EU4 is running a mod or is altered in other ways. Achievements will be disabled.

This message now prevents me from play; I only play Ironman mode and have several games up on the cloud in which I alternate through however I now can not load any of them.

I was running two mods and all the DLC that came with the pre-order package. The two mods did not effect the checksum.

I have in attempt to rectify this:

-Turned off both mods
-Turned off mods AND the DLC's
-Check version of game via the launcher (message reads: game is up to date)
-Verify STEAM cache integrity.
-Attempted to start a new game in Ironman mode. I can not as when the game loads it allows cheats thus; no Ironman.

I have also done a PC reboot after all this; still no effect.

Was their a patch that I (and apparently STEAM) don't know about? The game was running fine the last time I played which was about 17 hours ago.

This is the checksum and version I have:
EU4 1.1.3 976f

any help would be very much appreciated; this sucks donkey. :-(

Try choosing another steam server, this has worked for me. Even i hadnt any mod installed.

There is a bug where if you play an Ironman game, save it, then do an in-game load of a non-Ironman game, it 'infects' the previous Ironman game and turns it non-Ironman. I think this is what you are describing.

Note that message is just trying to say the current game does not qualify for Achievements; either it's not Ironman or it wasn't started on the first date 11/11/1444 .

I have the same problem. It's not related to non-Ironman games, as I do not have any. I tried to chosing another server, restarting Steam, reloading, etc. It simply won't let me load my (Ironman) game. It happened before, and then it went away after a few attempts at restarting. No such luck this time, unfortunately. Very frustrating.

Please let me know if there's anything I can do to solve this, and if not, please have a look at this for your next patch.

OK, try this: go into your Documents EU4 folder and delete or rename gameplaysettings.txt . If that doesn't help, try doing that to the entire folder and let the game recreate it with default settings (obviously move any valued save games out of there first).

Thank you for the quick reply. Unfortunately neither one of these suggestions works. The same problem simply remains. It's not exactly the end of the world to play non-ironman games from now on, but I'd hate to lose my current game, which I put a lot of time into already. So, any other suggestions perhaps?

An update: I just reinstalled the whole game, and even that didn't help (?!). Sigh, no more cloud games for me, it just isn't worth the risk.

I didn't have chance to see if that worked for me also; however after a few hours it seems to have righted it's self anyway.

I'm having the same info line about me playing an edited game or mod, etc. I'm not playing Ironman, just plain normal difficulty. The funny thing is that a game tnata I had advanced quite a bit and then erased it gave me a lot of those achievement cards...¿?

Side question: Is there a thread on saving time (the time it takes to save a game). Some times (no apparent pattern) saving times, whether automatic or not might take over 20 times the regular time!!!!!!!

That's working as designed. Non-Ironman games do not qualify for achievements. That message is re-written to say that more clearly in the next patch.

same issue here: i only have one ironman mode savegame that i played only yesterday for a few hours. now it wont let me load the game because the game thinks it is been altered, but i have not touched anything in the game folder. (game says v 1.1.3 976f (checksum?))

Same issue here. I've been playing the game for 1 week and yesterday it started giving me the " EU4 is running a mod or is altered in other ways". Can anyone tell me with a high degree of certainty if it's a Steam Cloud problem or a EU4 bug?


LATER EDIT : Never mind, it started working again - seems to be a Steam issue - the game started working after Steam crashed and asked me for a Steam update.

In my case, Eu4 ALWAYS says that the first time, but when I close the game and open it again the message goes away. I'm sure Steam is already connected when I open the game so not sure why I have to double tap it.

Had the same issue, when steam updated the game plus i bought the new DLCs I started the game and multiplayer, ironman and achievements were grayed out. I totally erased the game, reinstalled but yet the same problem. Finally it was solved just closing steam, opening it againg and launching the game. So if you are having those kind of issues I recommend you to try that out: just restart steam after the update/dlcs install.
