Did the vassal pick Aristocratic ideas and increase their core cost? This will increase vassal integration cost.

Did your diplomatic reputation decrease? Did one of you change culture and/or religion? These will increase the time it takes.

He may have finished some cores with the +50% cost in Africa (don't remember the name). I thought he did it a long time ago but I'm not sure so it must be that, thank you

Any increase in their development will increase your annexation cost as well. If you fed them provinces or they gained additional state slots and upgraded territory cores to state cores it would increase the annexation cost.

When a requirement says you have to own a region, do you have to directly own it, or can a vassal own it?
I'm currently trying to get the Mare Nostrum achievement:
c87553aa-2130-4082-81a9-f81124f92cdc
3plvDRY.jpg

Croatia, Serbia, Greece and Syria are my vassals. I initially planned to also release Bulgaria and Iraq (which I already could) and maybe Crimea to feed them the needed land.
However, if I have to annex them, I may not have enough time to annex them all (especially as I'm constantly at war, and can't start the annexation process)...

Hi, I'm currently playing a golden horde game in which I vassalized perm. They took religious ideas so I figured it would be a good idea to force them to Sunni then have them start converting all the Russia Orthodox land I fees them. When I first did it. They immediately started converting two provinces, but after that they have not done any converting. They have plenty of positive income. Any ideas? If I can't get them to convert all the Orthodox land it kind of puts a wrench in the current strategy I was employing.

Was there something in recent patches to make PUs more likely? One of the games I'm playing Denmark has added Bavaria to the Kalmar PUs, and Castille, in addition to the Iberian Wedding has added England, in addition to having Naples still tacked on. It just feels like I'm encountering more of them, and I'm not even responsible for any of it!

I think it's a consequence of the disinherit feature.

Can anyone answer this???
I don't know for sure but you can perform covert actions in subjects so I presume the passive benefits are also present. If not it seems like an oversight.

When a requirement says you have to own a region, do you have to directly own it, or can a vassal own it?
I'm currently trying to get the Mare Nostrum achievement:

It depends on the achievement but usually if a subject owning it is enough the achievement text says so. For Mare Nostrum you have to directly own everything.

You can mouse over the requirements in the in-game achievement tracker to see the specific items needed.

So, I started over again as Holland, in ironman mode. Now I intend to go reformed as soon as it springs... It looks like a mechanic I could get behind.

I would like to tell you what happened so far, but this is not really the thread to do so, so I'll instead roll over to my questions.
My current ruler is 4/4/4 (Holland, from the house of Növerich. (never had one of those before!) The first heir was 0/4/2, but he got sick. I was asked to pray, but I guess I didn't have his well being in mind, since the poor kid croaked... and I rejoiced. He was immediately replaced by a better female heir, Katerina (5/2/4). I currently have administrative ideas, but due to going to +3 stab from -1 and some coring, I have yet to find the monarch points to invest in ideas. My question is, what would be a good second ideagroup? Can't pick another administrative, and with 2 diplo power I reckon Trade or Exploration isn't the best option either, even if I'll wheedle with my nobles for a nice +2 adviser half price, Then again, I don't have vassals, so I don't need the diplo points to annex them. Would one of those two still be advisable? And if not, and I should go for Military, what ideagroup should I go for? Offensive? Quantity?

Second questions has more immediate impact on gameplay. Currently, I am allied with the emperor, Austria. They are a Rival of Burgundy (hence my alliance, they supported my independence). Having just conquered and cored East Frisia and Oldenburg (and made that a state), Bremen seems a logical target(they are also in the state Weser, after all), but the emperor would come to their aid since they are a Free City, of course. What I'm thinking of doing is wait for Austria to owe me 10 favors, use them to call them into a war against Burgundy, and then immediately attack Bremen, conquer it, and core it as soon as possible.

I suspect(but am not sure) that Austria can't come to their aid, since they are already involved in a war with me as a war ally(if I understand those dynamics correctly). But suppose I win the war against Burgundy after I win against Bremen (that should be easy to pull off), but before I have it cored? Would Austria react?

Finally, my short term ally Brunswick, who I recently made my rival, decided, about 10 years after annexing Verden, to really push the envelope and annex most of Münster (initially all, but they returned one province), and one province of Cologne as well. And now there's a coalition against them. Given that Brünswick now borders my country, and they took a province I had staked a claim on (Osnabrugge), I sort of wish to join that league. How would I go about doing that? I have no clue :(

go to diplomatic screen of Brunswick, and click join coalition.

pro tip: try to vassalise Münster first is possible. Then fire coalition war to give all Münster cores back to your vassal. you can't ask for claims in coalition war anymore.

influence or diplo? Usually going for military group early on is bad idea as you hneed the points to tech military up. Only take military ideas once you are getting 'ahead of time' +tech cost for military. What military idea to pick first depends on your campaign goals.

if you get 25% warscore on Bremen, Austria can't be called in, even after you finish Burgundy war. No, they can't protect Bremen while they help you in other war.

Wow. A reply this quick, and then also from mr. Atwix. I am slowly digesting your Three Mountains Achievement thread. That is so amazing... Funny though, in retropsect, to see you rant of against the changes in patch 1.10 and say: "I might retire after this campaign", but then see 4 more AAR's in your signature with higher patch numbers :p
Glad you didn't retire though. It makes for fun reading!

Anyway, I found out that I can't join the coalition, on account of me not being on 50 AoE (prolly due to them being my ally first), and also, for being in a truce due to breaking alliance. Still, I already started a war against Munster, since I had a claim on THAT province (Meppen) as well... and they allied with Bremen. I'll take nothing from Bremen, but make them kick their allies (Hamburg, Lubeck and Riga, all annoying). I'll keep the pro tip in mind though. Vassalizing Münster might be fun, never really played around with Vassals before.

Since I like to only go to war with tech lead, to conserve my manpower as much as possible (frail as heck!) I'm already there (that is, ahead on the tech curve for military). Still, point taken. I'll need some military points to stamp out those stupid rebellions that keep rising due to weak legitimacy, but there's little to be done about that. So, I'll go diplo. But, not trade or exploration you say? Exploration I can see, since it's fairly early and my position for reaching overseas is pretty poor. But I always thought Trade was good, since it will give me a good money base to run a merc army on (fueled by administrative). And I am a strong merchant nation, right next to one of the End Nodes in Europe, right? But I'll definitely consider it, I might want a shot at becoming HRE emperor (and therefore remain in HRE when I form Netherlands)

if you get 25% warscore on Bremen, Austria can't be called in, even after you finish Burgundy war. No, they can't protect Bremen while they help you in other war.

Ok, that's good to know, but won't there be other negative consequences then? Will Austria take a negative modifier to my reputation, for me taking one of their Free Trade Cities?

Thanks again for the swift reply!

Nope. War-wise, the only affects for free cities are that the Emperor gets called to defend them, and a stab-hit if they declare war on them themselves. Other than that, they work as normal.

There probably should be some consequences for annexing a free city, but currently there are not.

What I'm thinking of doing is wait for Austria to owe me 10 favors, use them to call them into a war against Burgundy, and then immediately attack Bremen, conquer it, and core it as soon as possible.
Last time I checked (i.e. last time I tried), it was not possible to declare war on an Imperial prince while you were in a war in which the Emperor was involved.
Anyway, I found out that I can't join the coalition, on account of me not being on 50 AoE (prolly due to them being my ally first)
That would be why-allies take 67% AE.

pffrt.. they likely patched that to remove said trick I advised.

Funny though, in retropsect, to see you rant of against the changes in patch 1.10 and say: "I might retire after this campaign", but then see 4 more AAR's in your signature with higher patch numbers :p
Glad you didn't retire though. It makes for fun reading!

read all AAR then ;)

The Ryukyu one is old, and many of the tricks there are obsolete, but it is still a really 'weird' AAR to read. The stuff I pulled in it was kind of funny.

I was ranting against the changes out of sheer unknowingness of patch 1.10 and being conservative.

Looking back, I should have applauded the changes.

Still, the old days of pre art of war in 1.6 was sometimes more fun then latest patches.

That said glad carpet sieging and obligatory micro for looting is out.

Thanks for all the advice guys!
@Republic of Mercury. Sounds about right, but if that were to happen, no one would mess with the Free cities at all I reckon... Might be nice (for the emperor too!) to have the occasional spat around a Free City, right? Still, I am very happy with there not being consequences,

but what I'm not happy with, and should have known,

was that @Threshold: I should have remembered I can't go to war by myself with another HRE member when I am warring with the Emperor. It makes sense, though, but grrr.
I want Bremen. So my only options are to attack one of their allies, and make them co-belligerent I reckon(and have a ton of AoE too prolly, for taking a high value province without Casus Belli?), or to ally them for a war against Brunswick, and then assign them some territory they have a strategic interest in, and hope they'll accept it and lose Free City status?

@atwix. I will read all of it :) No worries, right now you are working your PU magic in Europe, and are going for Muscovy next. Still cracks me up, a Ryukyu von Habsburg... :)
But to come back to my question earlier, you advise against Trade ideas?
