Is there any way to promote a culture that is in your cultural union? I'm trying my first Ottoman game and going for, among other things, Arabian Coffee, but I can't figure out how to promote Syrian so that I can culture shift as it is already accepted as part of the Levantine cultural union granted by Empire rank.

You need to make it your dominant culture - which is to say, you must have more total development in your Syrian provinces than you do in provinces of any other culture.

Sorry guys, I'm still stumped. I thought it just had to be the highest culture% of any culture, but that didn't work, so I got it over 50% of the total, and I still can't figure out how to promote/shift

The wiki says:

The player can not shift to a culture that is accepted due to the cultural union granted by Empire level government.

which is why I originally asked here. Even after getting to 52% I don't have the option to culture shift - the button just isn't there.

upload_2017-4-17_13-28-3.png

EDIT: Actually, I'm just going to convert away to Greek, shift, then back to Syrian. I am at about 65% now Syrian so I'll have to change some of that back. Will edit again presuming it works. Wish I hadn't wasted so much diplo though.

If I play a Merchant republic, but decide to change the government form, how do I do that the best way?
Just re-electing the same Guy over and over again, until I become a Dictatorship?

And If my government changes and I am not a Merchant Republic anymore, will I have a Truce with all former Trade League members?

Yup. And of course, there's the option of choosing the tradition-reducing options in Republican pulse events to further accelerate the process.
And If my government changes and I am not a Merchant Republic anymore, will I have a Truce with all former Trade League members?
No idea.

What happens to the trade posts, which I built for 50 admin power? Will they be destroyed?

Also, if I had chosen Plutocratic ideas, will the idea group change?

Don't remember for sure but I think the trade posts disappear.

Bureaucratic Idea group remains unchanged if you already have it selected but becomes unavailable if you don't, in either case Autocratic becomes available.

Situation:

France (+ his colony Mexican french) declares colony war on Mexican Ming, my colony (I'm Ming obviously).

I try to impose peace to France, which didn't agree => i'm now at war with France (+ colony).
Calling Ottomans in (by me), France calls Naple and Scotland in.

We enjoy a hard war, and I'm starting to win, because you know, ship transports and IA, and naval superiority in the Atlantic ocean.

Then out of the blue, Mexican Ming do a white-peace with France, who agrees. (My colony started to have separatists rebels spawning.)

Is that normal? shouldn't a colony never be able to do separate peace?

crimean khanate succession

So I'm playing the ottomans in ironman. The year is 1460 and Haji Giray is dead. Crimea have a regency which started in 1455 so 5 years ago. I didn't see the event at all, I mean granted I wasn't looking for it but it should be a pop up and pause it's hard to miss right? Can anyone explain what's happened, if and why the event failed to fire?

edit:Ignore this the event fired about a week after I unpaused.

There is unfortunately no way to shift to another culture in your culture group if you're already a Cultural Union - Ming also can't switch to Manchu for example

Do tributaries get a CB to get out of their tributary? I noticed that tributaries with LD > 50% will start allying with each other just like CNs do before declaring war.

They can just cancel the agreement as a diplomatic action. The risk is that the former overlord may decide that they want them back as a tributary and go to war to force them back in.

Liberty desire tends to rise because the overlord is not defending tributaries or is seen as weak so the tributaries decline to send the annual tribute. Those factors may explain why tributaries ally each other.

I have figured out, that Genoa has plenty missions that give Mercantilism, but what you are not told, the set of missions changes, when you turn to a dictatorship.

1. Does the old set of missions come back if you change back to a merchant republic?
2. Are there more countries, who lose their set of missions, when they change the government form? (probably Venice, too, when losing enough tradition? Even more countries?)

(3. Are Merchant republics ment to lose their government form after a while? There are events and elections draining republican tradition ALL THE TIME, but I see no `natural` way of ever recharging the tradition)

While I was building up the British rule in India, a couple of Indian states I wanted to vassalize was found to be the tributaries of Ming. So that effectively ruled out the diplomatic action of vassalizing them since it is not visible. What are my options here? I was hoping there might be ways to sabotage the relations between them and the Ming as so to encourage them to break off their tributary relationship with the Ming.

The only way to break it is to demand that from Ming. What you should do is fully annex then release as vassal. If you don't want to fight Ming then you will need to become a tributary so he won't get called in.

OK, so I am not sure if I should ask this one here, but I am playing as Portugal and Castille had several Colonial Nations, and one of them (La Plata) broke free.
I have Colonial Nations in: Carribean, Peru, Colombia and Australia.

La Plata had no allies, was attacked by The Netherlands and Brazil (which also broke free from Castille and ate most of British Brazil), so, since I finished my conquests in Spice Islands for the moment, I decided to conquer some parts of it, so i will have a Colonial Nation out there too.
I conquered some provinces from La Plata, one of those provinces (being part of Peru Colonial Region) defected to Peru, but the other ones are still under my flag, although I have no Overextension associated to them, but I have, though, some minor costs for coring them.
What is even odder is that only 2 provinces (from about 15-20) are still contributing to Overextension.

I just thought that the provinces will automatically form Portuguese La Plata as a Colonial Nation, so I will need no additional Admin Points to core them, but this did not happen.

Just check the printscreens below and let me know, if possible, if this worked as intended, or if I am doing something wrong over here (I would like to have Portuguese La Plata as CN, so I can conquer whole La Plata and give the provinces to my CN)!
