So, one of the misssions gives you a unique tier 1 government reform, but another suggests becoming the EoC, and claiming the mandate locks you into the celestial empire tier 1 reform :/

You don't have to take the Mandate, it's just one of the ways you can complete that mission.

I admit that I find playing a nation without a single military idea pretty bland, I just feel weak, and that's not fun. A central and important nation should probably just have a token something, to help them compete. If Siam get something here, that might balance it out (representing them becoming a dominant military power in the region).

Otherwise it just feels a shame having to pick between a nation with cool missions and flavour but weak and uninteresting ideas (Ayu), or a far more bland nation (without unique unit models) but with far more interesting and useful ideas (Khmer). Either option leaves me just a little disappointed is all.

How good is AI Ayutthaya managing its missions? Will we ever see an AI Siam when we arrive there?

I like the idea of adding some more reasons to use subject nations for SEA nations, but I wonder: are there going to be enough tags and provinces around for major nations to have a small vassal swarm and also be expanding their own land?

I don't know. I think, between the missions of subjugating surrounding regions, NI:s that reduce liberty desire and picking up influence ideas you might be able to create a very powerful vasall swarm. I think this is a very intresting as an alternative to copy paste military buffs and unique playstyle in the region. Of course it has to be well executed but numbers can be adjusted.

I am personally very interested in this.

In 1.30 Ayutthaya’s national ideas are both a little on the weak side

I mean; they're hands down the worst idea set in the game. No military bonuses [No 10% manpower dosen't count, and yes a lot of SEA dosen't have military bonuses but a lot of those countries are naval powers fighting other naval powers with equally bad land armies so it dosen't matter much]; an outright troll-tier idea [Trade Range when Siam is a start node, it's only use is privateering and the best node for you to privateer is right next to you in the first place]; and pretty much every other idea is weak at best.

I have no qualms saying Ayuthaya's current idea set is weaker than Generic.

New Ayu ideas are better militarily; and arguably one of the best diplomaic sets in the game. Like; a European country could kill for 30% Improve Relation; +1 Diplo Rep; -Liberty Desire; + Vassal Income and -Diploannex cost; especially if it's going for the Thrones.

The only question now is; what's the new worst idea set in the game.

A concern that comes to mind for me is that you said that any other nation that forms Siam will gain this same set of missions, and with missions that are telling you to subjugate other nations instead of just conquering lands, that suddenly becomes an issue. Because you might be playing as one of those nations you are being instructed to Subjugate, or they might be long dead since the start of the game, resulting in a situation where you are completely locked out of an amount of your mission tree with no way to progress.

Could there be alternate requirements for those subjugation missions? Say holding the lands those nations start with at game start, as well as having no unrest or separatism in them. If you really want to discourage this path in favour of the subjugation path, even slap on an extra timelock for the missions, say own those lands for 30 years or something. I don't know. Just something that doesn't penalise the player just because they decided to try to play as Siam without starting as Ayuthaya.

As with all missions, there are fallbacks if the "standard" requirements can't be met.

That is contradictory with how numerous ideasets in the game are designed. Including Poland or Nepal, which history does not justify the strength of their ideasets at all.
If anything such ideasets with absurd stacks of military quality ideas should be toned down.

With the change of several of the sea zones to inland types, has there been any thoughts on a UI change that would make distinguishing between the two types easier than having to mouse over the zone to read the UI? Maybe a different color for the text on the map.

I'll probably have to see what entails in the Siamese Revolution, but what i know is: while French presence was basically gone after Phetracha took over, other Europeans (particularly the Dutch VOC) did not suffer as much. Will there be European options to stay on their good side (e.g. by choosing to not intervene in their politics during and after the disaster through events, for example)?

Also, will there be any representations of the Persian/Iranian community in Ayutthaya during the period? It's nice that we get to see Yamada Nagamasa, what about
Sheikh Ahmad Qomi (hope i spelled that correctly)?

Any changes to current Ayutthayan events (which are rather bland)?

Also, as noted by another reply, the Ascension of Trailok was not without problems; it sparked a war between Ayutthaya and Lan Na not long after. Please make the event have three options: 1) inherit Sukhothai, triggering an event for Lan Na to intervene for the land (they can refuse ofc) 2) appoint someone from Ayutthaya as viceroy 3) appoint a local such as Yuthit Thian, with option 2 and 3 having different benefit and drawbacks.

Dynamic province names are cool but also very time consuming to write. I'd be happy to implement any scripted lists provided in the suggestion forums (in the game files you can find examples of these lists in common/province_names. Also, please tag me if you make anything like this). Given that I'm the only content designer right now and my to do list is very long I certainly won't have the time to research and implement this on my own, more "visible" content like the topic of this dev diary take priority.
Thanks for your reply! I'll try my best to make a list of Chinese dynamic names. I know how they work. Would you please provide me with a full list of newly added provinces so that I can do my research accordingly? Thanks again!

Sounds great though. Looking forward to playing with the new Ayutthaya stuff. Not actually played as them before so the new patch will be a great time to do a white elephant run!
