Spies: Im ok with this, never worked well
Japan: The system was indeed boring, however i hope you dont just unite japan into one blob again
Trade: Your new trade system looks amazing, i have alot of faith in it
Magistrates and cultural tradition: Completely agree good riddance
50 year cores: I actually liked this system, it was pretty realistic in that it takes time to make a province function optimal, and it also limited the expansion for all which is nice to keep blobs in check, however im sure your going to implement a system which still does this
Domestic Policies: I LOVED this feature, it really identified countries like Muscowy, France and England in their own way, also the fact that it takes time to change a country from within is pretty realistic

While its understandable to drop the Shogunate system, it is rather diapointing as simply playing a unified Japan from the start of the game only to put down a few rebellions removes an aspect that was rather enjoyable in Divine Wind. I hope some comprimise can be met with how Japan is to be played out.

I think I'll miss sliders, but I'm excited to see what they are replaced with. When I first saw the sliders I though they were a wonderful way of making different countries unique, but the more I've used them the more I've pushed whatever country I've played in the same direction every time...

Sliders are also the only change where I can see impact for other games (HOI4).

The other stuff all sounds like changes which will certainly be for the better! If I never have to send out another merchant/magistrate or spy again I'll be a happy gamer.

I certainly hope the War of the Rose event is more than a pretender rebel popping with a slightly different text, if the goal is to add actual extra flavor to the countries.

Some events are just that - one little flavor event with not too much influence on gameplay. But the War of the Roses is more than that.

While its understandable to drop the Shogunate system, it is rather diapointing as simply playing a unified Japan from the start of the game

No one from Paradox has said it will be a unified Japan.

I'm a bit concerned about the purge of sliders, mostly because if they were replaced with laws the game may seem too...linear (at least laws as I experienced them in CK2 and Vicky2)--it no longer becomes 'you have high aristocracy!' and becomes 'you don't have private property yet!'

I think that at the moment the most useless EU3 feature is National Focus. This is an unrealistic, gamy mechanism that does not add to the game play and is only used once every 15-20 years. For me this is the first feature to cut. A thing that definitely should be redesigned is sieges/battle mechanics. Sieges are simply boring, you just sit there and wait long enough, no uncertainty, no suspense. A number of attackers equal to number of defenders is always enough to cut off defender's supplies, and even in the case of coastal provinces whose capital city was endowed with a merchant harbour, there is no way to resupply the castle/fortress by water. Another thing is that two armies in the same province always meet. In general, warfare is too predictable (which encourages blobbing) while in reality it always was a risky business.

I don't mind most of the features that will be removed, however the decision to remove the Shogunate system is stupid and thoughtless.
Even if it takes a lot of time to maintain, it represented Japan 10x times better then just a unified Japan or just some painted countries on the island to represent the clans.
No the decision to remove the shogunate system in Japan is a solid bad one.

If you would use the HRE system in place I would not mind, but the way it was done pre-Divine Wind is just not working out.

What do you mean with "the advisor system has been changed"? Because in one of the images it can be seen the three advisors window from EUIII...

I agree with the removal of each of the mentioned systems, but I sure hope that especially the domestic slider system gets a proper replacement. I want to centralize my country, free the serfs, protect my trade, and improve army quality!

I'm sad to see sliders go. The others are solid choices I think.
But seriously sliders were awesome, they let you customize your nation in a way that kept the game fresh for so much longer, and the "policies" of Vicky2 can in no way serve as a proper replacement, since the system is shallow and in certain key areas one or two policies are uniformly better than any other policy. What I would have loved to see were the introduction of sliders (and national ideas) into the victoria-series. Not introduction of laws or policies into EU.

But if you're going to do that please make sure they're not just a linear progression from crappy law X to quasi-modern law Z. Were one set of laws are uniformly better than another set of laws. Make it a real choice of what kind of nation you want to play.

Also I can't help but notice that a couple of the "purged features" were highly advertised Divine Wind features, were you not happy with the expansion?

A lot of things here I wouldn't have expected to see go before announcement, but actually, I think they all make sense. :) Except possibly sliders, I won't be hugely sorry to see anything on that list go.

Also, do I spy some map reworking? ...

This DD is a huge disappointment for me. Getting rid of magistrates, spies is bad enough but removing the Damiyo system means that EU4 will become even more Europe-focused than EU3 was before. It is really a shame that they decided to do so...
And I can't stop thinking about MMtG. I'm sure you had enough of that already, but seeing where EU4 is going so far, it just makes the pain worse and worse.

They just said what are they removing, but we don't know how Japan will look like, maybe they will make something better than Shogunate there.There are many DD's left, it's really to early to make such conclusions about the game.

The more I think about it, the better it is that sliders are getting removed. In the end, there were 2 optimal positions you worked towards either as a conquering land power or as trader/coloniser. More flavour sounds a lot better.
