So, yeah, late game slowdown has been an inevitable problem since the dawn of the EU series. But after getting a new, much more powerful PC, I'm having the same issue. The strange thing is, the PC is using below 25% is maximum available memory, CPU, etc. This is despite the fact the game sometimes close to only 1 FPS.

Is there a reason EU4 won't take advantage of the available resources? I recall that back in EU3 there was a "fix" that let the game consume more than its default 2GB (or was it 4GB?) memory cap. Does EU4 have anything like this?

Also, any other tips for improving game play? I've already tried the old fashioned "disable fancy graphical settings" options.

There's no reason to think that using more system memory would make the game run faster. Once you have enough memory that the game wants, more does not help at all. From that point speed depends on CPU and GPU power, pretty much exclusively.

You are thinking of ck2.exe having to be made LAA-aware; this is no longer required for it, and has never been required for EU4.

The other related matter is whether you have 32bit Windows; it will limit any app to 2gb memory. If you have 64bit Windows none of this applies, EU4 can use as much memory as it needs.
