EP loaded fine with out a crash as CRI is not one of the countries at the beginning. If I understand correctly it is given independence or revolts later. I did not play long enough to see if it causes a crash later on. I just happened to notice the problem while looking over the leader files you mentioned had been updated.

Ya it usually does. Well that's good to know. 1.7.2 will have this fixed. I'll probably release it within a couple of weeks. I still have a half dozen mid and late game Otto events slated to be made. Plus I'm hoping for some feedback on the Ottos so I can finetune them more. Hopefully 1.7.2 can have all this within a couple weeks.

When I try installing 1.71, I get an error message:

A required dll file, TSAD.DLL, was not found. So nothing happens.

Does anyone know what I can do about this?

Figured it out. TSAD.DLL is spyware, but in removing it, you mess up certain files, in this case, Winrar. I just reinstalled winrar, & it worked fine. Thought I'd post this, as it might help someone else.

I've just started looking at your EP mod, and it looks very interesting. Are you familiar with an old mod called "Greatest AI," by Daywalker? EP reminds me strongly of that mod... it too started with an attempt to improve Portugal's perfomance, and soon expanded into a comprehensive AI performance package. It managed some impressive results, relying heavily on event-driven "subsidies" (manufacturies, troops, and gold) for the AI majors, until it was unfortunately abandonded back in 2003.

I've played it and recommend it from time to time. It's a great mod. Daywalker did alot of groundbreaking work in it as far as modding goes.

EP takes AI performance to the next level though. EP has much stronger AIs. I designed EP to be enjoyable and challenging for more than just the first 150 years, as is sadly the case with most versions. Try playing a major power for the full 400. Then you'll see what EP is really all about.

Daywalker's mod is good for vanilla gameplay. I see little point in playing a vanilla game with out it, unless of course you're just trying to cause some obscene result form exploits or poor AI performance.

My naming EP "Europa Portugalis" is not cause I only cared about Portugal originally. In fact Spain has more work done on it in EP than Portugal does. "Europa Portugalis" is a joke name. I'm a big Portuguese Empire history fan and that's part of why I named it that. But its real origin is a joke between a friend of mine and myself where we talked about all the ridiculous exploits Portugal can do in the vanilla version and my friend said they might as well just call it "Europa Portugalis." So I gave it that name for kicks.

I agree with that, believe it or not. I play so little EU2 that I try to make the most out of the time I can put into it, and for me that means really pushing the limits in terms of weird things I can get up to. I'm currently playing a game as a Sunni China in the AoI mod, for example (start as Mongolia, convert Hebei, release China and load up as them) ;)

I would like to know: does the AI build more consistent empires? That is, do I have to see Austrian provinces in Siberia again or is that partially or definetely fixed?

Yes.

The important AIs get big. They develope along historical lines more consistently than any other mod. They will most likely out tech you. They can even compete with your merchants. And they will fight wars better too. They colonize very historically, much more so than any other mod.
