As for next week, we'll be having a special dev diary, indeed the final one for the year, where we will be doing a bit of a post-mortem on the year, talking about suggestions&feedback, as well as laying out future plans for EUIV, so that you can get involved yourselves in them to a greater degree.

Enjoy the release tomorrow, and see you for 2018's final diary next week.

I dislike the idea changes. They just make some ideas more mediocre instead of rather making the less played ideas more significant - this is not good way to go.

I hope they will change this in the upcoming patch... until then I guess I will stay 1.27

Dear Devs, now that you stealth added the "Council of the Indies" government reform and buffed the Isabella event please think about this

Had you listened a little more on the map changes for Iberia, gave Portugal a new idea set and reworked the Castilian civil war, the Iberian wedding and maybe the Burgundian Inheritance and actually given us a Dev diary about those event changes your posts regarding GC wouldn't be 80% "respectfully disagree" but 80% "agree"

I'm serious, the outrage about GC is about lack of content. But judging from this it is at least as much about your horrible communication. You tell us you make a Spain DLC and then don't tell us about the government reform for Iberians but tell us at length about the pirate government reforms. Are we really at fault for being mad that the Spain DLC looks like a Pirate DLC?

Do you realize that Castile did not send its heretics to America? That was a British and French thing. The council even tried to improve the natives rights to no avail, but alas, it was dificult to create Iberian content in the Spain update
Do you realize that the feature is not only about religious minorities, but about cultural ones? And that there was notable Basque, Galician and Catalan colonization in America? Also, e.g. the colonization of Sao Tome was actually by Sephardic Jews, and the colony of Nuevo Leon was started by Sephardi.

Representing this as expelling minorities may be a little heavy-handed and only a very appromate depiction of history, but it is not true that Spain and Portugal did not have colonies that were not Castilian and catholic or Portuguese and catholic, respectively. Especially for Spain it is quite nice and flavourful to be able to not only have Castilian colonies.

Let's give credit where it's due. The AI changes sound fantastic and I look forward to playing with them.

Don't quite understand the trade company thing but any change that nerfs TCs is good for balance.

I understand that, but in my opinion it is represented by the current colonization, where virtually a whole country contributes to the colonization effort and settlers.

Problem with expelling minorities as Spain implies that Basques were shipped off to the New World, making Navarra a Castilian land. Or that Maghreb could be naturally resettled to Mexico. Or, for example, you could see Muslims in Texas. I am not saying that this feature is bad, but it hardly could be called an Iberian feature. For Iberia, 5% settler chance would probably be still more fitting than it.

Nobody expel Basque, Galician or Catalan to America... It was normal colonization, like other cultures in Spain.

Uhm... No minorities were expelled to the colonies. In fact, most of them were forbidden from doing so.
Even people from the crown of Aragon could not freely go there until Philip III. There were quite a few people from Aragon involved in the conquests, as the implementation was relatively lax, but it was still mostly people from the crown of Castile.
And while quite a few jews did go to the Americas, they were not at all expelled there; they mostly fled hoping to escape prosecution. And they had to have converted to Christianity before being allowed to leave, at least officially, so from the point of view of the state they were christians.

Basques or galicians were not seen as any different from castilians, and were not treated any differently. If anything, they were socially seen as better due to being "old christians" free of the suspicion of being converted muslims or jews.

EDIT: Also, I don't think that the idea that all Spanish-speaking Americans are Mexicans is going to go down very well. Wouldn't it be easier to just make a dozen copies of the culture and link it to the colonial region? Or just change its name to "Hispanic" as a term to cover everything.

In all seriousness, I've played EU4 multiplayers with several Argentinians that would jockingly rename the Rio de la Plata "Argentina is not Mexico" when colonizing it.

I guess it was not a joke. This update is very sad.

Just change it to Spanish American or something; the Mexica were the Aztecs!

Sorry but what's a 'Tech disparity bonus'?? I haven't had my coffee yet, but this whole sections makes no sense to me :/

# War & Peace
- Overlord can force non-voluntary subjects in the same war to transfer occupied provinces

Does 'non-voluntary subject' means a disloyal subject?

# Events
- Added Tortoise Herding
- Cultural Ties Weakened event radically altered. Now spreads Mexican, American, and Brazilian cultures depending on context.
- Iberian Wedding will no longer fire for Castile if it owns less than 25 provinces, or for Aragon if it owns less than 16 provinces
- WiH Isabella event now has less stringent triggers

What's Tortoise herding?
And what is 'WiH Isabella event'??

Good god I need some coffee. brb.

The one balance change everyone was asking for and agreed on for ages so Spain would stop failing, that is, making Aragon and Castille historical friends with Aragon, you dont do it.

Great job, as always.

Im not even gonna comment on the rest because we all know it by now, and saying it earned me a ban.

I look forward to seeing what idiotic stealth changes not mentioned in the patch notes will get unearthed after release. Yes, I'm still angry over the 7CoG changes.

So. First, I like the change to finally unlock the paywall of common sense. For me the Steam shop still is not overviewable for new players. There should be a merge of some of the older dlcs into one, and giving owners of 4-5 of them all 5 if they own 4 of 5 etc. Any solution is better then this old mess. Besides that, nice.

Now to the DLC - enough is said about the lack of features and depth. It just doesn't feel like a spain or an Iberian update. If so - you could have least give some more free missions for all iberian nations and let that be extended by the immersion pack.
Also I really hoped to see at least a ton of fresh country events for spain and the others.
In the patch notes I see just 2-3 for the early 15 years. Great. And also the usuall "new system" new 10 event random stuff.
I would really like if it would make a difference to play spain or one of the other countries. I'm just missing the flavor. How costly/hard can it be to let one guy write at least 15 new events for each of this nations that will appear over time? It would add so much more with an easy step. Besides the missed chance to change the catholic game/give special units or a special govermenttype for the iberian nations or anything other....I hate to say it, but this game dies because of the lack of flavor love. and I loved this game. I want to pay you for good content, so playing is everytime different and every nation feels a bit different, you do it sometimes, but you missed it this time hard.

Edit: And I know @neondt that you at least read the posts and you anwser some of them. So that is a good step! I just keep having the feeling, that paradox steped away a lot of people from EU IV, so less people are doing less work in the same amount of time and for the same price. Please don't lose your customers at one of your best working games (also for new players! and give us back some more focused and real flavor for the next patches... Iam missing an effort like the free woman in history dlc with so many events and persons... etc

Especially for Spain it is quite nice and flavourful to be able to not only have Castilian colonies.

No it isn't at all. There wasn't such thing as Spanish colonies.

The colonies were solely Castillian, under the Castile crown and only Castillian crown, Castilian administration, Castillian Viceroys, the gold and silver went to Castile and only Castile, and the conquest was for Castile.

And the treaty of Alcaçovas and Tordesillas were between Castile and Portugal and not Aragon or any other kingdom.

After the expulsion of Moriscos Aragon lost 1/3 of population and didn't even had people to work their lands or colonize their own territories.

The fact that Castilian Basque people were inmigrants (not expelled) doesn't mean those colonies were going to be Basque.

That's like saying Argentina was an Italian colony or New York an Irish colony.
