It is calculated differently, you can actually pay it down (my first ever japan game I died basically because of it). I didn't want to list only new features; inflation is something where they have gradually adjusted the mechanics for the better.
IMO this changes are irrelevant. Easy to keep low level, standard grow is 0 and still have "magical one-button reduction" (you must only have "paper-mana").

I think the game has vastly improved and continues to improve. Sure, it’s not perfect, but it will never be. It continues to get better and better and the devs have given it a lot more time and attention than any other game that has been around this long by anyone else. It is one of my favorite games of all time and will continue to be as far as I can tell

Dude, you are nitpicking one side aspect of my post that didn't matter. Buying down inflation was a change. Grow rate was adjusted. They used to deliberately break gold based on tech group.

Inflation is one if many examples of where they have gradually tweaked for the better.

Hell yes I do as EU4 is a super sweet game and I've been playing the series since EU2. What's not to like about EU4? What other game allows me to play as Mali and then change their history so I have them colonize large parts of south America, have them spread Islam into most of south and north America (No trump is coming to power in north America in any of my games time lines) and stand toe to toe with the European superpowers of the the renaissance and early modern ere as a superpower in their own right?, non that I can think of. No two games are ever ever the same in EU4, even if you play the same country. EU4 is a masterful open world sandbox game which other games (other than CK2, V2 and HOI4) fail to measure up to.

EU4 Do you still like it?

Vanilla, not particularly. Modded yes. My own homebrew mod mostly, stuff like MEIOU not so much as they dont run well. There are some mods on steams like the japan warring states era mod that seem interesting but I didnt get around to them yet.

As someone who have played the game since its original release - yes, i do, i do for sure. Every aspect of the game has been vastly improved and it has been very fun watching it develop, eagerly awaiting every dev diary to spoil myself some changes :D
The fate of the new world natives is... difficult, with them seeing a sharp improvement in CoP and a while after, then dropping off after every next patch due to PDX tinkering with the AI's colonization logic... But to imagine the world with the pre-AoW map? Without forts? When the buddhism was not split? The days when everything outside of Europe, bar a few countries, had generic ideas? No, never!
(The only gripe i have is the attrition cap of a measly 5% *grumble* *grumble*)

2k hours, well what TMIT said, i lack a bit of the magic of the first years, but i think it is still an awesome game. Especially in multiplayer, which i play very rarely but when i do it gives me new reasons to repick that nation for the umpteenth time, and i think it always will, i go risk mode hehe.
Some DLCs definitely put new life into the game but i've played it way too much :D dang i thought this game was awesome already on its vanilla state when it was released, clocked most of my time on pre-aow and aow times. Played in every region and yeah there are some which are still lacking but well from what i've seen they will eventually rework them XD

To add something to my other post, Ive found it quite difficult to choose anything but custom nations since El Dorado. The new historical intro screen is great, but the ability to choose all your bonuses and make a wacky setup is just too appealing. So in an oddly roundabout way the (existence of) custom nations end up making the game less fun for me when I feel obligated to pick a normal nation.

Yeah I like it and play it a ton! I think the team has done a good job overall. It has gotten better over the years for sure, but has issues.

Merc system still a problem. AFAIK they don't really address it directly in the public -- I'd guess they either like the way it works or haven't been able to think of something better. Professionalism is a huge leap forward so maybe it'll get there.

Peace with the AI has always been an issue and still needs work.

AI should be more willing to accept peace regardless of length of war. There is too much of a score hit when the AI takes one of your forts imo. For example, as Poland I sieged all of Teutonic Order except one fort, and the AI sieged Moldavia for a whopping -10 hit to the score. So they wouldn't peace out for 3 provinces. Things like that.

Armies are still far too fast for my tastes, and attrition not high enough. The AI should defend its own territory instead of walking to the other side of the world for basically no cost. Often through desert and mountain.

Chasing around AI stacks across the ends of the earth (when they get past a fort) just really isn't fun or immersive.

I stopped playing the game for a decent amount of time because I honestly played it too much. I managed to do everything I possibly could in the game that seemed somewhat challenging enough as a goal.

Recently picked up the game again when I discovered the common universalis mod, it does everything that I feel lacks in vanilla. I hope they keep going in the direction they're going and expand/improve their province system/edicts.

I also play M&T but I put that mod currently on break until it's a bit more polished and developed. It's a big mod and needs quite a lot of time to update, I completely understand. So no rush.

No, not really.

It puts too much of an emphasize on conquest when wars are so boring. It's all about numbers and cavalry is still useless so warfare is simplistic, attrition a joke,... Only forts added some refinement to this to me but it's too limited and merc spam leads to fighting endless waves of mercs until the last fort is down (carpet siege was stupid albeit the only counter to that paradigm).
MP system is overly rigid "thanks" to ahead of time mechanic.
Lack of interconnection with most features make them very shallow and usually leads to the same optimal strategy conducted again and again.
Shallow DLC that fail to bring enough novelty (partly because of the above).

Suffice to say that yeah, the game might be difficult to grasp, super difficult because of the amount of tooltips and buttons. But lets be honest, you can't call it a Grand Strategy anymore when once you are familiar with all the menus and concepts, CIV VI is more difficult and challenging than EU4, which had never happend with EU3. Wichi si reaaally sad.

Maybe its just that I have too many hours but I don't think so. I just see the game becoming more and more lame and casual for new players who are not used to strategy games let alone Grand Strategy. I just can't call it Grand Strategy anymore. It is BY FAR, the easiest game of them all (CK2, HoI, Vicky 2 and even EU Rome. and of course EU3). Yes they made blobbing and snowballing a lot slower, but not more challenging per se.

And they don't even seem to care since it is working so well for them and are selling so much, which I completely understand. But its been long since it stopped being my favourite more challenging game I'd ever played.

If it wasn't for the mods which fill the many gaps the game has and adds a lot of realism and depth to the game, it'd be long since I would've stopped playing. I just can't play without mods anymore. It feels like playing EU4 at its release. Thank god for the mods.

It's pretty good.

Waaaaaaaaaaaay better than EU3 ever was.

Estates could use a rework and the devs may start considering axing some counters to streamline the game a bit, but overall, the game has never been as good as it is now.

I love it. And I love the fact that it seems to get more and more updates that offer new content. For a long time I was a fan of a modded gameplay, but after growing increasingly disappointed with the path mods like Meiou have taken, going very far away from vanilla and DLCs and freezing down major features of the game, I am back to the unmodded game, and I love it.

Sure, I'd like to see a bigger map, more events ( which each new major patch seem to focus on ), but I don't mind, because each new patch adds immersion and regional flavor. At least the unmodded game is not full of bugs and incomplete features like some major mods are, because I HATE EARLY ACCESS/BETA/BUGGY games :D Add to that the fact that some major mods remove features that are under the player's control to replace them with things that offer the player less decision making and interaction, and that they block tons of vanilla/dlcs features and here you have it, no mods all the way. At least until Common Universalis advances a bit and adds the planned new things I know that they are going to add.

i like it, even better now, the AI is making so much money, a war is not decided before it starts
Yes, I love the AI making more money too. Why have tons of features/buildings in the game that need money, when you don't have money to spend them, and they are barely used? Why bother developing such game features if they are not used? Now they will be used, and it's great.
