Greetings all!

The time has come for us to finally update our multiplayer technology to ensure a better tomorrow. We also managed to get a few other fixes into this 1.30.5 patch (full patchnotes below).
What does this mean? Europa Universalis IV will henceforth run with the Nakama multiplayer backend which will allow for our developers to focus more on developing game features and content, and working on bugfixes rather than maintaining our own complex multiplayer platform.
It also means that we will start supporting cross platform multiplayer games in the future, regardless of which platform you purchased EUIV on (The Microsoft version is still not updated so the feature is not yet available).
It also means that you will now be required to be logged in to your Paradox Account to access multiplayer games. If you log in to your account from the game launcher you will remain logged in and should not have to repeat the process.

Known Issues and workarounds
  • There are occasions of games going out of sync on the first tick of a new multiplayer campaign. Saving the game and rehosting it from that save file should allow you to continue normally after that. We’re working on a permanent fix for the problem.
  • Creating an account/logging in to your Paradox Account in-game will log you out if you restart the game.
    If you log in through the launcher before starting the game this should not be an issue.
    We are working on this problem as well.
If you want to complete an ongoing save from before the patch, you should stay on 1.30.4 until you are ready to start a new game! Instructions on how to play on a previous version of the game can be found here!

  • Changed multiplayer backend for a unified multiplayer solution which will eventually allow for cross distribution platform MP games.
  • Interface: Removed the "Scan Lan" button in multiplayer. It just updated the games similarly to the scan internet button as lan games haven't been a thing for some years now.
  • Interface: Added so the paradox account button shows a hint of what account you're logged into.
  • Bugfixes: Fixed problem when reloading would cause you to get Rev. Rev. Rev in some colonials names.
  • Interface: Increased the warning for Agenda expiry to 3 years from 1 year.
  • Interface: Added scrollbar for estate privileges, allowing for more than 4 at once. However limit for player to add will still be 4.
  • Bugfixes: Fixed some issues with french localization
  • Bugfixes: Fixed a crash when starting game while missing your language configuration.
  • Bugfixes: Fixed bug where attached units would arrive one day off.
  • Interface: Fixed misalignment issues in the connect to game dialogue.
  • Bugfixes: Various OOS issues.
  • Bugfixes: Fixed so you can change your nickname in the matchmaking interface.
  • Bugfixes: Fixed not being able to join MP games through friends from the main frontend screen.
  • Bugfixes: Fixed crash for "King in Prussia" french localization.

Wouldn't it better to reintroduce the LAN modus instead of removing the button for it? It would be a really useful feature for a lot of people.
Its just a legacy button that has done nothing different since eu2

Does that mean that events (i.e. not the player directly) may add privileges beyond four (I'm primarily thinking of Polish events)?

so this'll break 1.30.4 saves?

You should always finish save games on the previous version as unexpected things are known to happen.

I've found a problem
I've hosted a game yesterday (as observer cause I could not participate) and I was not able to send any kind of message, global or whisper.

Could this be fixed?

That should be before the patch, so maybe Nakama sorted it for you?


Sooo, does that mean multiplayer games and lobbies are more stable now? Less issues with hotjoining and stuff?

That is the hope! But most importantly - the developers should be able to focus on more fun stuff

Sorry if you're experiencing problems after the update. Please note that 1.30.4 is still available in the betas tab if you prefer to rollback for now.

The "32 player cap" is purely a UI issue and you should still be able to host bigger games! - we are working on a fix for this.

Please report any problems you're having in the bug report forum and provide as much information as possible for the issue - including steps on how to preproduce. Also make one thread per issue please.

Thank you for helping out - and our sincere apologies for any negative impact on your playing experience.

Why don't you just rollback this complete disaster of a patch, its a catastrophic failure please take the slightest bit of responsibility. What do you want me to tell you, it's a bucket of shit, you can't call it anything else, and it might be time to invest something into the workers, I guess paradox turned slightly psychopatic and cut down on the labourers, the A team has clearly left the building, shit we're not even left with the D team. I hope the profit margins become fantastic though and paradox employes enjoy being expendable and undercut, but I wouldnt touch your stock, everything has a breaking point.

As mentioned before - rollbacks are easily done by going into properties -> BETAS -> pick 1.30.4 in the dropdown list in Steam.

Yeah I mean, I can't imagine how upsetting it must be to put hours upon hours, days and weeks into an achievement run and then have it go bust because Paradox are too lazy to do some kind of warning system.

Shows complete disregard for their customers imo.

It is unfortunate. The patch notes do state that you should not update if you want to finish off an old save first, and the regular load game menu in-game does warn you if you try to load an old save. Unfortunately there's a slipup on our part allowing the continue button in the launcher to bypass the version check. We are looking into remedying this situation as soon as possible.
