Because the classical division of Nubia is lower and upper Nubia, with "Lower Nubia" stretching from the first to the third cataract while "Upper Nubia" stretches from the third to the sixth cataract.

No, with the Islamization the terms "Nubia" and "Nubians" came out of use. But well, good luck with finding alternative names, especially as the political situation in 1444 AD Nubia is pretty messed up anyway: We have a Makurian rump-state in "Lower Nubia", a crippled Alodian state in the very end of "Upper Nubia" and several emirates, sultanates, kingdoms and stateless people between, of which we know almost nothing. Literature about this topic is rare and hard to get.
So this is why i suggest the modern division into "Lower Nubia" and "Upper Nubia".

There was an EU3 mod called Steppe Wolf that ran from 11 AD - 2100 AD and was about equally obsessed with Bulgaria and Rome. If you started it in 1944/45, the American-controlled parts of France would be called 'American Rome' because Rome never lost its cores.

I think that would be nice implement a "control of region casus belli": if two great power have more than a certain number of claims in a specific region they can declare war each other and the winner takes the the claimed province plus the other state present in the region receive a guarantee and must give trade power (to introduce some concept of sphere of influence in EUIV).
It will be a good mixture of the crisis of Vic2 and of Religious Wars.

I actually suggested something that would be a bit like this in terms of effect a while ago called regional influence which was gained in areas like AE (but was good) and could simulate stuff like this.

fix the clicking on trade nodes and armies, when assessing a peace deal :p
also fix trade fleets, protecting in foreign trade nodes, traveling back to random home provinces to repair, instead of repairing in whichever is the closest - your subject's province or in a country, which grants you fleet basing (preferably with a shipyard).

So, does the colored-in wasteland apply to all the map modes and not just the political one? I've seen mods do this but there were still big holes in countries on the diplomatic and rivals maps, etc.

There is a very simply way to find out. Go to defines and find this line:
COLOR_WASTELANDS = 0
Then change that 0 to a 1; you now have coloured wastelands in your game so you can check whether or not this applies to all mapmodes at the moment. If it does it probably will too after the patch; if it doesn't then pdx might have solved that.

I really hope Paradox allows custom regions with overlap for use as triggers in events, decisions, missions etc.

I am greatly concerned that Paradox has not responded to the many posts above relating to this. Please confirm that custom regions will be allowed for mods.

This is one of the best improvements since launch. Now if we can emulate the same for cultures, culture groups and super culture groups it would be great. Also relative cultural bonuses and penalties. For example France occupying English provinces should be easier, than Ottomans occupying English provinces since there is a cultural similarity. The more cultural similar/close the easier it is to get the culture accepted.

The next thing would be to code centers of reformation to target areas, then regions, then super regions (if possible). This ensures that the reformation blobs up and is not sparse and spread out sporadically.
