A gypsy caravan arrives at the court of Felipe IV's in Madrid and inside it is stacked to the roof with fine gold, silver, diamonds, jade, rubies and other fine gems, pottery, spices, wine, silk and two ferocious Bengal tigers. The old man at the helm explains to the guards that these are gifts from the Persian Shah to the great king of Spain. As he enters the outer yard he is confronted by Olibares and he hands him a small envelope and says "My master understands who controls the true power of Spain".
Inside it reads "I send my respect to you, your king and to your Spanish Empire, however I hear with disgust that you are considering aiding the Evil Axis of Russia and the Ottoman Turks. I have no dispute with you and find your reasoning hard to bear, you, yourself have noted the carnage they inflicted on your brothers and sisters in Poland and the atrocities of mass torture the Turks committed in Hungary. I do not send you a threat, but respect and I urge you not to take unwarranted action against me. As for the Evil Axis and any who may support them in war, I send battle hardened troops to greet them at every turn and a promise that no quarter will be given or expected.

the most friendly and most understanding, Great Shah

I can't wait for Saturday!

Will it run faster since we have one less dial-up person now?

need players?

Hi,
Just wondering if you required regular players? Live in Brisbane and knock off work by 8pm so play schedule is not a problem. I have no mp EU2 experience though so understand if you only require mp experienced people.

Sure Velo, you are most welcome to play.
EU2 MP experience is not a necessity for this game - we have a mix of experienced players and inexperienced players at MP, but the important things to me are people who are going to be reliable - i.e. turn up on time, and if you can't make a session, let us know in advance. Another important thing is that you need to 'play longterm' - i.e. don't expand quickly by racking up inflation and ruining your research and economy.
I think the start time works out to 20:30 Brisbane time (the next session is tonight)... hope to see you there. If you can play France it would be wonderful (France has had a rocky history but it needs a regular player).
I missed your PM I'm afraid... I neglected my inbox and it was full (had a bunch of old messages there from ages ago I hadn't deleted).

I'll definitely need a sub for tonight, and possibly tomorrow night.

I have a Christmas party.

Yeah, even one dial up person slows everything else down. I personally hate to not include fun players, but it really is a case where I am definitely reluctant to allow any 56k users into a new game beacuse it will slow down and render less stable/fun the game for everyone else.

Twoflower can't make it either this weekend.

We might (although I hate to do this) postpone this until next weekend, when everyone should be able to play. I'm reluctant to play without the regular Spain and Austria.

You've got to go ahead! There's no sign that twoflower will be able to fix his connection any time soon, and I'll be in Adelaide next weekend.

Oh, and Artemis, have you edited the save so that Turenne comes along in 1630? I suspect that France needs all the help it can get.

Just make sure it's someone decent. I guess I should PM instructions when I find one.

Okay, we'll go ahead... if we have the players to do so.
I don't enjoy finding subs for the most important and powerful countries in the game, though :(

Jeez this sucks.

I have line noise problems occasionally but not very often. And after you went on without me my connection seemed to stabalize. Oh well things happen this way.

I wonder if there may have been a problem with vnet as well. I dunno. :(

I'm going to have to quit this game I'm afraid.

Its casuing trouble at home with my partner. It's come to the point where i'm spending too much time playing games and not enough time with the person i love.

Also my computer is a spastic pile of dor turd and I don't know how to fix it nor can i afford a technician to fix it.

It was fun while it lasted but I gotta say goodbye. :(

Can we use the autosave next time (or better load the autosave and resave it), as I had the Civil War event pop up whilst Artemis was saving it, and I'm worried I won't have it again when we restart. We only miss a few days anyway.

How did it go tonight?

Pretty well in the end. It was a stop-and-start affair at first, but everybody was helpful and patient, and we had subs for all our majors except for Holland.
I didn't pay much attention to the colonial side of things... as Ottomans I was concentrating more on Persia (they're freaking big in case nobody noticed). There was a *massive* war between Persia and the Ottomans that saw provinces see sawing and tens of thousands of troops dying... in the end the weight of Persian numbers was more than I could stomach. Persia got to a position where they were stabhitting me, and I gave in as my economy was starting to suffer (where are those exceptional years when you need them :( )

Toward the end, there was some tension between Austria and Sweden... this has something to do with the fact that all of Northern Germany is split between Sweden, Austria, and a couple of provinces with Brandenburg :D

Spain and Portugal continued to prosper... they're starting to dominate trade around the world, although I expect Holland may be able to compete in the not too distant future.

A note - due to the specific terms of a peace agreement between Sweden and Austria, Vorpommern has been edited from Austrian ownership to Brandenburg.

Oh by the way, I have to thank whoever subbed Spain- I gather they did a good job. Was it Drake? Well, thanks anyway. I had to leave before someone confirmed as a sub, so I didn't end up sending a strategy. :(

Spain and Portugal continued to prosper... they're starting to dominate trade around the world, although I expect Holland may be able to compete in the not too distant future.

Starting? Starting? Continuing! I had something like 30% of my income from trade when we wuit last time.

I didn't pay much attention to the colonial side of things... as Ottomans I was concentrating more on Persia (they're freaking big in case nobody noticed).

Bummer- Yes, Persia is big. What Provinces were lost?

I played sub for sweden and I must say it was quite hectic aperantly i broke a few treaties ;) (like letting danzig stay polish).

Unfortunaly I lost the austrian war and I agreed to let brandenburg have vorpommern. This in turn angered my ally france who I forgott to tell that I asked for peace (my bad).

I played a very diplomatical game and in the end I had secured danzig for the swedish crown and also reached an agreement about buying the baltic provinces from russia.

The late part of the game were used to squash rebelions in grönland and reparing my relations with france.

The battles were furious, my peasents breaking out in revolt were cut to shreads, my scouting army burned small turkish settlements to the ground in the horn of Africa. Murad IV fought hard when others turned and fled, and smashed several of my huge armies, a grudging respect was formed.
Meanwhile China, whoa me, misguided China (somehow the leader of my alliance) accepted peace with Russia with a paltry Ust Urt to show for my efforts, though the Russians had already regained the steppe (due to me having to send reinforcements to fight the Ottomans). However this proved a blessing as even more forces in the north were freed up for marching on the hated Turks.
In the end (i estimate at least 200-300k) mens lives were exchanged for Mekkah, Socotra and the crowning glory of Armenia. The local Turkish inhabitants were this time sliced and diced and fed to my olive trees, they will taste very good next season.
More foul rumours of retributions sounded from the far off lands of Europe....but also whispers of support and awe.
The Great Shah foresees great battles ahead and so prepares diligently mighty defences of flesh and blood and also that of bricks and mortor.

The most wise one, Great Shah
