It's been a loooong time since I've messed with protectorates - is it still the case that they can't ever evolve into vassals?

As a reformed Inca, I invaded Mexico and released the previously dead nation of Cocomes after taking their core provinces from Itza in a war, expecting that they would release as a vassal I could then blob. Despite inheriting my technology, they didn't. Am I now just stuck with a protectorate I didn't want?

-For the current version of the game, protectorates automatically gain independence once they no longer have an institution gap with their overlord. So as soon as they have the cash to embrace, they're no longer going to be subject to you. Granted, you could then vassalize them via war (but a truce may apply), so it's not all bad.
-In the next update to the game, 1.20, protectorates are being done away with entirely, and their subject-specific interactions are being rolled into vassal interactions. This was shown off on Johan's Twitter as a "fix" to protectorates; it's rather unfortunate that the last several "fixes" we've gotten have actually straight up removed features, and this continues that disconcerting trend. On the bright side, it means you won't see this particular problem again, as they'll simply release as a vassal regardless.

Ok. Thanks. I guess I'll just wait for them to break free, vassalize, feed them what I can, and take the rest of Mexico directly.

In my last game Savoy accepted a offensive cta only if I give it Sardinia from enemy Aragon.

We won, but in peace treaty Savoy didnt want sardinia even if they occupied it and had a claim.
I give them no lands cause they refused all, but i got a -20 trust for give them no province.

Bug or what?

I heard that after 1820 you can continue to play if you don't play ironman, it's true? Without any mods
As long as it's not ironman, yes.

There is a known bug (that was supposed to be fixed) where the AI refuses to take any lands because they're factoring in your overextension from the peace treaty. If you already tried granting them the lands they wanted before selecting your own war goals, then this is the other bug, where the AI states it wants a province, but for bizarre reasons actually doesn't.

That's not a bug though, that's very often just vital interest and FOR SOME REASON it is WAD.

Easiest way to provoke it is to force any nation with vital interest without a land connection to it to DoW someone.

Won't take anything, even if they could. Think I've seen Ottos take Salento once, might be my imagination though.

Either way, sea tiles do not matter when it comes to "vital interest", they only matter when taking provinces.

There are other factors too, but that's the easiest one to abuse.

New question (old one below in quotes):

Assigning territory to the nobility removes LA for its manpower modifier and force limit as well as other modifiers depending on their loyalty.

Why does my tax total increase when I assign a province to the nobility? Seems like a bug to me.
There is one action needed to refresh the values, so when you state something and then assign it to the nobility, the effect of going down in autonomy may only appear once you assign it to the nobility. If this is not that, there is no reason why you could have this and this might be a bug, but I have never noticed it, while I noticed plenty of time the fact that once I state something, it takes one action for the actual values to display. Same for buildings, if you state something and want to put a workshop instantly, it will say you get a crap amount of money unless you close the province window and reopen it, where you will get the actual amount of money based on the new autonomy.

In my last game Savoy accepted a offensive cta only if I give it Sardinia from enemy Aragon.

We won, but in peace treaty Savoy didnt want sardinia even if they occupied it and had a claim.

Bug or what?
Not a bug, but something annoying. I don't think anyone has mentionned it yet: if you transfer occupation of all the provinces they marked as special interest, they will be happy even if you end up giving them nothing. The "bug" is due to the fact that AI finally doesn't want any land, but remembers it used to want land, so by transferring everything they set as special interest to them you will make them understand that none of these provinces is actually wanted.

No, everything in the "possible" block is only checked at game start. Since the "happened" block doesn't require you to be any specific tag, forming a country won't prevent you from getting the achievement.

Is this the day I've been waiting for? I took advantage of the EUIV Collection 75% off sale last November. And then I took advantage of the franchise sale which expires tomorrow. I now have 9 expansions and some DLC that was included in the Collection package. is there 9 expansions? Kiss the sky, I'm now caught up?!?!

EDIT

And how do you know if you have the lastest patch and beta patch? Sorry, I'm new to steam.

Nine, yup. Though a tenth will be launching, probably in the next month or so.

Steam automatically keeps your game up-to-date unless you turn that off (per game setting), and you have to opt in to betas (of which currently only older versions are available, there is presently no public beta for future builds). Just in case that's not enough, you can see your current version number in the launcher window (along with your checksum), as well as at the main screen once the game finishes loading, before selecting a savegame/starting a new country.
is there a command/fix that allows the player to select as many peace terms as they want even though the demands exceed 100% warscore (i.e. not having them greyed out), like the way it used to be?
Unfortunately it appears to be hardcoded into the engine. Even yesman doesn't allow for it.

Change OCCUPATION_PROV_VAL_DECAY_MAX = 0.5 to 100 for max provinces.

Or create a new cb that gives 100% cost reduction on everything.

Thank you very much. I'm all ready to load.

Is it worth Promoting cultures in the same Cultural Group as your primary culture, but not fully Accepted Culture? For example as England, I didn't promote Scottish culture because I knew that once I form Great Britain, it would be tolerated anyway as part of the British culture group...

But as Brandenburg, is it worth promoting Pomeranian, given that it makes up nearly half of my country presently, and I think it will be a VERY long time before I can form Germany, which presumably accepts all cultures in the Germanic culture group.
