The macro builder for unit templates is an example of something done right

Oh absolutely. I mentioned that myself a couple posts back.

Features that streamline the micromanagement, reduce the number of clicks and menus for the player to navigate, etc., are great. It's when the game is actually given the reins and allowed to do things for the player that things tend to break down.

That's the distinction I've been trying to draw here, and I think it's an important one.

Your post as a whole is on point.

Automatic rebel suppression, as already mentioned. It's pretty much useless if you care one iota about playing efficiently.

Another great example is CK2's automatic title distribution feature, which ruined many a person's game and was apparently designed with the same mindset.

Rebell Supression needs an update so that the armies try to reduce Unrest actively imho.
Otherwise the feature was good when the rebells (non event ones at least) did spawn randomly all over.

I still use it i n remote places when i can't be bothered with the revolts at all.

The "make Rebells Attacker" thing is in my eyes an exploit and should be removed from the game or changed otherwise to remove its exploitiness.

I celebrate the things Paradox does well, and grumble about the things they do poorly. I'm not going to celebrate in advance about a feature that seems similar to things they've done poorly in the past. If it does turn out a great, smoothly-functioning feature, then I'll be pleasantly surprised—but I'm not holding my breath.

If that makes me a pessimist, then thank goodness I'm not an optimist.

Expecting the worst makes you an pessimist, wait and see with a cautious outlook makes you a realist.

Maybe i missjudged your post and you just haven't much expectations, which I, with PDs track record on semi-developed/broken features can understand.

I would agree there need to be a way to balance "Construct in subjects" as so to avoid reducing the need for control of the seas for colony's sakes.

What I would like to see is being allowed to construct buildings in CN's provinces, especially those that boosts manpower and etc. that would help CNs to defend themselves better or boost amount that CN will pay in tariff through increase in base tax. Call it a colonial investment if you will. I don't know if mother country should also be allowed to also increase development in CNs if they want to. Probably not.

Why would you want to do this?
Because it basically means I don't need to maintain a transport fleet. As I commented earlier in this thread, this wouldn't be so bad if raising units in subject nations incurred a penalty to liberty desire. This would reflect the historical reality; colonial subjects who'd gone to the new world seeking freedom were less than impressed when the mother nation pitched up and demanded they fight

As of now there are quite a bit of expansions out there, and I pretty much own them all. However, for newer players this may feel a little bit overwhelming. Do you guys have any plans to merge the earlier expansions with the basic game and call it EU4: Gold or something?

EDIT: Not making statements for the devs, but you do realize that's the reason they have Collections of CK2 and EU4** for newcomers on Steam, right?


**If you want a more complete EU4 collection you should probably wait for the next update tick [end of year?]; The CK2 collection was already updated this year so no point if further waiting there.

Quality of Life improvements have been a part of every single major expansion with the possible exception of Conquest of Paradise. I really don't know why people act surprised each time.
I think it's because (at least in my perspective) Paradox's policy is almost the exact opposite of most other companies: You put all the good stuff in the free patch, and put most of the 'meh' stuff in the expansion (with the exception of 1 thing). Like at most game companies, that 'meh' thing (like in this dev diary) would be in the free patch, while the things that everyone wants, such as the fixes to the RNW generator or for me personally any map extensions, would be in the expansion

Like at most game companies, that 'meh' thing (like in this dev diary) would be in the free patch, while the things that everyone wants, such as the fixes to the RNW generator or for me personally any map extensions, would be in the expansion
Then those other companies suck. Why would they make the fixes for a system of one expansion part of a different expansion? (RNW)

As for Wiz's statement... Wasn't the auto-papal influece spend thing originally proposed as part of a DLC but later moved to a free feature after people complained?

I don't think we could in good conscience charge for a fix to what is already a paid feature.
