I could add you as admin on the Victoria II Wiki and you could see what you could do ? I am not a html mogul, I'm only good with some Wiki editing ;) Besides, I do not manage the Mediawiki program myself as this is freely hosted on ShoutWiki.
Ah, might not be possible to do it then.
Have you considered moving to an independently hosted website instead? Hosting doesn't cost that much, and it gives a lot more control over things like ads, but also extensions and such.
Hell, I could probably host it on my server; I've got enough space for at least a few more wikis.

Well I would be open for you to host the Victoria II Wiki if you want to. The Wiki would surely benefit from a more performant Mediawiki than the one we have got and, also, from your know-how. Please let it be named Victoria II Wiki and not Vicky2Wiki as it is already taken...

If you register the url and hit it off, I will strive to export what we have got already on there.
Right, I'll see about buying the victoria2wiki.com domain and setting things up later today or tomorrow.

That is great ! :D
Heh, tried turning off AdBlock on the Victoria 2 wiki; definitely a lot more ads there than on the CKII Wiki and EU4 Wiki. On those I just have a single ad in the sidebar and do what I can to block Flash ads and such (though Google doesn't let me block that entire category outright for some reason).

I have adblock on Safari for my Mac. I'm always a bit annoyed when I look at Victoria II Wiki on my iPhone without adblock...
Heh, I even run AdBlock on my own wikis, but that's because Google doesn't take kindly to people clicking the ads on their own websites. Single unobtrusive sidebar ad is luckily enough to pay for hosting based on what I've earned since I switched to Adsense after realizing Project Wonderful would never let me break even.
Though I do wish Google would just allow me to block rich media ads (Flash and such) outright. They're annoying, fewer people click them, and they pay less per click. So they earn a lot less money, and are a lot more annoying; there's absolutely nothing of benefit for anyone using the wiki, nor even for me.

@Niptium: Right, I'm currently setting a wiki up on v2.ckiiwiki.com. Once we've got everything working properly I can then buy victoria2wiki.com and direct it over there.
Uploading a Mediawiki install right now. After that I just need to make sure everything is configured properly, and then import all the pages from the V2 wiki.

Will this be a page by page copy-paste sort of thing ?
Nah. I've got pretty much everything copied over now. The pages themselves were very simple to import, as MediaWiki has tools built in for just that purpose. The files I had to download individually then upload one by one.
So pretty much everything is now there: http://v2.ckiiwiki.com/Main_Page
The only important thing I haven't been able to import is the user database. I'm not sure if Shoutwiki lets you export that.
However, I've set up my userdatabase so it is shared between the CKII Wiki, the EU4 Wiki, and the V2 Wiki so you'll be able to log in now with the account you made for the EU4 wiki. I'll set you up as an admin momentarily.

May I suggest that Castile/Spain, England/GB, Muscovy/Russia don't have different pages (as with EUIII wiki). They are the same, have the same missions and, at the end of the day, when playing Castile/England/Muscovy the objective is to form Spain/GB/Russia.

So Spain should redirect to Castile and so on (or the other way round).
They're not the same though, as to my knowledge Spain can be formed by Aragon, GB by Scotland, and Russia by any of the Russian nations.
And as Sn3ipen says, the nations do exist at later start dates.

Perhaps we could make it so formable flavour nations and nations that doesn't exist on the start of the game are located in a subcategory, on the same page?
An idea might be to stick them all on a "formable nations" page.

You should add links in the main page, with main categories.

Just pointing out, i am not good at making wiki sites, but if i find some corner i can help with i could do something. But linking is a thing i am not very good at.
I plan to do that once we've got enough pages to make a proper category system.

Great initiative!

I'd be happy to help. As a moderator on the EU3wiki since 2009 I know my way around wikis, and I wrote several tools to parse event scripts and automatically generate all sorts of articles, which should really help getting accurate documentation for EU4 online soon.

Also see the EU3 discussion group here. As you'll see I brought up the issue of an EU4wiki a few months ago, but the group is a bit dead.
Any help is much appreciated :)

Sorry for the late response but I got your message, I'll pass it on to Rafiki, the site owner. It's true that he isn't around here or on paradoxian a lot, but I should be able to reach him through other means.
Thanks! I ended up importing the Paradoxian V2 wiki content into victoria2wiki.com as the content licensing allows for that, but I'd much prefer explicit permission.

Indeed, but only Castille gets the missions to form Spain, only Muscowy the missions to form Russia, only England the missions to form GB, and so on. I think they haven't changed that in EUIV (i.e. Novgorod will not get the missions though it can form Russia but it's more difficult).

At the end of the day, a wiki page on Castille or Muscowy will focus alot on forming Spain and Russia respectively, since it's their destiny (and their missions!), so it makes sense to continue on the same article. I think EUIII wiki handles this pretty well. I don't see any reason why we should move away from this and go for separate pages. Don't change something when it is proven to work well.
The EU3 wiki appears to have separate pages for the formation of countries. See "Forming Spain".

Indeed, but this is only for the requirements and applies for all formable nations. I am not talking about this, but about the country/strategy guide:

http://www.paradoxian.org/eu3wiki/Muscovy_strategy
http://www.paradoxian.org/eu3wiki/Castille_strategy
http://www.paradoxian.org/eu3wiki/England_strategy

The guide to Spain, Russia, GB, etc, should be in the same page with Castille, Muscowy, England, etc. I find that more logical since the latter are a continuation of the former.
Ah, yeah. That I can agree with. Though obviously, the page for the union/formable country should link back to the forming country.

Agreed :) I promise to help when the game cones out
Feel free to help set things up before the game comes out too ;)
The more information we've got up on the wiki when the game releases, the less work is needed to make the wiki great once it does release.
