Question: Is there any way I can preserve having the English monarchy government type after the English Civil War disaster if you go royalist? AFAIK going for Cromwell will give you republican dictatorship which then reverts to English monarchy after the Restoration. Winning as a royalist seems to give Absolute Monarchy with no way to return to English monarchy.

And as an aside: Merry Christmas to all you Paradox GSGamers, and to Pdox staff and forum mods.
Royalist will always make you Absolute Monarchy.

Parliamentarian path is a bit more nuanced than you describe. If Cromwell is still ruler when the civil war concludes then you remain in a dictatorship, however when Cromwell dies after the civil war ends then you are given a choice of constitutional monarchy or constitutional republic. And you're given the same choice if Cromwell dies before the civil war is over.

Conclusion seems to be that the only way to keep English Monarchy is to avoid the Civil War altogether.

Outta curiosity, what is the difference between Constitutional Monarchy and English Monarchy? I've tried both (with Ming and England) and didn't notice anything different.

How useful is Mare Nostrum for playing as say, Holland? The only two expansions I don't have are Mare Nostrum and Rights of Man... So what does Mare Nostrum offer Holland, apart from the fact that you can rent out soldiers (not really my cup of tea) and that all my lovely dutch OPM rivals could now join a trade league? (and probably will too, Hansa?). Particularly the latter one is unappealing for me. I have no desire to engage a league of trade nations whenever I try to target one, dammit. Not to mention their other allies!
I'd say pretty useful, it adds a bunch of naval stuff (stuff for sailors, naval missions), allows you to promote mercantilism, condottieri is interesting in the HRE and rework of espionage. As for the trade leagues I wouldn't worry, the more members it has the less likely new ones are to join and from what I've seen the hanseatic league tends to be German opm's close to Lubeck but have seen the Dutch join Genoa

To summarise, whilst it isn't key to playing a Dutch game and overall one of the worst expansions the addition of the naval and espionage stuff will certainly make your save more interesting

The Dutch minors actually join the Genoese trade league most of the time. And it would be silly to say it changes nothing. Playing around Netherlands, Northern Germany or Italy is totally different whether or not you have Mare Nostrum. Trade leagues change everything because most of the OPM suddenly have a 30k men alliance that makes things tricky at the beginning.

is there a way to edit religions file to allow catholics to marry any religion?
Only by allowing all Christians to do so: remove Christianity's can_form_personal_unions = yes line.
is there a way to allow a religion to make personal unions like christians?
Only an entire religion group, by adding can_form_personal_unions = yes to it; this will disable their ability to marry out-of-group.

Yes, Paradox made the two abilities a simple switch: either you can have PUs or you can marry out of group. You can't have both and you can't have neither.

English Monarchy's autonomy reduction is slower and has -1 unrest and +0.5 legitimacy, while Constitutional has +1 legitimacy and -5 years of separatism which reduces unrest in conquered provinces by 2.5

Constitutional is superior in my opinion because reduced unrest is easy to find elsewhere while separatism reduction is not.

I am working on the Consulate of the Sea achievement. The wiki does not list if you can form Spain and still get the achievement. Does anyone know for sure If I can form Spain and still be eligible for the achievement?

yes it is possible
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...f-the-sea-form-another-nation-allowed.978467/

my question is how to bring back the monarch point storage system from 1.18.
back then i could just edit power_max to be 99999999 and the points would stay, now if i edit it to a number, the max i get is that number, but after spending even 1 point, it all goes back to 999 limit.

All those Conquer "xyz" missions where the requirements are "Owned by [Player Nation]"... can you satisfy them if you own them via your vassals or do you have to annex?
I'm pretty sure you have to conquer the land - I remember taking these missions for the claim and then vassalising the country and the mission didn't complete, only when I integrated it did the completion fire

You can fulfill the mission by taking the land in the peace deal, then giving it to your vassal. You won't complete it if you give it to your vassal in the peace deal.

Changing the game will make it so you no longer can play in Ironman mode and can't do achievments.
So you need to to the changes as a mod to not stop that.

There might even be mods on steam that enables PUs and marriages between religions. Don't know if it
works for latest version though.

So, yes. I bought Mare Nostrum. I will have to see how all the naval missions work, but I already noticed that my fleet promptly left to block of Picardie when I gave them the mission to blockade the enemy, gleefully forgetting to remain in the Coast of Holland region, where they would block Flanders and Gent and Antwerp. So, my first experience with the blockade feature isn't that great, tbh. But the repair ship option is very nice.

Still, I now have the lovely situation where Gelre joined the Lubeck trade league, Utrecht jonied the Genoese trade league, and Friesland joined the Venetian trade League. Is there any way to mess these trade leagues up without going to war? I mean, Utrecht joined the weakest one, but also allied England, so no go there, but Friesland didn't make any other allies. I'd like to get them out of the league, if possible. What is a good way to deal with Trade Leagues then, if your intent is to conquer one of the members?

The trade league will be automatically disbanded if the leader drops below -50 prestige. If you can manage to drag the leader into a war as a secondary participant and hit it with a prestige-sapping separate peace, then that's ideal. Alternatively, you can usually just wait. It's normally not too long until Venice gets dragged into a war with Austria or the Ottomans and takes the prestige hit without you doing anything. They will usually reform at least part of the league once they recover their prestige, but you can strike in the meantime.

As an alternative, only OPMs are eligible to be members of a trade league (not including the leader). If a member gains a second province, it automatically leaves the league. This isn't usually terribly useful, but on rare occasions, it can be a useful trick for kicking someone out of a league by giving them territory (eg, via a "return core" peace deal).

I declared war on Scotland, and immediately England dogpiled onto Scotland in a separate war. I vassalised Scotland, but this didn't drag me into a war with England. England then peaced out Scotland for the loss of two Scottish provinces. Has anyone seen this before? I thought all situations where you vassalised someone would drag you into their defensive war? England's was a war of subjugation, if that makes any difference?

If you were already in a war where England was a participant on either side, you cannot be called in when you vassalize Scotland. If so, it makes perfect sense; otherwise, it's bugged. The casus belli does not affect anything.

Hi,

Quick save editing question

Sorry if this is answered else where but it didn't come up in my search.
How do I edit provinces in the save editor to add them to the HRE. I've edited the line on the ones in question to say "hre=yes" but the still show up in game as not being a part of it.

Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks
DO

Hello,

Bought Rights of Man now as well. Tried to start a new game, but when I asked support for independence from Burgundy, at some point, Burgundy just automatically disbanded my PU with them. Spontaneously. Is this WAD? I have to assume so, since this is definitely new. Also, the ruler seems to have traits that make him want to avoid wars, might that be the issue here? If so, can it be avoided by waiting for this ruler to die, and then ask for support when the consort or heir starts to rule?

I'm not entirely happy with this way of dissolving the PU though. Even if it saves me a costly war, and also gives me a fair bit of legitimacy, it also immediately puts me in a very vulnerable position, since I have no alliances whatshowever at that point. Another thint I do not like is that the war for independence against Burgundy nets me Antwerp as a province, which is a really good province to get...
