Agressors? Spain, Austria Portugal and Genoa merely intervened on the side of the Catholic factions, and obtained a verbal agreement from Henry IV to convert to Catholicism, whilst ceding Mantua to Austria and freeing Savoie. Admittedly he did so while under the custody, after having his fleeing troops ridden down by 16 thousand cavalry of the duque de Alba, but a promise is a promise.
But the king of Spain is not vicious, and will gladly send funds to establish missions once the worship of the true faith is restored in France.
Paris is well worth a mass, don't you think?

Because I was trying to role play. Felipe II will not stand idly by while the fair land of France is ruled by heretics.
I would hate to have to send Farnese back to Paris if the French king does not keep his word.
In reality, Felipe II did send troops under Farnese south from the Netherlands to try and help the pro-jesuit faction led by the Guise. Although unable to prevent the coronation of Henri of Navarre, Henri later converted to Catholicism in order to prevent his death at the hands of a Paris mob.

Whoops, I was wrong. Portugal appears to be number 2. England, the OE and France are all much the same, at ~80d.
England appears to have converted all their provinces and built up a large colonial empire, but not invested much in trade or infra.

Well Red managed to pull it off spectacularly well in DoN2, so there must be some merit to it.

Bah, it will probably be alright. Even a massive armada is unlikely to get past Drake (6/5/5) with wind advantage. Especially with the ridiculos Medina Sidona (2/1/1).

My grand strategy is to beat up the AI on all fronts while avoiding any of you guys. Build up Siberia strongly and build a massive army.
Then in 1790 or so launch a major atatck into Europe with maybe 2million troops. Along with an ally.

My dastardly plan will, of course, be to isolate the Netherlands and force annex them.

It surely wasn't my main goal. Austria's goal and reason for this war was to get what it had been promised in the last peace, i.e. Mantua, and free the imperial country of Savoy. Of course, the Austrian Hapsburg branch supports its Spanish relatives in promoting Catholicism, but I certainly would not consider it Austria's "main goal"Originally posted by Hive
