Hi all,

I have formed Bharat as Orissa but despite owning WoN and having territorial cores in TC regions (Indonesian and Moluccan) I cannot hand control over these territories to Trade Companies. Help would be appreciated, save is uploaded.

Edit: @atwix

you can't make TC on same continent as your capital.

It was possible in 1.7 (resulting in real silly weirdness when playing in India), but not anymore.

Hello everyone, I need some help.
I played EU3 a lot many years ago, and I think I will start playing EU4 now. Below is a pic with the EU4 content I have, but a lot more were released in past two years. I need a recommendation of which expansion packs should I get while this sale is on. In EU3, I prefered playing with specialization on war more than on trade, colonization or nation unification. I also prefer DLC with universal mechanics, and do not like set country-bonuses too much. So, how should I start learning EU4- with what I have, with some specific DLC, or do I try to get every expansion pack? Also, do game mechanics come only with EU4 expansion packs, or some come with smaller DLC as well? BTW, I'll start with single-player. Thank you for any advice!
upload pics

That's a lot of questions, actually. I'm not exactly a veteran here (apart from asking stupid Holland related questions that is, I rock at that). But given the nature of the question, and the fact your question hasn't been tackled yet, gives me incentive to add some advice.

There's a fair number of questions regarding what DLC to get for certain play styles, or just give the most 'bang for their buck'. You can do a quick search for some additional advice. Note that most of what you have installed above are unit packs. They add flavor, but no mechanics whatsoever. The only expansion DLC you have added is Res Publica, which arguably is the least useful. Currently, the game has the following expansions, in order of appearance: Conquest of Paradise, Wealth of Nations, Res Publica, Art of War, El Dorado, Common Sense, The Cossacks, Mare Nostrum, and the latest being Rights of Man.

Anyway, generally speaking, the following DLC are probably a good investment for you, in order of importance:
1. Art of War. This is a must have, really. It expands on warfare mechanics, and peace dealing as well. It's actually the one DLC that you must have, especially if you enjoy the warring side of things.
2. Rights of Man. The latest expansion to come out, it comes with only a 25% reduction. It's still pretty good, with the Great Power mechanic added, and with leader/ruler traits added. Also, more attention is given to Prussia. While you are not into country bonuses, from a warring perspective, this is one nation that is definitely worth taking note of.
3. Mare Nostrum might be nice, it allows you to rent out your army and expands on naval missions.
4. Common Sense: It adds provincial development, which is necessary to have if you plan to use The Cossacks. It also adds National Focus, which is very useful, but that was included in Res Publica as well, so you don't need it for that reason.

EDIT: Grommile mentioned that Common Sense is pretty much compulsory if you want to play in Asia without resorting to the Tentacle of Knowledge. I have not all that much experience in Asia, but grommile is a veteran here, he knows his stuff. So feel free to bump Common Sense up then to seat 2 perhaps. I'd still go for the Cossacks as well, if you invest in Common Sense though.

4. Yes, another 4. That would be Cossacks. If you get the one, get the other as well. Cossacks adds Estates, which definitely adds depth to the game. There's also some new war mechanics, such as the option to Threaten war(demand a province without having to go to war over it), that you might like.
5. Conquest of Paradise/Wealth of Nations/El Dorado. These are more focused on the new world. colonizing and trade, and not on warfare so much. Still, Conquest of Paradise also allows you to play with random worlds, which might be nice.

Learning EUIV? Well, there are some definite changes from EUIII, but a lot of it is similar. There are some good tutorial campaigns to be found on Youtube. One I watch is a scottish one from Arumba and Filthy Robot, where Arumba explains EUIV mechanics to Filthy. It's quite slow and pretty in depth... He touches upon a lot of things. It's also current, it started in november, and he uses all available expansions, including Rights of Man. You might also want to check out the EUIV wiki, or read some of the AAR's on this forum for an idea of how to play or what country might be fun. I had a blast reading atwix's three mountains achievement AAR, where you conquer the world with Ryuku. That one is outdated with all the new patches, but still a nice read... and he has more AAR's, more current too. Plus, his playing style seems to match what you want out of EUIV.

Some of the mechanics come with the DLC, some with the free accompanying patches. There are no mechanics added in smaller DLC, not that I'm aware of anyway.

Thanks for the additional info there. I'll edit it into my answer, with proper credits given :)

Thanks for the info. I decided to get everything except '5.' I found that I have already purchased Wealth of Nations and Conquest of Paradise on Gamersgate, but have not registered on Steam, and now they don't have steam keys for me. So I'll try to get them, but those and El Dorado can probably wait a bit. At first, I have to choose and play some easy European country. Then I'll try Lithuania (that is why I wanted Cossacks, and Common Sense- to have more interesting neighbours.
Thanks for the tips on tutorial videos.

Is there a way to auto-pause on actions that require a reply (when event appears)?
Yes, there is an auto-pause option (for events) in the settings which is in the bottom-left-corner of the screen once in the singleplayer menu.

So, I decided to try my hand at Austria, and I'm unsure if I have a good start or if I should just restart.

Basically, everything is going great, It's 1459 and I've got my PU over Bohemia, I'm just missing Verona and Rome to prevent Shadow Kingdom, BI triggered and I inherited all of the land not in France, I even got a foothold in Albania to take on the Ottos and conquered on province from France for a mission...
BUT Ladislaus got an heir directly when ascending the throne, so the PU event over Hungary didn't fire. Will there be another event down the line to get the PU? or should I wait for them to not have an heir, RM and claim throne directly?

Also, what's a good way to make money as Austria? I usually rely on trade, but inland nodes aren't that great for that...

There is a mission that can give you a Restoration of Union CB over Hungary under certain conditions. Mainly, they need to have been beaten up a bit, and Poland and Ottomans tend to dogpile them. Try breaking your alliance with Hungary if you have one so if the mission is available you can go right to war.

As for money, since you've inherited the Netherlands area you should move your Main Trading Port to the Channel node. Make your Dutch holdings into states and assign them estates if you have not done so (I tend to forget...). Channel node is generally better than Venice.

Also you start with a gold mine and an idea that reduces inflation so you can develop it to 10 prod. Since you're in Albania, there's a gold mine in Kosovo if you can take it.

Good to know for Hungary.
I know the English channel is better than Venice, but I have absolutely no way to steer trade around there, as I only own the Netherlands; is it still worth it?
Thanks anyway.

@londoner247 Thanks for the answer. You were right.

I've another question, i've search around wiki and forum but i found nothing about.

I will do a concrete example: Me, as France, had a royal marriage with Milan who got no heir.
The game said "a noble from De Valois will succede the Throne".

It happened, and Carlo I De Valois now rules Milan... but Milan now switched to Ambrosian Republic!

Is there any Spy action which I can use to "support" that ruler to become the "dictator" or the "duke" of Milan instead of the President?
Cause in 4 years there will be a new president and all my marriage, alliance, gift, improved relations etc for have a De Valois in Milan... would be wasted!

When Milan becomes Republic, its Catholic neighbours get a special CB to restore the monarchy, but I don't know if Valois will become the ruling dynasty again. There is not much else you can do once the event happens. Milan will almost always become a republic early on.

Is there a way of being notified if you kill an enemies ruler in battle?
Not that I'm aware of, but it would be nice wouldn't it?

enable popup/pause for new ruler coming to power in that nation, after making it interesting nation. You will get popup when ruler dies for the NEW ruler, and the icon of the king leading the battle will be gone all of sudden.

In my current Poland game attacked Saxony with the intent of vassalizing it. Already had Brandburg so used their reconquest CB to do it. Bohemia my ally helped. We all occupy 2 territories. I give Brandenburg 2, Bohemia 1 it doesn't want more. However I can not vassilize Saxony, the only option in the peace screen is them becoming a vassal of Bohemia (!) which it doesn't want. What gives? Or rather what caused this?
