Get Victoria and Crown of the North (EU2 + english version of Svea Rike III + goodies). Victoria has just so many new things, EU2 seems so obsolete. You do not just sit around during peace time.

I'd have to say EU2, though not because I have anything against Vicky.

Ideally though get both.

Victoria is a beautiful game, slick engine, amazingly thorough domestic system (trade, politics, population) with EU style diplomatic options (except a few more) and HoI style battles. Suffice it to say it really makes me hot for EUIII (don't listen to Mettermrck.. it MUST exist.. right Sonny? :D )

It is for me more stable then the latest EU and HoI patches which says an awful lot but it really isn't balanced yet. EU has years of tender love and care, great mods, and what is quite arguably a more intresting and expansive time period. I have nothing against 1835 and nothing for 1492 but it does feel more constrained with all those big powers (which I suppose is the point). As for MP I'm not even sure how you'd do it.. even the manual tells you to pause before fiddling with certain things. Clearly EU2 is the winner here.

So.... Buy Victoria, because thats the way to get me EUIII :D I do believe it will also one day be a far superior game. As of today? Well.. I'd get Crown of the North as well, EU is still the king and this way you get a gift on the side.

So, what do you guys who played both of them think? EUII or Victoria?

The answer is clear, Victoria is buggy and in need of several patches just like the rest. So wait a year and get both in the bargain bin section for $7.99 ea. ;) I got EUII for $7.99 recently patched and working nicely. Why pay $50 for a busted game that will only be patched over time and time again to finally make it balanced and playable. ;) If you've waited this long without getting EUII, you can wait a little longer and save yourself about $40 and one can do a lot with $40.

Don't wait. When you get it for $7.99 a year from now, you'll wish you'd spent the extra bucks and been playing it for all that time. Buy Victoria now.

Why waste a year not enjoying Victoria? It is a very playable game and Johan just announced that 1.02 should be out next week. And he even mentions some of the things it will fix. :)

What do the words 'buggy' and 'broken' mean to you exactly Raginhood because they seem to mean something quite a bit different to me! Buggy? Victoria is on all of my computers easily the most stable of the bunch. Broken? I'm going to just assume you never played HoIv1.00 as I can make it through a GC in Vicky no sweat. Busted? Hahahahha! It's imbalanced.. no question, needs a few patches to be great sure. But buggy it is not. Broken it is not. Perfect it also is not.

As for 'why not be a cheap sob and buy EU2 used and spend your gaming money elsewhere' well thats easy. When you pay 7.99 to some dork on ebay Paradox makes exaclty 0.00 of that, when you buy Victoria new from the store they make some money, put it towards patches, and the next great game. If you can find another gaming company that puts more effort and love into their games then Paradox maybe they are worth the $40 instead.. good luck with that. Of course we still disagree about wht a 'busted game' is.. I'm still of the impression that if I can load up play the whole thing, never CTD, and have a fun time doing it then it is indeed NOT busted.

This would be my solution
Theres not much reason not to get a copy of EU2 it really is cheap thesedays and it's timeless. If you can afford a new game this month (unlike Raginhood aparently  ) then make Vicky the one, it is a great game with a lot of promise. Sure it will be better in a few patches but it is easily playable as is and I can't think of a good reason to not support Paradox and not play Vicky over the year for the measly 10 bucks you might save.

niether buy Medal of Honor

just kidding I'm sure you can get both. For example when I needed to get Vicky I had $0 so i sold some of the games I never play. I ate less (saving up food money) and before I knew it I could buy Vicky.

If you absolutly can't get both I say go EUII. Vicky and HOI are always gunna be great games but EUII just is better. Its a classic.

In conclusion buy both

As of now, they're about equal. But Vicky is only in patch 1.01... a few updates and it will probably outclass EU2.

But you should really get both, of course. :)

Oh, Hell. It Doesn't Matter

I own EU, EU2, HoI, and Victoria.

I will own Crown of the North as soon as I can find it and Crusader Kings when it is released.

Paradox strategic sims are THE BEST! They're not perfect (yet) and patches fix the problems encountered.

NO other game engine comes so close to portraying the period it is intended to represent.

My 2 ducats/pounds -

If one of the main things you enjoyed about EU2 was being able to play hundreds of different nations, and you can only get one game, get EU2 back. There are only a few dozen nations in Victoria you can really do anything with, and most of them are in Europe - and that won't change even after a dozen patches. If that bothers you, you'll be disappointed in Victoria. The lack of variety is starting to bother me already.

But hey, I feel the same way about HOI, and you enjoy that one, so maybe you won't mind...

There is no doubt in my mind that EU2 is better than victoria.

And why is it so?

Victoria ought to be better with all the detail etc. (and i am the type that likes detail), but I simply do not know why! It would probably take a whole essay for me to write why I recommend Eu2 compared to Vicky, but the conclusion is made ought of one single resume of all these things: The amount of time used on one of these games. I have played a few vikcy games, but then it tires me. EU2 I have played for years, and it is still exiting.

Dunno why, but EU2 has SO much more play time that Vicky!!!

And to those people who dont see the bugs in Vic.

What about the WM?

What about the infinite supply of money?

What about the infinite demand of products?

What about the humongous armies?

Read the where does the money come from thread to get the whole picture.

Sorry I disagree with you but the TOTAL WAR engine beats the PARADOX engine hands down, for "tutorial" "informative manual" "user interface", "historical accuracy", "strategy", "gameplay", "combat system unmatched". The combat system in all Paradox games are laughable. HOI being the most laughable game of them all when one can take a minor like Brazil and rule the world! lol When I'm going to put that many "hours" into a game and lets face it all these Paradox games take hours, days, even weeks to play, I want to have FUN and ENJOY the trip. I had Victoria for 6 days, and the trip was far from enjoyable out of the box. Rating 6.7, I think the professional reviewer average is right-on on this one. ;) I wouldn't expect anything less than 10's from fan(atics). ;)
