When the king returned from his trip he was surprised to see that the economy and infrastructure of the empire was in perfedt shape. Therefore he could launch right into the border expansion project, abbreviated BEP. Unfortunately the foul Ottoman had taken advantage of the time of Russian inaction and had incorporated many of the innocent asian tribes with their islamic propaganda and so expansionable space was scarce. The king didn't hesitate however and made the process short with the few coutries left between the Russian and Ottoman empires. Sadly the king died during a siege, but this led to the ascension of the great queen Anna, the most beautiful and accomplished woman that had ever ruled Russia. Or simply the first.

Meanwhile the ottomans saw an opportunity to put a significant hurdle in the way of Russias expansion by claiming the vast Kazakh steppes as a protectorate. This made the only viable choice for expansion the Oirat Horde; a country so far from civilization that few has even heard the name. Their armies were weak however and a chunk of fertile land could soon be liberated close to what seemed to be the fabled east sea that queen Annas great grand father once dreamt of. Finally his vision of an empire stretching an entire continent had been fullfilled.

South of the Oirat Horde, the Russian diplomats were met by a strange people led by a family called Ming. What the dealings with this new people will bring only the future can tell.

The first part of the 17th centuary had seen The Brittish Empire Solidifying it's place as one of the most potent trade powers in the world. The influence wraught over the Asian waters was second to no European country, and the Brittish Isles where the envy of the mainland. Where people had risked starvation not 2 centuries earlier, they now risked getting pampered and weak, what with all the luxurious goods that flooded the Isles.

There was however a an issue that had been put aside during the conquests in the far east, and it was clear that it could be ignored no longer. The tales of Oppression and Maltreatment of the Danish people had acted a stormcloud onthe horizon on the Brittish Kings otherwise sunny mind. With the previous business on far shores, it was now time to confront more local problems. The Ruling Danes had squandered the great potential their lands held, and for the good of both the local Danish populace and the Brittish Empire, it was time to claim these mistreated shores.

The Danish had somehow mustered a Sizeable army, most likely in order to quell the threats of Swedish Secessionists and other rebels that must surely be festering below the allready blemished surface. However, the great warrior minds of Britain landed forces on both sides of Skagerak, and when the Danish army came to reinforce their precious capital, the vastly superior Brittish fleet trapped them on their acursed island. In the end, all of Jylland, and southern Norway flew the Union Jack, and the relief of the locals was palpable. Stand tall, oppressed Peasants of Denmark, your salvation nigh!

Closure in Africa

The early 17:th century was a period of economic growth in the Spanish Empire. The African liberation was coming to an end through the actions of first Francisco I and later his son Carlos I. Now only a small tribal territory in the deepest central Africa remain uncivilized, a matter that will soon be taken care of. In Europe the Italian states have unanimously voted for an inclusion in the great Spanish Empire and the generous king Carlos has seen fit to accept their request, only leaving some tiresome paperwork before it can be accomplished. King Carlos also realized the poor job his merchants and their predecessors have been doing despite the great Spanish presence throughout the new world. A royal investigation has been formally created to determine what has gone wrong and what could be done to strengthen the Spanish interest in trade all over the globe. In the new world the last parts of Spanish South America have been colonized and incorporated into the Spanish colonial states, which now leaves the colonial ships anchored in the harbor of Cadiz. The king has yet to decide what to do next but as most of the new world seem to have been claimed so far it is likely that they will be refitted into troop transports or merchant vessels.

As the first half of the 17th century came to a end the french king ruled over one of the greatest kingdoms in the world. The French armies had during the last decades succesfully fought wars on three different continents and the French fleet had won several naval battles fought on all the seven seas.

The French diplomats have also been able convince the French vassal state of Congo to fully join the great kingdom of France.

As the second half of the 17th century now about to begin the French king contemplates his next move, how should the expansion of the great kingdom of France continue?

Can't touch me!

As 1627 dawned the final war* against Bohemia was still young but Karl I, the Holy Roman Emperor, knew that it would most likely follow the same path as previous conflicts with Bohemia - and he was certainly correct: As the war dragged on the number of regular Austrian forces declined and numerous professionals had to be hired to fill out the ranks. The general tactic turned to striking where the enemy was weak and then retreating (usually failing to avoid the lightning fast main Bohemian forces and getting decimated in the process...). Eventually Venice, the one nation shameless enough to support the Bohemians, was persuaded to sign a peace treaty, enabling some slow progress to be made.

When Karl died at the end of 1634 Anton I inherited the war and fought doggedly on. In the end the conflict ended as they usually did: France got interested, distracted the enemy slightly and gave the Austrian forces the breathing space they needed to start pushing back. A peace was enforced as soon as possible and it was now possible to convince the princes to direct their energies to the real enemies of the Empire instead of each other by agreeing to the Ewiger Landfriede. Newer again will Bohemia be able to cause grief in the Empire!**

*Well, there might have been some minor conflicts where they turned out to be allied to an ally of the enemy of an ally or another of Austria, such things are always confusing...

**At least not through direct warfare - one can trust Bohemia to always find a way to make an nuisance of themselves!

AAR Portugal 8 The asian front
The year of our lord 1627

King Duarte II de avis King of Portugal continued his efforts in eastern asia.
Jaunpur, Nepal, Kachar and Tibet were all incorporated as protectorates of Portugal.

The Great northIndian kingdom of Malwa was attacked by the english from the south and the Ottoman Empire from the west.
Resulting in Ottomans claiming a few provinces for themselves and the rest of Malwa was made a Brittish protectorate.

Friendly relations and a prosperous tradingprogram was started with the giant in asia known as "The Ming" to the portuguese crown.
King Duarte II signed a proclamation to guarantee the independence of Ming.

The northafrican vassal of Fez was annexed while the smaller states of Tunisia and Tripoli was made vassalstates.

Around 1640 diplomats from the Ming family arrived in the Portuguese east asian Capital of Makassar. The Ming diplomats waved the procalation signed by King Duarte. Ming was under attack by the Kingdom of Russia.
The Portuguese governor saw it as clearly some kind of misstake since Russia was a mostly european nation and ming was in the far east.

Nevertheless an army was mobilized and shipped over to the Ming mainland.
The march northward begun shortly after.
To the generals surprise it was indeed the Russian that had invaded Mings northern border.
With Mings army in retreat and several provinces under siege. General Gonçalo de Marialva did not want to engage the main russian army without his reinforcement so he shipped his army over to the Korean peninsula.
And engaged one of two smalled russian army's at the battle of Pyongang.

A2pTHyJ.jpg

The battle was a Portuguese succes!
However the second russian support army had not been idle, just a few days later it arrived only to see that their first army was already retreating.
General Gonçalo de Marialva took the opportunty to attack the russians while still recovering from the harsh march and completly wiped it out.
q7wWBlY.jpg

Scouts returned after the second battle. The Main russian army was on the move!
General Gonçalo de Marialva fortified his position and remained calm since the asian transport navy should arrive shortly with fresh troops and supplies.
the battle begun without signs of the fresh troops.
The battled waged back and forth and the portuguese winded from the two previous battles made a sigh of relief when the portuguese navy approached!
General Gonçalo de Marialva gathered the army and prepared to push the Russians main host back north!
Admiral João Afonso Telo de Menezes however did not arrive with any reinforcement at all... For some reason unknown the Portuguese troops were still waiting in Indonesia since the navy had rushed out of harbor heading north.

General Gonçalo de Marialva was furious when he realised no new troops were unloaded by the navy, and retreated back towards Ming mainland with his winded troops.
The Russian did not follow and shortly after asked for peace.
After quick negotiation the Russians was forced to concede defeat.
Afterwards the Portuguese troops was forced back onto their ships without even time to treat their wounded or a thank you very much for your help.
Ming was clearly not thankful nor trustworthy!

Just a month after the portuguese troops arrived back in Indonesiaa diplomatic insult from Ming arrived.
5rcHIZb.jpg

King Duarte II raging by the insult, sent a declaration of war to Ming and orders to the Portuguese army once again to travel north into Ming territory, this time to burn and pillage!

King Duarte II de avis died in fever shortly after the declaration of war in the year of our lord 1648.
His son Sebastião took the throne after a coronation in New Lisboa he took the royal name: King Sebastião II de avis!

Finally allied with BOHEMIA!

As 1627 began the Commonwealth was well prepared for some aggressive expansion. First up was war against Hungary. Hungary had been depleted of soldiers in its war with Austria against Bohemia and the Polish soldiers began to cover the land like ants. An envoy from the Ottomans phrased it that Hungary was being carpet bombed by the Polish. The Ottoman began movement to invade a small part of Hungary as well and in the end Half of Hungary was easily annexed and assimilated.

Next was northern Germany where Lübeck was in focus. Austria as still in a prolonged war so Lübeck fell quickly into the Commonwealth. These two wars were cheap and the manpower of the commonwealth was boosted with military infrastructure.

As the time drew near the mid 17:th century, The Polish King Per decided to take the decisive step to help its close neighbour Bohemia against any further incursions with the aggressive Austrian Emperor. A close alliance was formed and Poland now looks west at what opportunities can be savoured with the aid of our beloved BOHEMIA!

Plan: Let there be war...
Then: Westernize when Commonwealth is sufficiently behind in technologies.

The world seems to get smaller: Despite the enormous size of the Russian empire there is now only five hostile countries left that shares a land border - Denmark, The Commonwealth, The Ottoman empire and its pawn Kazakh, The Oirat Horde and Ming. The expansion in the east continues by piecewise annexation of the Oirat Horde and steady colonisation by the far northeast border, but as Russian "diplomats" entered Ming to make some new claims there, they were met by a surprise: The portugese had cheated an taken the seaway to reach Ming from the south and now sent troops to "protect" Ming and "guarantee it's freedom". Due to a small faux pas by the Russian generals and the overwhelming number of chinese soldiers the king decided to sign a white peace and await a better opportunity - Ming had to realise how false and wicked the portugese really were sooner or later. And true enough, in 1648 Portugal declared war on the ill suspecting Ming. How Russia is to respond to this is still to be considered.

... and thus there was war

1650 began with the simple idea that the Commonwealth should grab and expand aggressively into the west. This was achieved with four wars with the Germans, Italians, Austrians and the devious French!

Per War One - Hungary and the Italians
Waiting for Austria do declare its first war, the Polish forces stood assembled along the Hungarian border. Once Austria went into Venice, Hungary was quickly carpet bombed and the Italians who sided with Hungary were dispersed. Spoils: half of remaning Hungary.

Per War Two - Austria
Austria Knew that it must fight to gain a foothold in northern Germany and many cudos must be given to the Austrian Emperor for the decision to advance into Polish Germany. However the Commonwealths manpower have grown substantially over the recent years and even though the Austrians were well equipped and ready to fight, they were far to few to face both Bohemia and the Commonwealth.

Spoils: Regain lost territory from Austria in northern Germany and one province from Saxony to Bohemia.

Per War Three - Germany, Austria and Hungary
Immediately after the peace treaty was signed, King Per invaded Brandenburg and a new war was started with the Germans, Austria and Hungary. This time the rest of Hungary except Pest was annexed. In the north, only the province of Brandenburg was annexed to complete a rounder geographical shape of Polish Germany.

Per War Four - Pest, Germany and the French!
Now there seemed to be no reason to stop. Hungary must cease its existence and war was declared on Pest without further adieu. However it is my suspicion that the French must have made guarantees to Pest or formed an alliance because suddenly the Commonwealth was at war with northern Germany and France. Classic surprise. However this final war is the war to end... this war. And the Commonwealth will do what it does best, stand its ground! At writing moment 150.000 Polish soldiers are advancing into the Saxon lines, and the French are ready with ~100.000 soldiers to aid them. Much fun to be had for everyone

The Liberation

The efforts in the far east were rounded up and completed in the mid 17th Century, as the last of the uninhabited land was claimed by the competing settlers of England and Portugal. With that, the British Monarch was free to focus all resources on the homefront.

The minor powers of the European continent had heeded the British word of warning about Denmark, and looked longingly upon the Danish lands in the HRE. And when an Alliance spearheaded by the Austrian emperor himself decided to invade, the British just had to take the opportunity and strike as well. Danish troops initially outnumbered the Brits in the nordic theatre, but clever use of their superior fleets allowed the brave British to crush the vile Danes. The coalition on the continent were now free to wreak havoc upon the Danes, and soon claimed some pieces of coast. They also saw fit to release the Norwegian state from the Danes. British Diplomats soon arrived in Trondheim and set up a treaty of protection of the Norwegians.

Swedish nationalists had taken note of the release of the Norwegian state, and when the siege of Skara was complete their leader stepped forward and spoke to the British commanders. In the end, the Brits agreed that once the land was claimed, the Swedish kingdom was to be reestablished with it's capital in the island city of Wisby. Soon the Danes signed the peace treaty, and the British leaders kept true to their word. Sweden is now a proud vassal of the Empire.

A new war for conquering has just been launched on the Danes, and soon their will be little left of their pitiful "kingdom".

AAR-Spain 1676

The mid 17:th century started out good for the Spanish Empire, trade influence was increased by the long due reformation of the trade fleet. Some further vassal states in Italy were incorporated into the empire and the economy was on it's way up through rigorous reforms on the Iberian peninsula. Also most of the African provinces had been successfully acclimatised to the Spanish way of life, siestas were most welcome all throughout the new provinces.

The king, unfortunately for the state, had other priorities in the years proceeding the mid 17:th century and therefore the affairs of state fell into decline during his absence. When he returned he had the most unpleasant dream that an usurper had taken the throne and wasted all the wealth of the nation and destroyed it utterly in foolish enterprises. Hopefully it was but a bad dream.

AAR Portugal 9 The second russian war
The year of our lord 1650

King Sebastião II de avis was in the beginning of the Ming campaign.
After some major battles in the south the armies of Ming was scattered and in full retreat back to the north.
Messengers reported back that the russians was once again in war with Ming, had they completly disregared the truce just a few years back?

After more then half of the ming empire occupied by portuguese forces, they were forced into a Portuguese protectorate as many other east asian states.

And since Ming was now a subject to the portuguese crown Portugal inherited the russian war to much surprise for the russians.

The portuguese in Ming territory headed north and reports of russian invasion armies numbering of over 100000 men.
Having beaten huge ming armies in the previous war the portuguese forces was low on men, and even with full force they wouldnt have numbered more then 40000 in asia.

A recruitment program in portuguese indonesia was started and reinforcement was sent north in several smaller armies.
Meanwhile the battles were not going well, the russian had learned from the previous war and were now advancing despite bigger losses, but the word has always been that men was nothing russia had a shortage of.

A few years of russian advancements were stopped when two armies of 50000 each were assembled with the steady stream of reinforcements.
The russian armies were pushed back and several ming provinces was liberated.
In the end word was that the russian manpower reserve had been put to it's knees and Russia was forced to concede defeat.

Cause of the huge war effort in asia, trade had been neglected and who else then the greedy englishmen had taken advantage of the situation and forced the carribean trade east towards europe.

After the long march home there were to be no rest for the portuguese armies since the conquest of the sultanate of Aceh was finished and finally incorporated into Portuguese indonesia.

The colonial race with Great Brittain for the pacific islands continued.
And the trade fleets were reassigned to steer the carribean trade back north towards Chesapeake bay once again making New Lisboa the richest trade city on the globe once again.

In the year 1650 the french king Louis XV contemplated how he was to continue the expansion of his great Kingdom of France. When he looked at the map of Europe he realized for the first time that in the middle of southern France the Pope controlled a piece of land that rightfully should belong to the king of France. After a brief discussion with his advisors Louis XV decided to correct this old mistake. The french armies was assembled at the border of Avignon and war was soon declared. The combined armies of the Pope and his allies in Savoy and other places was no match for the mighty french armies and soon French soldiers besieged every town and city in the Papal state and the Savoy. The Pope and the petty king of Savoy was soon forced to sit down and negotiate peace with France. A peace treaty was soon signed and the towns of Nice, Avignon and Savoie was handed over to France.

After spending a summer in his new summer palace in Nice the french king started to plan his next move. In the north the small kingdom of Flanders had for a long time been close allies with France and the french kings had for some time now planned to offer them the possibility to become a vassal to the French crown with all the benefits such a deal would bring the people of Flanders. The french king decided to personally present this proposal to the king of Flanders and together with the entire court, travelled from Nice to Paris and from there to Flenders. After all the welcoming banquettes where over the kings of France and Flanders sat down in private to discuss the future for their two peoples. To this day no one knows what was said in that private discussion between the two kings, but after about fifteen minutes the french king left the meeting and decided to return to Paris.

When the king had returned to Paris relations between France and Flanders deteriorated quickly. The alliance between the two kingdoms were broken, the French armies were mobilized and war was eventually decleared. Soon the armies of Flanders were defeated and the towns of Flanders besieged by the French. Peace were eventually signed and half of Flanders were conquered, sorry liberated, by France.

In the middle of the 1670s France are once again at peace and the french economy thrives. But the peace is disturbed by news from the east, the powerhungry king of the Commonwealth have declared war on the French Allies in northern Germany and must be taught a lesson. It is again time for war! In this moment 150 000 polish soldiers are marching to engage the french soldiers in northern Germany. But the french armies are ready to meet them and are confident that they will be victourious in the coming battle...

It's awfully cramped in here...

In 1650 the Holy Roman Emperor Anton I was quite pleased with himself - he had finally managed to make the princes agree to not to attack each others! Happy as could be he rebuilt his armies and even helped long time ally Hungary to beat Venice, helping the province Lika to become part of the Empire in the process. This contentment was however not to last: After the armies had been mostly restored the Emperor most foolishly (as it sadly turned out) decided to reclaim some of the HRE lands wrongfully occupied by The Commonwealth. Not only did Bohemia side with the poles, but the polish forces turned out to be much stronger in both numbers and arms than the Emperor had anticipated. Maybe he should have read a few of those spy reports on his desk...

After a period of battles and wars Austria had to admit defeat, losing two provinces, part of Brandenburg as well as having to see most of Hungary in enemy hands. An utter disaster! Thus came the realization that what the Emperors had warned the princes about had come to pass: while the HRE had squabbled among themselves instead of uniting behind the Imperial Banner their enemies had grown strong. The Empire was now almost boxed in between so far friendly but mighty France to the west and the Commonwealth to the east with Spain making advancements to the south.

Anton once again rebuilt the Army, wondering what to do now. This was apparently not healthy and he died just as 1672 dawned, being succeeded by Maximilian II. The new Emperor quickly liberated what he could of Venice (before somebody else did) leaving the HRE surrounded by powerful nations except to the north. He then attacked Denmark in order to liberate some long suffering provinces, all in a desperate attempt to unite the Empire while there is still something left to unite...

The king soon decided to seize the opportunity and declared war on Ming. The Ming army was already broken by the Portugese and the russian army steadily advanced for a long while. Then suddenly the weak Ming conceded deafet to the Portugese and became their protectorate which once again put Russia in war with Portugal. Purtugal was very thickheaded about not giving any Ming territory away and despite several reasonable peace proposals the war raged on. This time the Russian forces were better prepared and won many battles against the vile Portugese albeit taking heavy losses. In the end the losses proved to many and when the manpower was totally depleted Russia was forced to accept a white peace.

This of course made the king furious and he looked desperately for somewhere to get a win. He noticed that Britain had declared war on Denmark and soon joined in to get some precious scandinavian territory. This went smoothly and Denmark is once again reduced to a small backwater state.

AAR Portugal 10 - India
The year of our lord 1676

King Sebastião II de avis was approached by King Carlos I de Trastámara with an plan to protect India from becoming all brittish. The plans aim was to secure several indian provinces from the now western indian state of Vijana....Vijanaga......from the sultanate in southern india.

However the plan needed to be postponed cause of troop redeployments and before it could be executed King Sebastião II died in fever in june 1680.
His son Henrique was crowned King Henrique I de avis later the same year.

The iberian alliance participated in two wars against the Indian sultanate, resulting in a strong Iberian presence on the Indian peninsula.
BlNMR5p.jpg

King Henrique also saw a opportunity to get back at the former protectorate of Tibet.
The Tibetan coastal province of Dacca was conquered and the Tibetan ally Pegu was forced to cede the provinces of chittagong, ratchaburi and ligore to Portugal.
YsajU7J.jpg

yB0YppA.jpg

A few years after the indian and tibetanian wars King Henrique was lost at sea and proclaimed dead after months of searches.
King Pedro II de avis was prounced King at the year 1695.

Tibet couldnt get back up after the devastating war with the Portuguese and was annexed by the portuguese protectorate of Kachar.

No more colonist worthy islands could be found in the pacific ocean. So the colonial dispute with Great Britain came to an end and the Portuguese mainland in america was finally beeing explored and colonised.

Only one year at the throne a messenger reached the young King with urgent news.
Russia had declared war on the Oirat horde. King Pedro II summoned the council to get the situation explained to him.
After a few hours of confusing explanations the King kind of understood the situation. Oirat horde was a protectorate of Kachar which was a protectorate of Portugal. so in order to protect the subjects of the portuguese crown King Pedro had to extend his protections to his subjects subjects aswell.
Resulting in the third Portuguese - Russian war.

King Sancho V de Trastámara quickly assured that they'll support their portuguese allies. Resulting in a vast alliance of states and subjects against the Russian Kingdom.
