Paradox is making 2 games using the EUII engine, what they are no one knows, but I personally think one will be a Dark Ages/Crusades like game, since the EU engine will work pretty well with that, with a few tweaks, of course.
Yeah, Crusades ROCKS!! :D

I personally would like to see a game that includes air combat, WW1 and WW2. I'd love to play a game and have a different outcome to one or both of those wars. Play into the twentieth and 21st centuries. I'd like to see the selling of land and things like that. Anyone have any ideas they feel like sharin', feel free! Maybe someone from Paradox will pick up some of these ideas and stick them in the new game, whenever it's to come out.
No thankyou, future sucks. The period from year 1000 ad to 1800 ad is the fun period. If you want air combat, buy Empire Earth!

Wouldn't the simplest answer for what the two new EU-engine games will cover be the Early Middle Ages (Dark Ages) and the Later Middle Ages? After all, this would cover the period between EU and the upcoming Legion (although it isn't the same type of game).

Once again people have confused what I think is a commercially viable option with what I want.

I think that moving into a different market is a commercially good option for the EU engine. Fantasy or SF are obvious areas. I may or may not buy this

I personally want Dark Ages Universalis. With all the tribes moving around europe and invading one another it seems a good time to play.
That I would definately buy!

Sci-fi. If Paradox took the same approach they did to European history they could produce a ground breacking game. The genre is crying out for a top quality strategy game and Paradox are definiatly the people to do it. On the other hand a game just focusing on the HRE could have a lot of potiential.

my humble opinion

i think it would work if they went for a sufficently low level of detail. Keep things at the EU level and it could work.

I can't see much evidence for that. History DOES sell. There are tons of fantasy and scifi games, but few grand strategic scale historical games. And this area happens to be Paradox's strength.

I don't need just another scifi game. I picked up Europa Universalis precisely BECAUSE it's in a historical. I wouldn't have touched it otherwise.

Among the non-historical alternative, honestly only a Middle Earth setting would appeal to me (covering not only the War of the Rings). However, licence issues really put an end to this, since Sierra (the owner of the rights, I believe) will surely not allow Paradox to develop such a game. So please no fantasy or scifi!

I want historical settings. If Paradox insists on doing a non-historical game, then let them do Mutant Chronicles... Hopefully, they'll see that historical games are just far more exciting and rewarding.

Very well spoken! The same has always been in my heart.

I would like to see a game where the focus is on people and politics first, and war and territory second. For an idea of what I mean, the main game screen would show who holds positions of power in the royal court, rather than a map. You might start as a minor noble in 1419; the goal would be to gain money, power and honour for your direct mail line, through marriages, making the right friends, and pleasing (or becoming) the king. Of course fighting wars would play a part, but the goal would be to put the right people on the right thrones.

Are you thinking opf a sorta EU RPG? Could have potiential, the other is a multi user RPG set in the EU world sort of like the RPG forum but with a more solid basis for the rules and where you play a noble rather than the KIng. It is an idea, but would it sell???? I am sure that is Paradox's first thought when it comes to a game idea.

I'm not sure what you mean by an RPG. It's just that in EU history is about which state owns which province; I would be interested in seeing a game in which history is about the relationships between people. It needn't be any less abstracted than EU, just in a different way.

Ok I see, but considering the weakness of the EU AI, could the AI be up to the job. The kind of interaction that we would need to simulate to make a game of this type interesting and replayable would require a lot of choices for the AI. Could it be up to the job??

The AI in EU is weak, but capable of getting the job done, just about. Probably you can either make the game realistic and program a sizzlingly hot AI, or make it abstract and formalized so that you can get along with an AI that does enough maths to find the optimal behaviour. The second choice can still give a good game if you can keep the flavour of what the game is about, despite the abstraction.

I think for the type of game you are proposing the AI would need to be sizzlingly hot. To get a reasonably realistic interation between the player and other families in the court would require a damn good AI. If not I think the game would not be as good as EU. The AI needs to consider not just what you are doing know but whta you have done in the past. EU simulates this using Bad Boy, but to be able simulate family fueds you would need a much more complicated model.
