The deplorable representation of the New World is less than surprising. As such I'm going to try to release a EU4 version of American Empires within a week or so of release. That should make the New World vastly more interesting than in vanilla.

Sounds interesting.

I'd say one is more correct in French, and one is more correct in English. The game is in English, and we are all speaking English right now. People in the region (such as news reporters, local historians) are more likely to say the word in conversation and do not say it as Quill claims.

Gee, Paradox and their history of eurocentric favortism and values is being repeated in a game? What a surprise.

It shouldn't come as any surprise, they aren't created ingame to offer that ultimate challenge to a dedicated player, they exist to represent stuff for the game to eat up, their history and challenges aside in the real world. They exist in the game, to be some untamed savages that need to be exterminated, and their lands repopulated with some europeans, or at least that's how it's represented to us.

But hey, at least we're not at the EU3 state, where you take penalties simply because you're not some white Catholic in europe, given a third of content and flavor in most things. Because that would be questionable.

... Why do you play any of their games?

The Aztecs didn't even hold gold so highly as the europeans because they weren't using it as a form of currency, only for some fancy decorations. In fact I heard somehwere the Aztecs called gold the "poo of the gods" (for the lack of a better description).

Yes, that is what I meant. Instead of "gold", these provinces should product something else. Maybe jewelry or something like that(to represent how the Aztecs actually used the gold). And then, become 'gold' when the European take over. They probably could become "gold" even for the natives, for the process of westernization, to represent the adoption of the invaders customs and currency.

... Why do you play any of their games?

Because I enjoy the difference of what's usually offered to gamers, the challenges and victories faced when I play. I like Paradox and their games, but I'm not going to follow the growing trend of forums becoming like biodrones, praising literally everything, offering five dollars for so and so, and chasing off anything different with fire and pitch forks.

Paradox goes the extra mile, no denying that, but there are flaws. And in order to be great, you have to address and deal with flaws and critism, not insult and chase off those that disagree, or call them naysayers. One problem is a trend of Eurocentric views in the games, and EU3 showed that, by making non white non catholics always second best, at best, in everything. Then to add to that, they got a third of content generally, as favortism was paid to certain blobs.

The complaint people are giving in this thread is simple, the americas were done as we long suspected they would be, shoddily. Then to further smack them down is the insulting idea that they take a -2 on top of it, further demonstrating the idea that they exist solely to just be killed and conqured.

Maybe they'll fix it with some patches, or add some DLC to further expand on these lands. I personally relish the idea of seeing non-europeans getting equal flavor and challenges, and to be able to rise to, even surpass the others. Anything that makes each play session less predictable than the last.

At least it can be said that it's not as awful as playing as Congo. Congo essentially has literally almost nothing to do in EU3, no known neighbours, an inability to colonise, and only a couple of provinces, meaning that Westernisation is both luck-based and more unlikely than anywhere else, due to the need to sell provinces or have them conquered partially, before Westernising, due to the adjacent Western province requirement.

That was sarcasm. Just makes me wonder how screwed over the asian and middle eastern nations will be. Korea was mentioned in the diares, and I'm hoping it at least got some good treatment.

You can only revise so much of history before it is simply fantasy. The fact of the matter is that during the majority of the EU4 era, Europe was supreme militarily and technologically (I would say culturally and politically, but then the relativists would spew their BS) and therefore should be represented as such.

Ok. There is the word missing in translation, and there is full-blown misunderstanding.

No one is saying that the Mesoamericans should beat the Europeans. What is being said is that:

- the scenario represented is sheer fantasy. Like putting Swabia, Westphalia and Prussia in Germany in 1444.
- gameplay is almost as fun as watching paint dry. Very, very liquid paint.

This is it. It's not a "BUFF MESOAMERICANS", but a "give Mesoamericans, you know, gameplay".

I don't think anything is going to be changed close to release, but hopefully the devs can be convinced to expand on it in DLC.

This isn't anything new, though. Whenever we get a thread about the lack of detail in America, Africa, (and back in EU3, India,) there's always a whole load of posts exclaiming that "EU is about Europe, people!"

Which then raises one of the greatest question to counter that point.

Why have all these other nations playable, if Europeans are the only thing that matter?

Why have all these other nations playable, if Europeans are the only thing that matter?

Because if they were not playable, everyone would be angry at PI, and it would be super easy to edit the game to make them playbales like in CKII before DLCs!
Personnaly, I fully support this idea of giving more flavour to forgetten countries as the american ones (especially meso and south americans). Though, right now, they are not particularlcy pleasant to play or to interact with (I guess), why not a DLC later, or, even better, a great mod everyone would contribute to ?

And, you know, even if the non-european countries are not as developped as the europeans one, you can't deny hordes, chinese factions, japonese shogunate etc.. are appreciable features, even if not fully evolved.

I don't think anything is going to be changed close to release, but hopefully the devs can be convinced to expand on it in DLC.

Indeed, and by acting angry and irritated we can convince them that there is actually a profit to be made in creating a DLC for Native Americans. Torches and pitchforks!

Good to see paradox taking the historical route on this and not bending to the pc crowd.

I don't think many of the posters are upset because paradox isn't being "politically correct". I think they feel from a mechanics/game play point of view it looks quite boring to start in the Americas.

I would argue that it is still very hard to judge how North/South American nations will play. Quill hardly did anything in the short video (not exactly a representative sample). He is also playing in a pre-release build, so what we are seeing is not guaranteed to be what we will be playing at release.

Everyone cheer up, 3 weeks to go :D
