Sorry if I got your hopes up. This isn't to say that I've heard something about a new game. Rather I wanted to hear some of the ideas that people might have had for a new one. I personally would like to see a game that includes air combat, WW1 and WW2. I'd love to play a game and have a different outcome to one or both of those wars. Play into the twentieth and 21st centuries. I'd like to see the selling of land and things like that. Anyone have any ideas they feel like sharin', feel free! Maybe someone from Paradox will pick up some of these ideas and stick them in the new game, whenever it's to come out.

There are no plans for EUIII. Sorry to bust your bubble.:p ;)

Paradox is making 2 games using the EUII engine, what they are no one knows, but I personally think one will be a Dark Ages/Crusades like game, since the EU engine will work pretty well with that, with a few tweaks, of course.

The request for World War II themed wargames has been heared many times on this forum.

The answer everytime is of course that the EU engine is not suited to simulating anything like World War II.

But consider why such requests come so many times.

I suspect the biggest culprit is the popularity of World War II films like Saving Private Ryan, Thin Red Line and Enemy at the Gates. These films are historical, for whom "history" becomes what he has seen so vividly on big screen. On the same vein, we have many recent action games which has been set in World War II with action having an uncanny resemblance to that of the movies themselves. These games, Medal of Honor and Return to Castle Wolfenstein, have been very successful on the market.

And that is the reson why the strong sells of EU is seen as a surprise by most of the gaming press. No one can quite justify the popularity of the game given the lack of presence its source material suffers in popular culture.

If anything, this proves that despite huge publishing houses beginning to look like movie studios each day, gamers are still a bunch whose tastes defy the tastes of popular culture.

This tendency of the publishing houses, by the way, can also be seen in the unnumberable clones the industry spews out each day: I am talking about mainly "RTS" games that recycle a formula endlessly, but there are other examples.

I think the game engine could handle WW1, but not WW2. I think an 1815 (congress of Vienna) to 1920 (slightly after Versailles) would be a good scenario if there was a signifigant upgrade in the diplomacy department, but a little short for a whole game. A middle ages game would be a lot better for game length. I would start it at 1066 (can Harold turn back William? or will the Danes win?) and end it at 1453 (capture of Canstantinople, invention of Printing press, end of the hundred-years war, and one or two other things like the Portugese rounding the Cape of Good Hope)

Not everything in the Gaming Industry is bad. Ascaron, Antikgames, Golemlabs...and of course Paradox produce promising titles that require more than the typical RTS or egoshooter.

As for the time span of Europa Universalis, I can't say it is at all obscure. Covers much of our history. And quite a number of figures and films are set in this period, but it of course is less a "brand" as WWII. After all, it's a very diverse period.

Personally, I would prefer a WWI game to one of the Second World War (althoug that'd be great as well). Of course, the EU engine is woefully unfitting for 20th century warfare, politics and economics. Also, continued fronts as seen in both wars defy really realtime simulation. Also, the added complexity really calls for a turn-based game.

So, a big question-mark remains what the second EU engine title might be. Crusades seems a given. A real Nappy game might work. I could even imagine something set in the 19th century, that is Mighty Empires. Of course the latter necessitates considerable redesign, not simply front end solution.

Do you something we don't??? Cause I could see the EU engine doing rather well in a future setting. With a few modifications that is.

Seems to make sence is all. History doesn't sell as well as Fantasy/Sci-Fi.

Ok, found me out. You see I was thinkning, if you replaced the word province with the word planet, then you could get the EU engine doing a fair job of simulating things up in Space.

I don't care what Paradox is going to do next with the EU engine. Whatever it is I'll buy it but I would like to be able to use end games from one to the next one in the time. That would be really great although normally all games finish with the conquest of the world.

I can't see much evidence for that. History DOES sell. There are tons of fantasy and scifi games, but few grand strategic scale historical games. And this area happens to be Paradox's strength.

I don't need just another scifi game. I picked up Europa Universalis precisely BECAUSE it's in a historical. I wouldn't have touched it otherwise.

Among the non-historical alternative, honestly only a Middle Earth setting would appeal to me (covering not only the War of the Rings). However, licence issues really put an end to this, since Sierra (the owner of the rights, I believe) will surely not allow Paradox to develop such a game. So please no fantasy or scifi!

I want historical settings. If Paradox insists on doing a non-historical game, then let them do Mutant Chronicles... Hopefully, they'll see that historical games are just far more exciting and rewarding.

They're developing a new concept for the Svea Rike series, according to one of the Mod's on the SR-forum.

But Patric called Carolus who said it was a new Svea Rike that he was delerious. Now, xure, he could have referred to Carolus's behaviour in general but why bring it up at such a time ? ;)

Well, rumours. :)

I heard rumours about it(they seemed kinda verified) and posted. :)

They are asking for advice on what the community wants in SR4. :)
