Yep. Should have just stuck with Steam like I do for 95% of my games.. =\

Maybe Paradox should disable all GG versions of their games, that would really prove that steam is better!

I have a question. I pre-ordered EU4, but I have never been interested in CK2. Does the save-converter add new content to the base EU4? Or does EU4 remain the same? Because I don't want content from CK2 in my EU4 game.

This is great news. I like how it will add an extra strategic dimension to late-game CK2- you will actually have a reason to get your crown authority as high as possible, so that you get the benefits of a more centralised realm in EU4. It means there will be plenty of long-term goals to aim for, besides 'reckless blobbing'. In fact, it might actively discourage blobbing, if your low-authority multi-ethnicity empire is likely to crash and burn in EU4.

But will it work with Mac?

It should; you can pre-order a Mac version, and the basic code for the games themselves is all the same, so there shouldn't be any reason it wouldn't, and it would be kinda dickish to offer something to customers that can't use it.

It makes a 'mod' based on what content was in the save. Any countries that are not in the base EU4 are created by the converter. If I understand the stream correctly, converted save 'mods' will have their own section on the launcher. But the new content will only be in that 'save mod'.

Relax. Moving away from Steam is always a good thing in the end :)
Think of it this way - it'll be the first Paradox game that you actually own, not just "borrow"!

The GG version of EU4 is literally just a steam code. So you're still buying the Steam version of the game.

GG literally sells you a steam code so you're still relying on Steam and are in the exact same situation. You're not "sticking it to the man" by ordering through GG.

I guess the need for two separate converters is a result of steam CK2 being different than GG CK2? The whole situation is kinda confusing but I do everything through Steam so I don't need to worry.

You might want to read an EULA for any piece of software. You own none of it, you own a license for it, not the software itself. Has been like this like... forever.

The converter is CK2 'DLC', it converts within the game itself thats why they need a separate version for GG, it isn't a separate program.

Does the converter bring across culture names? So if I bring a Saxon England into EUIII will my diplomats and advisers have names like Aelthelrad and Wulfhere or whatever?

I assume the converter will grab the localization names of all existing cultures in CK2 and replace the EU4 names with CK ones. Same thing with country colors.

I assume it's just that you need the CK2 DLC that you get along with EU4 to be attached to your GG account rather than your Steam account, so that it works with and can convert your GG CK2 into a mod that will work on Steam-only EU4, as it's a DLC, and the CK2 DLC have always been non-transferable between GG and Steam.

I assume the converter will grab the localization names of all existing cultures in CK2 and replace the EU4 names with CK ones. Same thing with country colors.

Yes, it has been confirmed that the converter will bring over country colours, but there has been conflicting info of colours. I heard that the CK colour overrides, while I've also heard that it will take the colour of the EU4 version of the country if there is one.

Not sure about cultures, but Arabic countries that are named after the ruler will keep their names.

If the Hellenic religion doesn't crash down into animism/shamanism I will be very tempted to start a new game to try and carve out a Hellenic Kingdom of Egypt to bring through to EU4...

Only reformed religions are converted, others turn into animalist and something else, forget what.

Animist and Shamanist. Hellenism wasn't made to be played so I don't think it's worth making any extra for it until an official patch or DLC makes it reformable and adoptable outside ruler designer.

I'd hazard a guess that EUIV colours will override if there's corresponding EUIV tag.

True. Though if they are adding support for reformed pagan religions I would imagine it would be straightforward to mod the EU4 mod file created to keep going with it. I have a reformed Norse game in progress, I suppose I could look at how they handle that and just add that code to a non-reformed mod that has been generated from a different play-through. Probably the cleanest way to deal with it. I'll have to be going in to fiddle with the mods anyways as I end up setting up custom Kingdom and Empire names if the emerging realm I'm building doesn't fit an existing name. I don't like having a bunch of Norse forming a kingdom in Scotland calling their kingdom "Scotland", since they are in the process of removing the Scots from the area. It would be like the Scots calling their kingdom Pictland. If they are expanding from Suðreyjar, the kingdom should be named as such...

It was strongly implied that the Aztecs and Inca will be more advanced that Europe if you used Sunset Invasion. I don't think they'll be able to use colonists in Europe, but I guess they will be able to annex lands and administer them like colonies just as you would as - for example - the Spanish conquering Mexico in a normal campaign.

What tech level and tech group a converted game will have for Pagans & Muslims.

Whether the Aztecs and other Native Americans will be able to colonize if you convert a SI game.

Seems to depend on the tech level your converted save has, the vikings in yesterdays livesteam were of eastern tech group. I dont have SI, but i dont think the azteks are that more advanced they just have long boats and lots of troops. I think you can just continue where you left of and conquer the rest of europe since europe is all settled.
