Was rather afraid of that, as the British navy is far superior to my own, so I'm not exactly confident I'd be able to launch a successful invasion of the British isles, or do enough damage to their navy.

Its times like this where i think i should have been more gamey when winning the 100 years war and broke apart England when they surrendered.

Well, if they have that many light ships, do they also severely outnumber you with large ships? Light ships are terrible in combat. I wonder, with that many, if they might have a manageable number of large ships if you focused on a fleet of large ships. Also, are their Light Ships in a fleet by themselves? If so, you could get in position, declare war, and wipe out all their light ships before the heavies come to the rescue, and then just try to roll over and play dead/hold them off/etc.?

EDIT: Though, I suppose they could just end up doing a shattered retreat..

How many Aggressive Expansion points can I rack up before I get 'dishonourable scum' wars called against me?

Wanna see how many provinces I can swipe off of Austria from this war I got called into that I'd otherwise have no reason to care about...

I might worry more about overextension. If it gets near, and particularly over, 100% you will be getting almost non-stop revolts.

I haven't really been involved in many naval conflicts, so i'm not too sure if my quality is enough to outdo their quantity.

When I annex a vassal, will I get it's provinces as core provinces?
Yes, but the core is awarded immediately after you gain ownership of the provinces, so you won't get any buildings in them.

I'm not worried too much about that right now, 2 of the provinces I want are my cores anyway so no overextension, but I do still get AE if I take them which doesn't make much sense to me tbh. Your point has brought me on to another question though:

How is overextension calculated? I notice different counties cause different amounts, and as far as I can tell it doesn't look like it's tied to distance...

Could someone tell me what that "-94% trade power in this node" is coming from? I also get a similar -20 to 40% trade power reduction in ragusa node. The only one I have +% trade power is in Constantinople node. I had been able to transport 3.4 value forward out of Alexandria until recently when it dropped by a ton and I guess I didn't have this value in Alexandria before. Now I can only transport 0.3 or so. I've been using light ships to power through the loss that I had in the ragusa node but this -94% is a bit much.

I'm playing a game as Castille and selected the mission to make France my ally, figuring that with France as my ally we could split the world between ourselves. However, France views me as a rival, and won't accept my alliance requests. Their opinion of me is actually +73 (mostly improve relations mission for diplomat), but my opinion of THEM is -47. The funny thing is, they view me as a rival with their +73 and I view them as a friend with my -47.

How can I get France to stop viewing me as a rival, and get an alliance?

I don't think OE will do anything bad until you reach(and/or exceed?) 100%

The amount of OE you get from a province is based on its Base Tax. 4% OE per 1 base tax I believe.
Only places without your cores will count against you. Though your colonies don't if they have your primary culture.

Go to the Stability and Expansion(crown and rebel flag) tab, mouse over Overextension for the tooltip

Hey guys,

Just checking in case any of you can shed light to this.

As Castille I am offering fleet basing rights to my ally and friend, Burgundy, in MP.
This is order for him to colonize further into Africa as I head for the new World.

The fleet basing rights do extend the colonization rights but as he tries to send a colonist to the nearby province of Rio de Oro on the Mauritanian Coast, it says it is not possible because it: "cannot be reached via any ports connected to the capital". He holds Antwerpen and according what I can figure, has sea access to the canaries. The year is not yet 1500. Also, he is within colony range.

What's up?

Well, in my -extremely- limited experience, as long as you have a relatively decent large-ship advantage, throwing light ships into the mix doesn't usually make much of a difference. But yeah, 60 vs. 12 is a lot. Might be worth an experiment though. If you're not playing ironman, you could save scum to experiment.

Have you looked on that node's actual trade screen? I think there might be a more detailed breakdown of your trade power modifiers.

Yeah, i think you're right about taxes establishing OE.

Having OE less than 100% will definitely still give you some negative effects including, iirc (I'm at work), to national revolt. But yeah, the really bad stuff happens when you go past 100%. Earlier in my current game I ended up selling a province to another country that I had just annexed because I was getting incessant rebellions. I had dallied on getting core on an earlier annexation, and then got greedy and annexed two more in the current war, putting me over the top. It was not pretty.

It was my overextension thanks. The Ragusa node was -75% for 'collection node not in capital' (plus positive modifiers) and the Alexandria node was -105% for overextension.

Alternatively, if he has a massive trade power advantage in the Americas he could collect there instead of forwarding that trade value into Bordeaux for the English to leech. Then build up his power in Bordeaux by building trade buildings, increasing mercantilism, and building light ships of his own. The more total power in a node, the less influential any one component in that node is.

Do techs ever level up on their own from (like in EU3 with the sliders and what not) or do I HAVE to spend points on them?

You have to spend points on them. The cost will decrease over time as you get further behind your neighbors though.

As Portugal, I attacked Morocco with Tangiers as the wargoal. Castille was my ally and got to the province first, now they are the ones that captured it, and I can't ask for it in a peace offer. Is there anything I can do?

I have a 50 army stack, about 35 10 5 against a similar french stack, maybe a few more cavalry and i'm defending in the alps yet when france attacks, My morale drops to about 50%. What am i missing out on here. I'm pretty sure i should be winning the battles easily.

Can the player call allies into a war someone else started? I haven't been able to find this option so I assumed you couldn't, but I just declared war on Austria, who was allied to GB, and GB called in Portugal and Spain, who were not allied to Austria. Can you only do that if you are the war leader? What determines if you become the war leader in this game? Whenever my tiny one province allies call me into their wars they usually stay the leader so it's obviously not pure military strength.
