and so are you.

So check a bunch of big nations, and if you don't see that on any of them, you can't be a GP.

If it's a non-Ironman game, try tag switching to France and confirm that they are a GP (surely they are), and also confirm if Papal State is one.

If you're not a GP, then it's obviously a bug.
If you are a GP but PAP is not, and France have no other allies, then it's obviously a bug.

Note that GP status does fluctuate; I believe it's calculated from the Score. So it's possible you were once then aren't again now - so keep checking if you can get that alliance or not.

Should be a option when you start a game how you want your AE to be, option 1 Bit of coalitions will happen, moderate AE to countries that are affected by your expansion(neighbours to country you took land from and neighbours to you that are decently close to country you took land from) guess this would be the realistic setting.
Option 2: easy mode, pre patch setting with AE having little to noone effect unless you went batshit crazy with expansion
Option 3: OH NOES HE TOOK 1 PROVINCE! ME SMASH MODE! (current setting with huge unrealistic coalitions of countries that dont have anything in common whatsoever)

- You can now force countries to cancel protectorates in a peacetreaty, just like breaking vassalage.
- Steppe Nomads can no longer become Protectorates.
- Nations that are supporting independence will now automatically join their supported nation in an independence war unless they have a truce or is fighting in a war together with its overlord.
- Raised diplovassalize base tax cap from 30 to 40
- Increased duration of CB on Form Personal Union missions from 10 to 100 years
- Gaining a core while having the overextension-view open no longer kills the whole list.
- Relative base tax now matters when trying to make countries into protectorates diplomatically.

Hmmm, PERFECT!

Can anyone report if the update is compatible with prior games? I'm in the last 50 years of an Iron Man game and it would be a shame if I'm not able to finish it.

It probably is. Whether it is or not, you have no choice but to try it. There's no way you can continue it in 1.4.1. So load it up and see what happens.

AI: Will no longer accept an offensive call to arms if the caller has a previous offensive war they would not want to join

Is that during the period you were allied with them, "within the last x amount of years" regardless of whether they were your ally or not, or any war ever?

Is that during the period you were allied with them, "within the last x amount of years" regardless of whether they were your ally or not, or any war ever?

It means active war. E.g. as England in 1444 fighting against France, you can't DOW Scotland and then CTA Portugal and Castile and have them join because that would make them join against France as well, which they would not do if asked directly.

Ok so I completely misinterpreted that. Good thing too as the way I read it I was imagining a country going "No I will not join this war because 300 years ago you started an offensive war against X country and we would not have wanted to join that, so we will not join now."

I am looking forward to restarting my Tuscany game, especially with the new change that AI will cede sieges to the war leader if it is of no interest. Thank you for that as there has been some frustrating moments caused by that in the past.

- Fixed a bug where vassalizing a country and taking over their wars would result in all your allies dishonoring your alliance

Still not fully fixed. I just lost all my alliances thanks to the defensive CTAs as Spain enforced peace on my colonial subject. I expect a hotfix on this sooner than later.

And since the "great power" thing got more important, I'd like to be able to see who the great powers are at a glance. Perhaps there could be an icon for it on the diplomacy screen and the ledger could have a list of current great powers, as well as a notification for when a nation becomes/falls out of the status.
