I have a 50 army stack, about 35 10 5 against a similar french stack, maybe a few more cavalry and i'm defending in the alps yet when france attacks, My morale drops to about 50%. What am i missing out on here. I'm pretty sure i should be winning the battles easily.

The French have higher base morale than you do. Until the fight starts your morale bar shows as full because it is at its maximum level. When the fighting starts both morale bar maximum is set to the level of the better army, making it look like the worse army's morale plummeted. It didn't, it just starts at a lower value.

i.e. pre-fight you are at 3.0/3.0 morale-bar looks full, you start a fight with a French army that is 5.0/5.0 and your bar will change to 60% full as you are now 3.0/5.0

how do i diplomatically annex someone?

diplomacy action in the "dynastic actions" category, it requires they be your vassal, be at peace, and have 190 or better relations with you to start the process.

Can the player call allies into a war someone else started? I haven't been able to find this option so I assumed you couldn't, but I just declared war on Austria, who was allied to GB, and GB called in Portugal and Spain, who were not allied to Austria. Can you only do that if you are the war leader? What determines if you become the war leader in this game? Whenever my tiny one province allies call me into their wars they usually stay the leader so it's obviously not pure military strength.

If you are called in on the defending side of a war you may take leadership in the war, which allows you to call in your allies. If you are called in by the attacker or are not made war leader then only your vassals will be called into the war. The attacking war leader will not change, only the defending side can change leader. Leadership is determined by some combination of strength, prestige, and the devs know what else and is sometimes difficult to figure out ahead of time.

If you aren't taking over as leader when called by an OPM it is probably because they started the war.

As Portugal, I attacked Morocco with Tangiers as the wargoal. Castille was my ally and got to the province first, now they are the ones that captured it, and I can't ask for it in a peace offer. Is there anything I can do?

Let Morocco or rebels take control of the province then recapture it or hope Castille makes a separate peace without taking the province in the peace deal.

Ahh! That makes sense and explains my experiences. Thanks!

This has surely been answered already but I've played abpout 200 years in Ironman mode and haven't seen a single achievement (and yes I've won wars and made royal marriages). I'm going to assume this isn't normal...

You're not the only one, but it seems to only affect a few people. There's a bug post somewhere, but no dev has acknowledged it.

Are you sure you aren't getting the achievements? I know that it doesn't always display properly in game when you get one. Look in the Steam client and see if you're missing the achievements. Might also be some minor requirement you missed? Tough to say without knowing what achievement it is.

Positive. Steam client is the first place I looked, and you'd think I would have made a royal marriage or won a war or something in 150 years.

So, questions:

1) How can I extend my naval support (or whatever it's called) range? Ie where my ships can be stationed without taking attrition... is it simply a matter of technology? If I send light ships to boost a trade node, where they are taking attrition, will they eventually dissolve or do they automatically return to port to repair at times?

2) On how best to manage ones rate of expansion - is there a badboy counter in EU4? Or is it just the aggressive expansion opinion modifier? I feel I've been really too cautious in my first game so far (as Timurid-Mughal), and didn't conquer much of India before my claims expired. Would it have been safe enough to have gone as fast as I could eliminate overextension?

Hi, I'm new to eu4, but I've played many days worth of ck2. I love c,2, but with eu4 I feel like I've put my big boy pants on and entered into a strange new world. If anyone could possibly answer some questions for me, I'd appreciate it.

I'm playing as Castile--taken the Muslim lands on the Iberian peninsula, wanted to send missionaries but was told my chance for successful conversion was 0%. How is it possible to convert Grenada et al?

To form Spain militarily, it says I need Valencia. I tried to get a claim on it, ck2 style, but the claim screen would not show Valencia on it, but rather only the other Argonese territories. How am I supposed to get my hands on Valencia?

Finally, after many lost ships at sea, I made it to the Bengal trade node. I was happy, thinking that this would open up the Eastern Trade Route (or what ever its called.). It didn't. What am I supposed to do? How do I get an active trade node in that part of the world?

Thank you for your time.

The mouseover tooltip will tell you all the factors going into the conversion chance. One of them is tax value, so you might only be able to convert the smallest provinces. Otherwise you'll need either an event that temporarily increases missionary chance, and advisor that does, or the idea(s) that does.

To form Spain militarily, it says I need Valencia. I tried to get a claim on it, ck2 style, but the claim screen would not show Valencia on it, but rather only the other Argonese territories. How am I supposed to get my hands on Valencia?

You can fabricate a claim "diplomatically" but only on a land that is adjacent to one of your cores, and isn't the enemy's capital (exception: 1 province minors). But as long as you can capture the province in a war you can make it a core after the fact.

Finally, after many lost ships at sea, I made it to the Bengal trade node. I was happy, thinking that this would open up the Eastern Trade Route (or what ever its called.). It didn't. What am I supposed to do? How do I get an active trade node in that part of the world?

Thank you for your time.

Send light ships to the node to increase your trade power there, I imagine. I haven't looked into trade much yet - I'll let someone else provide a better answer.

Thank you for your answers.

Valencia is the Argonese capital, so I can't claim it. I guess I have to declare war with casus belli claim on another one of their territories, and then seize Valencia as well? Unless I'm missing something, that's my only option.

Thanks again.

What can prevent cores from being made other than sieges? The one I have is stuck at 92% and keeps increasing the projected time by one day every day, so I imagine there has to be something wrong, but there's no siege on the province.

Hey guys this is my 1st europa game so it could be a noobie question.
I was playing as Venice and put a claim on Mantua and attacked but Austria got involved Mantua's only allies were Genoa, they were not allied or married into there family with Austria and brought there allies along also. So did I miss something what caused Austria to join Mantua?

There should be a Holy Roman Empire tab you can find and click on, green provinces are part of the empire. You, as venice, are not part of the empire. Mantua is part of the empire. Attacking a state in the empire when you are not in the empire calls the emperor on the defenders side. Austria is typically the emperor in the holy roman empire. The emperor will also be callled if you are in the empire and attack someone without a reason.

Playing Ironman as Qara Koyunlu. Had a very successful game, formed Persia, and got Muslim Units. However, I'm stuck as a Theocracy, and Nomad tech group. Anything I can do about this? In the later start where Persia exists they have a monarchy and Muslim tech so I seem doomed just for starting early.

So, questions:

1) How can I extend my naval support (or whatever it's called) range? Ie where my ships can be stationed without taking attrition... is it simply a matter of technology?

Take over provinces closer to where you want to go, or get fleet basing rights from whoever owns them. I have to get fleet basing rights from Algiers every time I go to war with Spain in my GB game, because without it I take horrific attrition while trying to blockade eastern Spain and southern France.

If I send light ships to boost a trade node, where they are taking attrition, will they eventually dissolve or do they automatically return to port to repair at times?

They will go back to port when any one of them sinks below 90%? (I think, might be 80% though) and repair up and then resume their mission. While in port they will not be boosting your trade power. If they get attacked and lose they will retreat to port and heal up, then resume boosting trade.

No badboy, just aggressive expansion and if you go over 100% overextension you start to get horrifically raped by rebel stacks that will pop up that are like twice what your max manpower is.

Being at war with a country having a core on that province stops the coring process until the war ends.

So do stability and technologies ever go up on their own, like in EU3, or do you always (except for events maybe) have to boost and buy the tech level?
You have to use power points to increase stability and tech levels. Unless you get an event that increases stability. Its possible there might be events that increase tech levels but if they exist I haven't seen them.

I'm losing diplomatic power because I have "15/6 diplomatic relations". What the hell does this mean? And is there anyway I can get a quick injection of diplo power so I can end my damn war before WE cripples me?

It means you have too many relations with other nations. Your max is 6 and you have 15. Every one over will cost you X amount of diplo power each month.

If I vassalize a country that does not share my religion (Wallachia as the Ottomans), can I then annex them later?

Not that I can tell. I haven't been able to. Maybe there is a patch for this.

Ok how then?

1. No. Unless you're at war in which case the war screen tells you what the enemy alliance has.

That isn't true, you can check the ledgers at any time to see current standing army, and the manpower that they have to call upon.

Is there a quick and speedy way to kill Henry VI?

Throw him into losing battles where your army gets killed entirely. He will die along with that army.

Quick Questions:

If you integrate a vassal or PU do you:

a.) get core on their provinces? (i assume yes)

b.) keep the buildings/province improvements? (perhaps different if diplo integration or on monach death?)

Thanks

You get the cores, you don't get the buildings.

What are the requirements for the Ottomans to get the mission "Annex Egypt" I had in the demo? In the full game I only get the silly missions "fabricate a claim on province X" (You don't say? How else am I supposed to capture those mamluks, without the proper event/mission?).

The missions are somewhat random. I say somewhat because it seems to depend on the situation your nation is currently in. If you move next to someone by conquering other nations you might get a mission to conquer provinces in that nation.
