1. Can I become a vassal of another country? How?
2. Can I become a PU of another country? How?
3. Can I become a protectorate of another country? How?
4. Can I become a colonial nation of another country? How?

I want to tag switch to USA.

1) yes, either offer in a peace deal or accept a diplomatic offer (not sure ai will bother to send though)
2) yes, random chance on ruler death without heir, possibility of throne claim plus war but that's remote outside mp
3) yes, see 1
4) no

A stupid question maybe to some of you, but I am not too keen on what Trade Power means or how it works. Will Trade Buildings in provinces held by my Trade Companies raise the Trade Power percentage held by those companies, or is it useless to build them?

Thank you.

Yes, trade buildings and docks affect the provincial trade power, which helps your trade companies reach the extra merchant level (also the production boost for other provinces in the node). They also assist you in every node (except your capital/trade port which is home by default) towards making it a "home" node so OE penalties, foreign trade modifiers, etc. don't apply.

Light ships and sending a merchant actually have a negative impact on the production bonus calculation for trade companies as they are counted as part of the trade power in the node but not attributed to your trade company. They have no impact on the percentage for extra merchant calculation though.

So this question have probably been asked a thousand times but i can't be bothered to flip through 500+ pages to find the answer, sorry about that - anyway here we go:

As Sweden (protestant) I am allied to France (Catholic) who are defender of faith.

Earlier I attacked Poland (Catholic) and France then joined war on Polish side even though not allied (defender of faith, I know), and i luckily got out of the war not completely crushed. So here is my question, France joined another war as Defender of Faith and dragged me along against the Ottomans, can i now then attack a Catholic country without France attacking me, they can't be at war with me at the same time as in war with me, or how does this work? (Sorry that came out a lot more complicated and stupidly written than anticipated)

Correct, if you are allied in a war at the time you declare war they will not get a dotf call even if peace happens the next day. However, if they are allies of the target they can still get called in against you if one/both of you leave that war or it ends.

Do provinces owned by Colonial Nations count towards those needed for the "Pile of Gold" achievement? This'll change whether I take 4 provinces from the Aztecs or only 3.

No. Getting that achievement is mostly about taking African provinces. Mali has 2 gold producing provinces, Ashanti 1 and Kilwa (after eating everything else) will have 5. So that's 8 of them in the bag already. You will usually get 1-2 more from colonies too, so that gets you all you need in African alone.

I've just started eating up pieces of the British Isles as Hansa, and I was wondering what might happen once I'm done. Great Britain has several colonial nations, and since I have no overseas territories I haven't really bothered fighting them so far. However, if/when I finally fully annex / vassalize Great Britain, what will happen to their colonies? Will they become independent nations?

Also, this assumes that the colonies are not counted towards the full annexation / vassalization WS cost, i.e. that they too have to be broken before Britain can be destroyed.

If you fully annex GB then their Colonial Nations will become your subjects. They do, however, affect the war score so you will need to almost fully occupy GB (including colonies but not including Colonial Nations) in order to get the war score to seize large portions of territory and, of course, you will need to fully occupy for the final annexation but, again, this does not require the Colonial Nations to be occupied.

Super! That means I won't have to make that much of an effort to get into the colonial action (since I was intending on taking all of Britain anyhow) :)

Oh, neat. I might go for that in my current Ottomans game, then, since I've already taken Samara and the gold province in the Caucasus...

I've read about an option in the defines.lua that allows you to change whether vassals can fabricate claims or not.
However, what I don't know is, can you wage war for these province then as well? Would be cool if my Lithuania PU could fabricate claims on Crimea provinces or so and I could declare war for them.

If I may add to the question, does changing defines.lua affect your eligibility on playing ironman? I usually play vassal game, it'd be awesome if my vassals can make their own claim :p

Random question: if you pass the final HRE reform (and absorb all of the HRE), do your other, non-HRE vassals get a negative opinion modifier against you? And surely it isn't -30 for each HRE member absorbed, right?

They stay British CNs, becoming your CNs once you diplo-annex Britain. They do not influence annexation cost.

Wait, you sure about that? have read elsewhere that if you force-vassalize a country, their CNs become independent.
