If I managed to conquer the needed provinces as Portugal, should I form Spain?
What are the precise ups (and eventual downs) for that?

And... is it any way that I could add some other tracks to my EU IV experience (running it over Steam). Copy-paste in the soundtrack folder does not seem to help. :(

Depends on what you want, Spanish Ideas, which I don't think you have to take, as you can keep Portuguese ideas, are mostly focused on war and religion, whereas Portugal is focused elsewhere. Do you prefer green or yellow? Spain has some kind of horrible late events (civil wars and such, dutch rebellions), you can avoid some but not all of those. It depends how early it is, and a bunch of other stuff.

I continued past the game ending, so it is around 1880.

That doesn't sound quite right.

Isn't the 50 rule that whatever religion has 50% of the core development is what it gets released as no matter what the province(s) released or the overlord have (in the case of a tie then it goes with the default religion for the tag)?

Well nearly. The old religion is counted double. So if you wanna release a nation with a new religion you need 67% of development to be from new religion.

Do colonial wars have any purpose now that protectorates are removed? This seems a bit odd, since colonial wars are a feature you had to pay for.

Nope, no purpose at all.

Do tributaries count as "real" vassals for the purpose of the World Conquest achievement? I want to see if I can do it relatively easily as Ming.

99% sure that they don't count for WC.

The Dutch rebellions have a chance of firing between 1550 and 1650 for anyone owning the Dutch or Flemish cores, who does not have a Capital in the region OR is not of Flemish or Dutch culture, like after I culture flip to Flemish so I can actually pass some HRE reforms, I can move my Capital to London, and never have to worry about it. It's for any country that owns those cores in the Netherlands region if they don't match those two conditions. I think it used to be a Spanish thing, but now it's everyone.

Why is in this screenshot the signal for Tibet joining the war as Ming ally marked as a red cross ("they won't join") when the tooltip gives them a +30 to comes and -20 to not come (which should mean =+10 => they will come.




When I start the war, they come obviously, meaning the red thing is wrong :/

(Mong Yang has the same modifiers and is correctly listed as green ("coming")).

Edit: I save the game and started without any mod (I was thinking that could be a UI mod mistake...), and it's still green for Mong Yang and red for Tibet.

Looks like a bug. If you still have the save game from before the war then make a report on the bug forum and upload the save.

Damn I forgot to save it and restarted a game because not happy after all with the "confuscianist" switch event I had earlier...

So a new question: when you take the throne of Chian you get a popup to go to Confuscianism religion (because it is the faith of the Empire). Is it mandatory to become confuscianist (I don't recall if I had an option in the popup)? In my next Japan game I'd like to try the "go full isolationnist" option in the shinto religiion... but still take lands in China.

Damn I forgot to save it and restarted a game because not happy after all with the "confuscianist" switch event I had earlier...

So a new question: when you take the throne of Chian you get a popup to go to Confuscianism religion (because it is the faith of the Empire). Is it mandatory to become confuscianist (I don't recall if I had an option in the popup)? In my next Japan game I'd like to try the "go full isolationnist" option in the shinto religiion... but still take lands in China.
