EUIII Collectors Edition and Target (USA)?

I can't even buy neither a regular EU3 nor another p'dox game.Just have to order it from p'dox shop or gamerstgate.I'll download it from gamersgate when my connection returns to normal(it sux now.256 kbit/s(normal= 1 Mbit/s),i don't know why it is that slow,it is since last friday)

I probably should know better, but I'm going to stop by my local SuperTarget in the next hour or so to see if they might've miraculously done a better job than has been reported here thus far. I doubt that they will.

Also -- I seem to recall reading in the press release about the "exclusive CE deal" that the CE would also be available on target.com -- it's not currently.

Oh well -- I'll probably end up using gamersgate.

Thank you OHgamer and King. As usual I am immensely impressed with the customer service that Paradox provides for its customers. This response and the 1.1 patch release on Initial release day of your product is practically a one of a kind thing in the industry.

If there was an award out there for "Best Customer relations in a supporting role" (see the double entendre there) Paradox should win the golden rifle (my version of the golden globes)

Also makes me want to send my resume to Paradox (i am a programmer and application designer)......

If you have DSL here is what you can try.

Turn off your modem for like 10 seconds then turn it back on. If you have a router as well do the same thing. What happens sometimes is a hung up on the line or something like that. Happens to me every once in a while.

And if you have a wireless router and you are on a wireless connections try switching the channels, 1, 6 and 12 are good ones.

If you have Cable I have no idea.

The Target.com website can't even locate the product. Nothing up on it at all. And contrary to what some here are willing to give as a "pass" to Paradox on the issue, I cannot believe that they are unaware of the situation in one of the biggest markets in the world for PC games. <sigh>

I guess I'll go to class today after all.

You cannot blame Paradox for the internal workings of another company (in this case Target).

I will however give them "a pass" on how they are handling the situation as it is being communicated with them.

I don't like not having the game available to me in the store that I went to this morning (and I cannot download because i don't have "stellar" credit here in the US) but i do not blame Paradox for not shipping to the stores (or whatever problem may actually be happening).

So I will patiently wait for the game to become available when it does.

So to semi quote someone very important at Paradox.

Well I preordered mine from the local Gamestop. No problems there, so my suggestion would be to go to an EBgames or Gamestop (same company pretty much).

The issue is not the normal version of EU3 - that is going to be sold in all the major chains. If you only want the regular edition of EU3 go to your local EB, Gamestop etc and it will more than likely be there today.

the issue is with the Collectors Edition, which is being exclusively distributed by Target in the USA. Everyone (including I would guess Paradox) was expecting that this would mean that all branches of Target would be carrying the Collectors Edition. But for whatever reason, Target in its infinite (lack of) wisdom has decided to ONLY stock the title in its Super Target stores, and apparently NOT at regular Target outlets.

So the only way to purchase the Collectors Edition in the USA is from the limited number of Super Targets in the USA - and I do mean limited. Ohio does not have any of them, and we're the 7th largest state in the country!

US players can still order the Collectors Edition from Paradox directly, but I was quite hopeful that the Target distribution deal would be a great way to get more exposure for Paradox to the American masses. That, apparently, has not been the decision Target has made, and again Paradox is the victim of the shortcomings of distribution by the responsible agents they have contracted with in the USA.

Bottom line : normal copies of EU3 should be no problem to get from your local game store anywhere in the USA, but the Collectors Edition is currently in a distributor limbo in the USA, something Paradox can not have expected or desired.

Yeah well, good luck with that one. I went to an EB Games and a Gamestop (here in Denver, CO) and they both told me the same thing: "Well, if you put down $5, we'll get it in here for you, but we probably won't get any copies of the game here in the store otherwise".

Seems typical of game stores in the console gaming era, but I was irritated nonetheless.

Also: I went by my local Super Target and they didn't have any in stock. The guy said that they'll often receive FedEx shipments during the day that aren't part of the regular shipment, so that I should check back...

But I'm probably just going to go "softcopy" through gamersgate.

I can tell you here in the seattle metropolitan area there are about 25 target stores (the map was basically a sea of red if you zoomed out to like 12 miles or whatever), but there is not a single super target here in the state of washington.

Further, I can't really order the CE from paradox directly because I live in an apartment with a ridiculously small mailbox, and anything thats too big gets sent back to the post office. Sometimes they will be kind enough to hold onto it and let me know I have a package, but several times they just return to sender (this happened to me with several christmas packages...).

Hmm postmen are supposed to leave package delivery notifications so you can pick the packages up at the PO, not send them back to sender. I'd file a complaint with your local PO if that is what happened, because it shouldn't according to the Postal rules.

Anyways, I've gone ahead and ordered via paradoxshop, even if Target does put the CE on internet (I hope they do, since their distribution otherwise is apparently going to be very limited) I'm so hocked off at Target for screwing this distribution up I'll be damned if I give them any of my money. Ever.

Plus shipping from Sweden is only US$8.00 (for a total cost of US$57.99 as the CE is US$49.99 via paradoxshop which I believe is what Target was going to retail it for), so in the end it will only cost a couple more dollars to have it shipped from Sweden than to have it shipped from the Target distribution center.

And its a little bit more profit for Paradox so all the better.

I'm definitely holding out hope that regular targets will be receiving them too and that kid had no idea what he was talking about. I checked my Target a little over an hour ago and they had nothing. I also couldn't find an employee who had any idea about PC games. Then I stopped by the EB games(I was distraught and was willing to settle for the regular edition) which is next door and they also did not yet have it in. Now I'm hoping this thread bears some fruit because I keep debating whether or not to just break down and buy it off gamersgate. Oh well, busy couple of days for me anyways, probably best I don't have it yet.

Just get it from gamersgate, thats what I did. Even though I can't play untill I get home from work, but I wanted the hat.

Also I do want to get the Strategy Guide as i last played EU1 and even then i was not really that good.

well from the reports that have come in, it seems that even the Super Targets have not received the product yet, never mind the regular Target branches which seem to have no inkling that the product even exists. Nor has Target deigned to put up (at least up to this point) a listing on its website to order that way. And to not be able to provide any guidance to their stores to be able to assist customers looking for the product they are supposed to have, and as the exclusive retailers of that product, the only place in the USA to purchase the good, is the final nail. Seriously, to not have any idea if they expect the product to be shipping in, or which branches will be getting the product - what kind of inventory management system are they running???

Any way one wants to look at it, Target has apparently severely screwed up this distribution, and for one of the largest retailers in the USA to be that incompetent with a product that they have an exclusive deal to distribute is just bad business practice.

I sincerely hope Target does get its act together and I hope Susana has given the people at Target she is dealing with (likely McDicktwit's uncle, given the way things seem to have evolved) an earful of invective for this screwup. But they've (Target) lost me as a customer for the far forseeable future.

Guys, I was just checking to see if the game possibly was out today as in

"On store shelves"

But alas it looks like it is truly "shipping" today.

My guess is everyone will find what the need "on store shelves" tommorrow or thursday at the latest. Possibly later tonight as well if some stores get the shipment today. The guy at EBGames told me very clearly that they would be getting the game thursday as they get shipments tuesday and thursday and the inventory is listing 1/24 as its release.

Anywyas I can't even remember the last time that I haven't had to add 1-2 days to the "it ships on" date when that news is released. I see no difference here either.

Two main problems.

1) Paradox (and for that matter all game companies) need to be very explicit in their press releases to say.

"The game is shipping on X date, expect it on store shelves within a few days from this date".

2) Target - main problem i see is that there is no listing on their website and from the posts in their inventory either, regardless of if they get the game on shelves later tonight or within a day or two it needs to have a inventory number and be in their system and on their website, this is obviously a huge oversight on their part.

just got back from my "local" target greatlands. and people are right, they only have the CE at Target Super Stores.
and guess what?
there aren't any in massachusetts. not for 100 miles!
so I'm ordering the CE from paradox's website.
