I own most Paradox games, and have been a fan of this series and other Paradox titles. However, I have only ever started up EUIV once since I bought it nearly a year ago. In my personal opinion, the combat felt far too hyper-realistic and difficult with seven hundred different little variables affecting every part of the battles. I'm not here to argue or attempt to discuss strategy, tactics, army compositions, land modifiers, etc.

I'd really love to start playing this game again, but the only way I see myself doing that is if I can find a mod that greatly simplifies this new system and stops allowing armies of 3000 to take on forces ten times as large because of some trivial circumstances.. I beg any of you to point me in the right direction and list some mods that can help make my gaming experience feel somewhat more reminiscent of previous EU titles and not some medieval combat simulator with political aspects..

Well, the biggest issue with wildly random battle outcomes was terrain and that's no longer an issue. You don't have to worry about whether your battle will take place in the 15% of the province that's farmland, the 60% that's mountainous, or the remaining 25% swamp. That alone great reduces variables of the combat experience.
