I'm having trouble figuring out why I'm not using the trade power in Alexandria it says I'm using (green circle in trade screen) to transfer trade to my home collection hub of Alexandria (green arrow).

The same sort of thing seems to happen in Crimea as well.

The message "We transfer 1.86 to Constantinople" is wrong. If you don't have a merchant in the node, you don't have any influence over the direction that the trade goes. Only the countries that have a merchant decide the direction of all the trade value that leaves the node. If you would send a merchant to Alexandria, you may even send more than the 1.86 to Constantinople if there are other countries who don't have a merchant there.

Is there any easy way to see states where you don't have State Houses? All the other buildings have the blue color if built, not the State Houses. Thanks.
You can't build multiple state houses in the same state, so when you build one in one of the provinces that state will completely grey out in the map.

I have no idea how much gold I'll need to have on hand when I'm planning to immediately embrace a given institution. The "EMBRACE" button only gives a number when I have enough provinces where the institution is present. Is there a way to get a number before I have the minimum threshold of provinces so I know how much gold to save?

If you hover over the bar, it will tell you how much your most expensive provinces cost and the sum of the cost for the other provinces.

The AI manpower reserves always seem to be grossly underrepresented. Is there a way to get at a more accurate measure?

Look at their professionalism in the ledger.

That will give you an idea of how many times they can use Slacken Recruiting Standards.

Thanks. I will have to start using the ledger more often.

As a follow up though, the ledger says that the mighty commonwealth only has 33K manpower reserves. It has been around 33K for just about ever, even while we were prosecuting a somewhat lengthy war against them. Isn't that a bit low for an outfit the size of the Commmonwealth?

What is the difference between "hunting pirates" and "protecting trade" missions for fleets? What implications are there for the fleet composition for each of those two missions.

(Context I have a valuable trade node Bordeaux, where Pirates have 10% of the trade power, and Denmark has hired a fleet of 11 Privateers in the area. I'm unsure if this is one in the same or different.)

Hunt pirates reduces pirates' trade power in a node, number of cannons is crucial here, i.e. heavy ships are most effective.

Protect trade increases your own trade power and light ships are only ones that you can use. (See Flagship modifications for an exception).

Getting back to the game and playing as England (just formed Great Britain). I have a couple of colonies in North America and while I have not run out of spaces to put new colonies I am trying to set up the easiest way for me to conquer the provinces with native americans. What's the easiest way to get CBs against these nations? I only have Exploration + Expansion and am working my way through Trade at the moment. Am I forced to get Religious Idea Group or is the Force Migration CB enough for this?

Why do I sometimes lose access to trade nodes? E.g., For years I was transferring a ton of trade power from the lucrative Ivory Coast trade node, but after dismantling a part of Spain and suffering a major relations hit with them, I no longer have a merchant at this particular node....the tooltip says it's outside my range, which seems strange because this is very late game and I have colonies, trading posts, all over the world.

Well, you can fabricate claims in Colonial regions with Full Exploration, so you use that to get Conquest CB.

@SirGrotius - you seem to be on the 'political' mapmode in your screenshot - not the trade mapmode. The the supply ship range is slightly different to the trade range (though related). If it's out of your range, on the trade mapmode the node should have a checkerboard look.

You also seem to have all your merchants occupied. Is it possible that you've pulled a merchant to a new node from this one accidentally?

One last thing, you have all your merchants currently collecting trade from each node.
Sending as much trade to your home node (the one with your capital, or Main Trade City if you set otherwise) is usually the best strategy. You don't strictly need a merchant at your home node (you get a 10% buff to efficiency ) as you collect trade there automatically.

If you collect trade from your home node, and have all your merchants upstream 'transfer trade power' to your home node, you get a 10% bonus to trade power per merchant.
With your 8 merchants that would be an 80% increase. Getting more merchants means you can stack even more.
Trade also increases in value when it is transferred, the effect declines after several nodes, but it is a real bonus.

after my previous campaign failure , i restarted a new one , as Burgundy...
Marie died in a pulse event, does that change anything in the inheritance events? i did look at the files but seems the events are a bit scattered.

Titanius thank you for the wonderfully clear and helpful explanation! I think it was a glitch, as I was able to send the merchant there a month or two later. Not sure what was happening, but anyway, sage advice on trade. I've found in general trade to be the easiest way to garner income.
