Also heavies are much faster and their speed increases with technology, so they can be used to intercept enemy while your galleys are catching up (similar trick could be pulled off with light ships, but only when enemy fleet is very weak, and it still can put you into trouble).

If I block off the land route of Ottomans into Africa (Suez, the province above it, Rosetta, Alexandria) and own the entire East Egyptian coastline, will Ottomans still be able to grab land in the Nile Delta? They have the North African provinces west of Alexandria but that doesn't give them a border.

Wondering because they've gone to war with Mamluks and the target is one of those Nile Delta provinces, would make my Kongo run a lot harder.

It's possible to make cores in any coastal provinces within colonial range, so most likely they will be able to do that.

Might not have been super clear, here's a screenshot. If I understand you correctly, they won't be able to core the provinces in the Nile Delta. But will they be able to take them if they can't core them?

No, they will be able to core provinces in Delta because they are accessible by sea and lie within their colonial range. And, because they can core them, they can take them in war too (if they win).

But they're not accessible by sea, are they? Because I'm between Ottomans and those provinces. Or am I missing something?

You are missing, like whole Mediterranean Sea :)

The provinces he's asking about (the ones occupied by the Ottomans in the screenshot) are landlocked, with no access to the sea and no land bridge to other Ottoman provinces. I'd say the Ottomans cannot core them. They do have claims from their mission tree, I believe, but not sure they'd be able to ask for them in a peace deal.

Hm... For me, Nile Delta is Rashid, Dumyat, Sharqiya, and maybe Al Gharbia for the company, so I assumed it's about coastal provinces :)

Should have described it better I think, although I figured the screenshot would clear things up. They didn't take them, so it's good (for now, as they're on the verge of breaking our alliance).

P.S. But don't build too much heavies, as you will be capturing enemy's heavies over the course of the game.

Also idea group recommendations would be nice.
Exploration is good, even as first pick - there are a lot of uncolonized lands around you, and you can expand into Polynesian Triangle and New Wrold (California and Mexico nodes). It also increases naval force limit. Colonization of New World gives you a chance to spawn Colonialism, and allows to have natural growth.

Expansion, if you don't want to take Exploration, or if you are really serious about colonies. Also note that you may want to vassalize Tidore or Ternate instead of simply conquering them, they are great colonizers.

Naval+Maritime are obvious picks if you want to build grandest fleet ever. But with your national ideas Naval is likely to be redundant, so it's more for role play (or multiplayer). Maritime may still be useful for force limit.

Is there any way to speed up integration ? I don't mind how cheesy it is.

I'm trying to integrate France (as Spain) for the last puzzle piece to form Rome.

Problem is, it's ticking up at 00.2% monthly; I have 8 diplo rep, perfect relations with them, and own half of Europe so the power imbalance isn't in their favour.

The game will run out long before I touch 50% on this integration, so I'm hoping there's some way to do it ?

If not, millions of Russian serfs died grinding down the Ottoblob for no reason :D

Do you have administrative ideas and influence ideas and the admin-influence policy? If not, and you have a LOT of admin/diplo mana, it may be worthwhile to drop one or two of your other idea groups. (Influence idea 3 gives -25% diploannexation cost; admin-influence policy gives another -20%.) (I'm assuming you're in the very lategame, so you don't have any open idea group slots and you won't unlock any in the near future.)

Have you run out of diplo mana? This may be an obvious question, but it's worth pointing out that running out of diplo mana slows diploannexation significantly.

Administrative efficiency apparently decreases diploannexation cost. If your absolutism is very low, can you boost it to 100? Can you do anything else to increase your admin efficiency (eg. build the Alhambra)?

If you can afford to increase France's liberty desire, you can concentrate development from their states. This will lower their total development and therefore decrease the diploannexation cost.

If I'm reading the Roman Empire decision correctly, you don't need to core all of the territory, you just need to own it. So, if your only goal is to form Rome before 1820 then you could repeatedly go to war with France (trucebreaking if necessary) and take their land by force.

There are two components, the cost of annexation and the speed of paying the cost.

To reduce the cost:
  • Nobility estate have a privilege that reduces the cost of diplo annexation by 5%.
  • Influence ideas give another 25%.
  • The policy for completing both Influence and Admin idea groups gives another 20%.
  • 50 Papal influence can buy another 10% cost reduction.
  • Admin efficiency also reduces the cost.
To reduce the speed:

  • Increase your diplomatic reputation.
  • Have the same dynasty.
  • Have the same primary culture.
You probably can't impact the last two of those once you've started annexation, but there are heaps and heaps of ways to increase diplomatic reputation.
