EUIV Converter only for use with Steam based CK2?

I am wondering if The reason free CK2 is being a pre-order Gift is that the Converter only works with Steam based CK2. The reason I ask is that I already have a Steam version....(since taken off computer) and a Gamersgate Version of the Game with ALL DLC except Sunset Invasion.

The reason I ask is that will I have to reactivate the Steam Copy and Rebuy ALL of those DLC's.

The reason I have a Steam copy of the game is I preordered a CD-ROM of CK2........I'm old fashioned.

The reason I like the GG version of the game is that it is less invasive than Steam.....but I reactivated Steam in general for EUIV. (Since I have no choice)


I really don't want to HAVE to buy all the DLC's again just to use the item.

I'm pretty sure Johan said something about it working for CK on GG, even though it'd be a bother for them.

(I'd be hugely disappointed otherwise, as I really don't have the cash to buy the entire thing from steam again.)

That doesn't help for DLC though (at least if you were playing as a pagan/republic/Muslim).

That said I don't know why it wouldn't work with any saved game.

It does though - You don't need to have the DLC to convert the savegame.

@stilgarpl :I already have a Steam CK2(CD-ROM)........just don't want to buy ALL the DLC again....and I have a free CK2 to gift......and NO "Friends" on Steam........

Johan said he would be pissed off if he had bought it from GG and not be able to get a converter. So I'm pretty sure they will make it for us GamersGaters too I always used to buy paradox games from GG so I also bought CK2 there last year. I have been waiting for great converter tools for ages and yes I would be pissed off as well if I had to pay for DLC's again on steam to be able to convert CK2 saves to EUIV mods... I'll probably only play mods, I love parallel universes

I'm on Steam as well, I use both services but I actually wished I had CK2 with all my DLC's on steam now. Never saw it coming that paradox would use Steam as the main platform. Steam sure has convinced a lot of traditional game developers with the steam workshop !

Only dev will be able to tell you if you will be able to have the DLC (distributed as part of EU4 bought on steam) used on the GG version.
For the free CK2, there are some website where you can give your game away. People get points to be able to select games and a dice determine who gets the game. Providing game allow you to participate in give away where the giver did put a minimum amount given to participate.

I'm just trying to Streamline my comps harddrive and where I get my games from for ease of use........not having to remember a BUNCH of Passwords and what not.


I wish a DEV would answer in this thread, because I'm sure I'm not the only forumite with this question.

Just select christian monarchy when loading the game. Unless there are none left

No, it has a special gamersgate version, incompatible with steam version (DLCs from one don't work in other)

It was suppose to be the FIRST Steam only game. Forum uproar caused Paradox to create a GG version. The sales numbers made it the LAST non Steam Only game.

I would just want to add, that I too would be pretty annoyed if I had to repurchase the DLC I just got. I would assume though that Johan wouldn't let the first official converter in ages cause problems in the public relations.

In my experience, using a password manager is one of the best things I've ever done. It's more secure -- and easier on the brain.

Why would you need to? Aren't save files the same for both GG and Steam?

AGAIN - Why would you need to? You're using it to convert a savegame - not to play as one of the DLC factions.

They are - The only reason why we're having this discussion at all is because Johan promised that owners of the GG version, wouldn't have to worry about converting their savegames.
