It seems to be impossible to spawn Colonialism institution in France - requirements include 'must have a port in Paris', or words to that effect. Is this right, or am I missing something? This would also seem to make it impossible for Castile, or any country whose capital isn't a port.

It spawned in France for me a few times (Castile too), including the reload I went with*, so it is definitely possible.

*I'd been reloading, trying to get it to spawn in my capital (custom nation in Cape Verde) before I came to the understanding institutions never spawn on islands.

You are missing something. Specifically, you are missing the fact that the interface for telling you how an institution can be spawned is a pile of crap in dire need of upgrading.

Any province that satisfies the criteria described is a valid spawn point, but the user interface will only tell you whether your capital is eligible.

Yeah, that tooltip did not help me either in the aforementoned regard.

What is the historical background of the RED Yuan banner for the 1.21 patch? I've never seen it made like that. Blue and white was much more central to Mongol culture and history.

A question concerning trade companies.

I'm playing Portugal and colonizing Ivory Coast in Africa. I pressed the button "Make it a trade company" so I got. After that I cored the province and no my trade company is gone in Africa. How can I go back? Colonize more in Ivory Coast? Or undo the coring? How?

Thanks for the help!

Edit: And is it possible to take the decision "confirm Thalassocracy" and then later change to a monarchy, but still keep the Thalassocracy-buff?

You are adding some requirement in your head. Thalassocracy requires no particular government, period.

It seems to be impossible to spawn Colonialism institution in France - requirements include 'must have a port in Paris', or words to that effect. Is this right, or am I missing something? This would also seem to make it impossible for Castile, or any country whose capital isn't a port.

I'd say that it's not so much he is missing something as that this is a particularly good and obvious example of one of EU4's interface failures. That the birth of colonialism requires a port but the list implies it must be precisely, exactly, and only your capital is silly, and wrong.

Trade companies can only exist in territorial cores so if you made the territory into a state that will be why you lost your trade company. Downgrade the state back to a territory and the button should come back. Also, in 1.20, trade company provinces have zero autonomy so there is no reason to put those provinces into states anyway.

In the Dev Diary. As you can see the flag they gave Yuan is a white, red and black(?) banner. It makes no sense to me.
Here are some examples. Look at the main colours.

I'd forgotten I'd read that!

I can't answer your question but you might be better off starting a thread about it rather than just asking it in this quick questions thread. There may well be other users who know something about Chinese / Mongolian history who would have some input for you.

Thanks! Where should I make this thread? I peaked around for a bit but wasn't sure where it would be appropriate. I would also like to hear it directly from the horses mouth, so if the Devs could provide a justification that'd be great.

Just make a new thread in the main forum to discuss your thoughts and see who joins in. If you give it simple title like "Why is Yuan's flag red?" then the developers may see that and comment. No way to make sure they do though!

Does anyone know if this is a bug or am I missing some requirement from dismantling the HRE? As far as I know, all requirements are met (all electors are in the war on my side and the emperor's capital is occupied by me).

Attached is a picture of the "Dismantle HRE" button when I hover over it.

The port must be in your capital area - that means it must be in any province which is connected by land to your capital

They should change it to something less confusing since "area" otherwise has a very specific meaning

I don't think that is correct. Unless they changed it a couple patches ago, I should be able to dismantle the HRE when all of the elector-princes are on my side of the war and the emperor's capital is occupied. The only thing that I can think of is that the Emperor is not the war leader on the opposite side. Does anyone know if this is the case?

Lets say Austria guarantees for Lorraine. Also Lorraine is allied with Burgundy and Austria is allied with me.
I want to conquer Lorraine and I want not to face Austria.

Does it work, when I declare war on Burgundy and call Austria in and make Lorraine a CO-Beligerent?

I should call Austria in before they get called in by Lorraine, right?"

Yes. Calls to allies go out before calls to allies of allies, so Austria will receive your call before they receive Lorraine's.

DUDE! It didnt work! Now I have to fight Austria!

That shouldn't be the issue either. That certainly looks bugged to me. I suggest you make a bug report in the relevant sub-forum and upload your save file there.
