What is strange to me is that they removed sliders.I remember someone from PDS saying that if something was working well before there is no reason to change it, well I never heard anyone complaining about sliders, so why remove it?
They worked reasonably well in the sense of being well-balanced and definitely not broken, however they still left a lot to be desired about them. They just decided to supplant them with laws instead because that system would have the same good qualities as sliders, and have the additional benefits of being much more flexible.

To paraphrase it, sliders did work, but did not work well enough.

I actually like that so you have to teach/build diplomats ???

Glad to see the shogun system go, I would add the China system in DW as well. Enforced stagnation is not fun!

Suprised to see the DP sliders go though, that worked pretty well IMHO. I hope they don't go back to having hardcoded equivilant (i.e Russia always has max quantity and serfdom). Being able to mold your country to suit your style was a big advance.

I really hope they have good replacement for sliders. And when I think about it they probably removed them because they have something superior.

Magistrates: Good riddence. Waiting for Magistrates to generate so you could build more stuff sucked up so much of my attention in DW that I found it really detracted from my overall enjoyment of the game.

Core changes: Not sure. On the one hand, it's so easy to get new cores in EU3, even in places far removed from your heartland, that it makes the concept feel a bit meaningless after a while. On the other hand, it is a core (no pun intended) part of the game. I'll be interested to see how the concept is being reworked.

I'm glad spies/magistrates are gone. I remember the feeling when I started the game and didn't fully understand what every agent did - later I discovered spies were pretty useless and lame. Cutting things not used (sell province/loans?) is a wise decision and makes starting the game feel simpler, while retaining the same level of gameplay.

When I saw the title my first thought was "hordes are gone" but then they aren't on the list... I hope one of the 50 diaries coming will be about that. You must have some new brilliant idea for them.

Pretty happy with that. Glad magistrates are being removed in particular, I remember starting and waiting years for them, and then having so many and nothing to do with them...
The Shogunate system is probably going to be the most controversial, I'm not yet sure if it's good or not.
Spys were a bit wishy-washy, I didn't really like using them. Can't say I'm really upset about losing them.

I think, there should be white beaches between land and sea. It would give better visuality:

I actually like those beaches too. And I don't think we should automatically assume that because something isn't in this OP it means it's returning exactly the same from EU3... I would think and hope that things like hordes and colonization will be tweaked.

Very good, I agree with all these removals :D. Magistrates - very annoying, Spies - kind of a tabu to me, Core - stupid to always take 50 years no matter the conditions, Sliders - never liked them, good riddance. Agents - It seems there is no more the limit of 5, you start with limit of 1-2 and probably can increase the limit somehow, at least diplo&merch have names and very probably aren't 1 time use, it would be interesting if they could gain traits (like if merchant fails at his trade mission) and be able to dismiss him, though maybe going too far about it.
Though all changes are good only if they will be replaced with better stuff, hope it'll be so.

I see no response about hordes, I pretty much hate the way it is like now, I'm hoping it will be changed at least and no more automatic wars... CoA or flag depending on dynasty would be awesome, but probably too complex to do, it could bring some weird situations... Hope trade rights/leagues remain somehow, and a "Buy province" option would be nice.

Good call on most of those changes, and a very good idea to rip the band aid early, lessens the forum shitstorm!

I have some misgivings about the removal of the slider system, but I'm excited t o see what you're replacing it with.

Sad to see the Shogunate system go, and hope to see it refined and return at a later date.

Sliders going will be strange. I will miss them too, and hope they are replaced by something as intricate, complex, and diversified as they were.

So long as EU4 has at least the same level of complexity, diversity, and options as EU3 with DW had I will be a very happy camper when it comes out.

As for the beaches post. I like the first one better, but both offerings are a visual improvement over the original.

And I think I should say that I do like the Horde system in EU3. I think it does a pretty good job at mimicking history and the gameplay works well. Of course it could be tweaked and refined a bit maybe, but overall I hope it stays. I also hope to see the game start date pushed to an earlier one at some point, the earlier the better imo.

Overall, cheers to EU4!

I have to refresh my concern from page 5 about the horde system:

Will this system be purged as well?
