Australia isnt part of the new world so you will have to get a cn in america for colonialism to spread in your provinces.Hi
I play as Malacca on hard ironman. I have formed a colonial nation in Australia but I can't get started with colonialism as institution. There should be some progress because of "Port/Capital of Country with a New World Colonial Nation +0,83", right?
When I played as Aragon recently, I think it was working OK and I got one merchant for each colonial nation. Does it have to grow to some size before I get colonialism growth and additional merchant?
Activating a DLC in a running campaign usually causes problems. I didn't test this, but I think that the monuments won't work correctly, but the provinces modifiers which they replace in some cases will be gone(e.g. the missionary from owning Jerusalem). So, I saw 8-year anniversary sale and bought last exp[ansion that I didnt own. How will it impact my current Ironman campiagn and should I start fresh one to avoid issues?

If you still have a save from before you bought the new DLC, I'd recommend turning off the DLC until you finish out your current game. If you've already loaded the save with the DLC enabled, whatever damage it will cause is already done; double check achievements are still enabled if you're after some, and keep playing. Any weirdness you didn't notice immediately probably won't hurt you much, though some AI countries may spontaneously combust if something drastic changed for themSo, I saw 8-year anniversary sale and bought last exp[ansion that I didnt own. So, generally, any help understanding this game, and answering the above questions would be appreciated.
Specifically, here are my questions...
How do I combine multiple units into a single army, so I don't have to move four of them individually?
What qualifies as a "light" ship to patrol trade nodes?
WTF is "trade power" and why would I send money to someone else downstream?
Am I being too bellicose? I wasn't involved in a war for the first 15 years, and it just seemed like all I was doing was sitting around waiting for new notifications (so fun!).
One of the information boxes when I declared war showed the various forces at our disposals, and it was very favorable to me. Where did all the thousands of enemy reinforcements suddenly come from?
Why did one of my armies advance directly from Teruel to Calatayud without any problem, but another HAD to go thru Soria, resulting in them getting crushed one at a time, instead of showing up with superior force at the same time?
What's the functional difference between infantry and cavalry?
When I'm in a battle, what are all those yellow and red numbers and messages that show up over my army's head and then disappear?
How do enemy reinforcements suddenly show up at the most inopportune (for me) time?
Why can't I pursue the defeated army to destroy it?
How do I separate 1 or 2 units from my army?
How do I develop technology?
What are these "estates" and why do I care?
I don't have time to answer all your questions, but I have a few general tipps: the game has a lot of tooltips and looking at them would help you understand what is happening. For example the tooltip for the looming disaster notification would show you what disaster is about to happen and what contributes to its progress. If you prevent these factors, you might be able to prevent the disaster. If you click on the notification you will get to the stability screen which has an icon for the disaster and its tooltip will tell you what you have to do to stop the progress completely. In case you can't stop the progress(likely if the disaster is the Castilian civil war), the disaster will happen and then you should try to end it as soon as possible. The tooltip in the stability tab will then tell you how to end it. If you want to know before hand, you can read about disasters on the wiki. In general the wiki is a very good resource if you want to know how the game works. Looking up the specific things in the wiki would answer several of your questions.I've tried a few games on "easy", but always get frustrated by getting my ass kicked instantly, and restart another game. I've read the manual, done the tutorials, looked thru this forum, but over half of the stuff on the screen has no explanation, like why can't my attacking armies advance into an enemy province? Ok, I understand I have to declare war first, but even then, I take over a province, and I can't advance any further? And WTF is this "looming disaster" and how do I prevent it?
Cavalry is somewhat stronger, but you get penalties if you use too many of them. But cavalry is much more expensive, so the general recommendation is to not use any cavalry. What's the functional difference between infantry and cavalry?

move all to the same province and then select them all and look at all the buttons which you can pressHow do I combine multiple units into a single army, so I don't have to move four of them individually?
You don't siege faster with more units. But if you have less than the minimum needed units(depends on the maximum garrison of the fort) you won't siege at all. To win a war, try to siege more forts at the same time than the enemySpecifically, last 2 games I waited a number of turns to build up my army, and give myself a "cb" I guess they're called, then attacked aragon to take over valencia. The first game, I'm still laying siege to their fort, when they and their allies show up and take over province after province of mine, including laying siege to a fort of mine, and taking it with a much smaller army in half the time it's taking me to take over theirs!
They have different return provinces and a fort is restricting their movement. How that works exactly is very complicated and only very few people understand it completely. If you prefer the movement of one army, you can transfer all regiments of the other army into that army. You have to select the provinces which you want to take in the peace treaty. You can do that on the first tab of the peace screen or by clicking on them on the map while the peace deal is open. But not all CBs allow the taking of provinces. Most notably the humiliate rival CB doesn't allow anything which would make the defender lose land (but the attacker can lose provinces if he loses the war)Next question.... It doesn't seem like I can keep any of my newly conquered lands. The peace interface lets me select humiliate, transfer trade power, etc. but any peace treaty I make, the lands revert back to Aragon. Am I missing something? How do I win the game if I don't take over their territory?
You probably used the "humiliate" cb, which explicitly disqualifies you from taking any provinces. (This is documented in the war declaration text, but there's a lot of text in there so it's very tempting to just not read it.)Thanks for your replies. I was actually able to beat Aragon as Castille with the help of your suggestions, and Portugal. I crushed them, and took control of all their lands.

1) in one of the last pages of ledger you have a list of your casus belliI used the humiliate CB, so I guess I'm out of luck for taking over land. More questions have come up, though.....
Is there anywhere I can see all my CBs against people, or do I have to go to the declare war tab on every province?
I can now build castles in 3 provinces. Is there any conventional knowledge as to where these should be built? I'm thinking I don't want to build one because of the maintenance cost.
I have no ability to make a "core". First of all, it seems important, but what is a core, and secondly, how do I gain the ability to acquire some?
At this point, why do I care about disputed successions in far away provinces?
How do I know if my Peasants War is over? I've eliminated all their armies.
How do I increase my stability?
Does a castle provide the same benefits as a fortress as far as hindering the movement of enemy armies?
Why do I care if my nobility estate becomes disloyal? Or the church?
Thanks in advance for your help!
