We're doing a development diary every day for the rest of the week now, with beta AAR's coming up next week.

The converter will let you take any point in time in the Crusader Kings II game and convert that into a game in Europa Universalis IV. The converter does not need specifically save file of Crusader Kings II but only a point in time so you can convert even the early start date of The Old Gods DLC if you want to. You do not need to finish a Crusader Kings II game to convert it into Europa Universalis IV.

The converter will be given free to everyone who preorders EUIV in a digital version, saving you the 9.99$/€ cost.

Crusader Kings II features a lot of content with focus on europe, which gives us more nations, different religions, culture groups and so on. So let's say you managed to save zoroastrianism from extinction in your game, you want that to carry trough but vanilla Europa Universalis IV doesn't support it. So we went with the decision that the converter will dynamically create a mod that Europa Universalis IV loads.

Among the dynamically created things are nation tags, vassals, flags. We've tried to transfer as much as possible of the CK2 game over. Things that are transfered are for example religions, cultures, goverment form and special events. Independent Counts and Dukes of CK2 will be happy to know that they get a promotion while converting to a full king status. Buildings, wars and technology are not exported as there is no way to map them to something in EU4 in any snesible way.

Every independent nation are converted to an EU4 equivalent where possible. Where it is impossible to map it to an already existing one a new nation is created with it's own unique flag.

The whole vassal hiearchy of europe is of course not properly converted because of EU4 having a more global focus, but we do convert as much as possible. If a nation when being exported have the lowest crown authority, autonomous vassals, then the largest vassals of the nation are made independent and get a vassal relationship with the liege nation in EU4. The Holy Roman Empire is also specially cared for and it's members are dynamically created and it's electors chosen based on what vassals the empire had. The seven largest vassals of the empire will become electors of the empire the rest will be the normal princes. However if you export a game where the HRE has managed to get the highest crown authority, it will be exported as a united nation.

With The Old Gods DLC the religions in CK2 was remade a bit and we got several unique religions that yo ucan reform. These religions will be converted to either Shamanism or Animism as long as they are not reformed. When you manage to reform them they become a proper religion in EU4 as a reward for your hard struggles.

Also as many have asked about Sunset Invasion. Yes we have done some extra for Sunset Invasion, You will have two enormous empires in the west competing for world dominance and viewing Europe as primitive savages.

Wow, a dev diary besides the announcement? You sure put a lot of focus into this

Edit:
Wait, since no wars are imported, does it mean that rebels go independent or treated as a regular vassal?

How are National Ideas handled by the converter? For example if there's both an independent Kingdom and Duchy of Bavaria who will get Bavaria's national ideas or will they both get them?

Or how about Lithuania? Does the duchy get the national ideas or does the kingdom get them?

Does that mean I can start as any country (eg, England) on the year 867 A.D. in EUIV (When converting CK2 to EUIV)? Also, thank you very much for more info on nthe converter, Johan :) . I cannot wait to start using it :) .

In the stream, they showed that EU4 will still start in 1444 no matter what date you convert from.

The one that converts to the EU4 tag.. most likely the kingdom.

Will the convertor only work with vanilla games, or also with some mods? Take these examples:
- Will the convertor convert a custom religion (the paradoxian religion, for example) that has been reformed in a game to EU4?
- If you have a mapmod which adds for example one extra province (Paradoxland, in Sweden), can the convertor handle that?
- If you have added new countries (the Great Paradox Empire), will they be converted to EU4 too?

you need to modify the scriptfiles to check your mod data...

This looks really well thought out, especially with the fact it creates a Dynamic mod, rather than a save. I'm incredibly impressed by the scale of the convertor, it's more than I was expecting.
