I think the LA system is good it just needs some tweaking. Personally I'd have a global LA reduction budget that gets divided over all your provinces. So if you are integrating one province you get it reducing quickly (it makes sense yes? If you only have one province to focus on it will be easier). If you go full France and integrate half of Germany then your global budget gets diluted across the new provinces.

The main reason for this change would be to stop hammering the smaller nations. An OPM taking some land is basically no more powerful at all for a century. Yet in the real world the struggles with local autonomy only really affected the larger far flung empires.

All you people who are posting just to say that you don't have any problems on your pc - please stop. In what way do you imagine this is helpful? I know exactly what the author of this thread is talking about - and it's not going to be helped by a patch which is intended to deal with compressed saves, or by reinstalling windows, or by any other helpful suggestion in this thread. Please just accept that some people have noticed a severe decline in performance - particularly when moving around the map while the game is running. Speaking for myself (and only myself) I now have to pause the game before attempting any such movements - and even this (pausing) is no longer immediate - which can be extremely annoying in a battle. For the record I am running windows 8.1 on an Asus with 8gb RAM, Geforce 720M, i5 processor. I am not delusional, or lying, but am seriously considering reverting back to the previous version - if someone can tell me how this is done.

For you people talking about the framerate and stuttering problem; I don't care that your machine is worse than mine. I have a good PC that can run BF4 and Crysis 3 on high at 60 FPS, yet I run EUIV at 20-30. It makes absolutely no sense. I ask for people who are mentally commentate in PC hardware/software to please respond to my problem and help me out. Thank you.

I've the same problem i7 4770, 16GB Ram and a GTX 570 (the actual GPU is faulty). Normally I could play at speed 5 any time without lags or stuttering and now... always the same amount of stuttering in the game. It's really bad.

It's weird how it affects some people but not others

Have you updated the nVidia drivers ? You basically play with an upgraded version of my notebook (Win 8.1 Asus, 4 gb RAM, Geforce 720M, i3) and it works without problems.

Funny. I think this is the best iteration of EU4 ever, by a wide margin.

I would like to argue that one way or another.

But I can't stand trying to go past 1500 because the game doesn't work properly...same performance issue that seems to be common here.

For those of us who can't actually play it, 1.8 is easily the worst iteration since release. The most important part of a game is being able to play it, and right now a lot of us can't play the most recent version decently.

EUIV is exponentially more CPU intensive than any FPS can every be. If your CPU is not the bottleneck then what might help is faster RAM, an SSD or RAMDISK and obviously your game settings.

Decent i5 and i7 processors might bottleneck as long as someone has a passable graphics card and 8 GB or more RAM, but they shouldn't be "too slow" to run the game at speed 4.

I'm quite happy to try changing game settings - presumably you mean video settings, but which ones, specifically?

Also - quite happy to revert back to previous version until these issues are sorted - is this possible? If so, how? Anybody?

Not only is EU IV ruined but playing 1.8 has left such a sour taste in my mouth that I've abandoned all modern strategy games. The only one I play now is my copy of Civilization II Multiplayer Gold Edition on an old PC I bought at a Value Village. Unfortunately being a very old PC, it makes a burning smell while on, and once even started a small fire in my apartment that claimed the life of my pet parakeet before I was able to get it under control with a fire extinguisher. As you can imagine, my neighbours were not happy and my landlord wants to have a sit-down discussion about what happened. However, I'm happy to say that my Civ II PC survived the fire, and it's so so worth it for the beautiful 16-bit colour graphics and the thrill you get of setting up a trade route via guiding a gems caravan to a foreign city on the opposite side of the map. Old games are the best.

Until they fix the issue with high end PCs, this game is indeed fairly difficult to play. I've been forcing myself to play it while watching TV and cleaning dishes. Needless to say, it can't be played as seriously as it has been before.

Oooh you can run it at 4, you lucky beast

No, it'll flicker too slow. I can hold speed 3 but only after the hotfix. I mean, it'll LET me set it to 4 or 5, and 4 does run faster than 3 to an extent. Actually due to the stuttering effect and the game running faster while it isn't stuttering, technically 5 is still faster than 4.

But none of it is fast. I can't make it 50 years before I'm no longer materially faster than speed 3.

I love the new unrest/autonomy system. I think there should be more cliffs than just the distant overseas/colonial one. Unaccepted cultures, different religious group, different religion, HRE owned by non-HRE, non-core, etc. should all add +10 minimum autonomy, each. So most of the balkans would be 30 minimum autonomy for the turks, but 20 in greece. France's german lutheran conquests would be minimum 40 autonomy, but revolutionary government might be -20 minimum.

In this way large pluralist cosmopolitan empires would have a sustained administrative penalty to their acquisitions. It could also give you a permanent reason to maintain vassals for economic reasons. Some ideas could give -5 minimum autonomy on owned provinces and/or +5 minimum autonomy on others owning your cores. Conquest of Jerusalem should give -5 minimum autonomy on Islamic and Christian provinces, Mecca -5 on Islamic, Rome -5 on Christian, and Pentarchy -10 on Christian.

And they should use that idea of sinking diplomatic points into accepting a culture rather than converting provinces to your culture. Like every 25 points you spend gets you 0.5% reduced % of base tax you need to core to accept it. So I spend 250 points, I get -5% needed down to 15% from base 20%. Lower the floor on cultures becoming unaccepted (set to 0.02 from 0.10). Unions should have a -50% needed to accept same culture group, but shouldn't auto-accept it, so it'd be 10% needed to accept right off the bat, and they can spend diplomatic points the same as everyone else.

Lowering the floor also lets you make accepting cultures a thing that happens in decisions/events that rarely go away. The english can accept welsh and not be worried about losing it, the polish-lithuanian commonwealth virtually never accepts lithuanian, but could get that in the decision to inherit lithuania. But since it's 2% and not 0% (like in some mods) you won't see the english still accepting norman and gascon in 1821 unless they somehow still core them.
