I'm struggling with getting Animist Zealots move over from Sulawesi to Borneo or Java, is there anything I can do? They don't get any progress towards crossing the water

If you have any ships protecting trade that pass the port of the province they're in (or moving to) it creates a blockade and resets their movement just like crossing an uncontrolled strait.

In that case, a country could pay over 100% of its income in war reparations, so it is always spending more than its makes.

Yes.

I want to Force Vassalize Anhault. They're guaranteed by Brunswick. I don't want to fight Brunswick (plus they're my ally and I'd like to keep it that way in the near term).

Anhault is allied to Hesse, so of course I can just attack Hesse to get Anhault into a war without Brunswick being called.

That's good enough if they were just allied, but presumably guarantees are different? Will Brunswick declare war if I try to take Anhault?

You can DOW Hesse without Brunswick interfering, as long as you don't mark Anhalt (or any other country allied with / guaranteed by Brunswick) as co-belligerent.

Is there any practical value, other than cost, in having mixed fleets? Like, late game, if you can afford it, is it best to just have a big fleet of heavies to do all your fighting while your light ships sit it out?

I confess I've never put much thought into naval warfare - I usually just group all my lights and heavies into one fleet during big wars - but a recent and incredibly embarrassing loss to England in a recent campaign has me questioning that approach. I know they're England and they had naval ideas on top of that, but it still seemed like a fight I should have won considering I had twice as many heavies and about four times as many ships total while being at the same dip tech.

@ Haliphas : 1 light ship is cheaper and more efficient for blocus than a heavy. But 5 heavy can give you time for run if you are attacked. So I often mixt ligh/heavy during a war.
For pure fight, I dont think so.

---------------

I would like try to form germany, I conquest in HRE enough lands, and i have as primary culture Dutch. Suprise, the Dutch are germanic but cannot form germany. So, it is ok, I just change my capital in another germanic culture, and switch my culture and form Germany. Suprise, we cannot anymore change primary culture so easly.

So, how I can have the decision for form germany if I am Dutch and have the good province ?

Naval combat width was added a few patches ago, meaning pure numbers will not win you the battles at sea. In open seas use only heavy ships and in closed seas like the Med and the Baltic use only Galleys. Heavies are also usable here. Basically fight only with heavies or Galleys.

You need to change your primary culture to Westphalian, Pomeranian, Rhenish, Saxon, Bavarian, Prussian, Swabian or Franconian. The culture you choose must be at least 50% of your total state development. Change province culture or remove states to do this.

Basically fight only with heavies or Galleys.

While not wrong, I think that's overly simplistic ... sure, do all the heavy lifting with Heavies (Galleys are to individually weak, needing to high numbers to pair up favorably against heavies even if in Inland seas), but don't shy away from using your trade ships if that's the best you have and the opponent is severely outnumbered (I think somewhere around 6 Lights can take a same period Heavy if you accept losses ... ~10 Lights can take on a heavy without losses), or they spot a transport fleet, or even a hostile trading fleet

Are you sure I can do that ?

From wiki :
The player can not shift to a culture that is accepted due to the cultural union granted by Empire level government.
Not sure about what that means (not my main language). Even if Franconian is a accepted due to empire, i can change ?

Oh I did not know this. It seems silly to me. I guess you are stuck if your government level is Empire. I don't know if you can reduce your development and go back to being Kingdom rank.

Thanks for expanding, I don't disagree with what you said.

is there any way of seeing how much of your development is under a certain kind of religion? To find out when, or how far away it is from going over 50% to convert

You can open the ledger, go to "economy" and then "charts" - there will be a chart showing you the religious makeup of your country

I think like the ability to convert it is based on # of provinces, not development

look at that chart indeed.

its not number of provinces afaik, its indeed development controlled by most dominant religion.

But in all honesty, consider using zealots to go the full 100% while declaring fire and forget war so you cannot collapse to zealots.

If you got loads of missionaries though, consider leaving catholic at 51% and converting rest for papal influence and prestige (from age perk).

good luck.

If I am Hungary and under PU of Austria, if I delete all my land units, ...

Does military score include subjects?

...and after I delete my units, will this influence austrias decision to declare war?
