The DLC that introduced factions for merchants republics (I don't remember if it were Wealth of Nations or Res Publica) also added a lot of events associated to factions in Merchant Republics. I'd be very disappointed if those were removed, they give a lot of flavour.

I thought Merchant factions were patch material? I hope so, with national focus now included with common sense, removing more from Res Publica would be rather annoying for me and devalue it's content even more.

@Wiz
This keeps on getting better, can't wait!

This is awesome. Call this expansion the "Art of Peace" :)

Is it possible to tell us more about the type of possible interactions? That's a missing piece from this diary.
Great work !!

I think you keep forgetting (also the folks who mentioned England), that the Parliament IS the nobility. No need to double dip.

Not exactly. Clergy also sat at the Sejm. Some royal cities were also represented. And during the reform period at the end of the Commonwealth, the road to the Sejm was opened wide before the burghers.

And we are also ignoring the fact that the Sejm was a battleground between the Magnates and regular Szlachta, until the latter lost their economic ground.

"While we are aware that calling for example Cossacks an 'Estate' is a bit of a misnomer, we felt that the system would be much poorer for excluding power groupings that fall outside the traditional Three Estates."

Maybe you can name the tab something different then. Like: Politics or power groups or something.
Also, something minor but (I think) important: Can you change the icon for the Religion tab? It's not so reasonable countries who aren't Christian to still have the cross? :)

Keeps faction system, does not get estates.

Merchant Republics lose their factions if the new expansion is enabled and get estates instead.

Will the estates in Merchant Republics mirror the normal factions? Seems like they could use some unique flavour due to this...

Couldn't you transform Ming Factions in special kind of estates giving different bonuses ? The new system seems much more interesting that the old factions :)

Side question : will the nobility be named samurai in japan ? (and cause many problems when you unite the land forcing you for instance to enact a sword hunt :p )

Will Poland/Commonwealth have the Magnates, opposed to regular Szlachta? These two were quite separate and the rise of Magnates together with the post-deluge economic decline of Szlachta is the actual cause of PLC's decline. Szlachta served as a check for the Magnates, but when it got impoverished by the turmoil, they turned into clients.
Having to balance the Magnates, the Szlachta, the Church, the Burghers and the Cossacks against each other while dealing with foreign nations trying to press their preferred candidate for the crown would help turn PLC into the mess of conflicting forces it really was, but it might be a bit too messy to manage by the player.
:(
This rips away the actual essence of Poland's internal politics.

As a side note, there's factual error in the description of Elective Monarchy in EU4. The king was not elected by the Sejm, but by the congregation of all of Szlachta in Wola village (now a district of Warsaw).
Which was called Sejm elekcyjny, so it is correct (even though the election Sejm had somewhat different rules than the regular one).

Proper integration would be awesome. Just on those few pages there are many ideas that would make the game a lot deeper and a lot more fun. Government types, disasters, westernization, etc. But this could be complicated:

The problem is the DLC model. Making it a DLC features would realy create 2 very different versions of the game (if strong integration is implemented). That would be hard to manage I guess. Making it free with the patch would be ridiculous, it's a lot of work that deserves to be paid. So besides changing the DLC model, I don't see any good solutions.

My previous question was basically through a reply to a different one, but I'm wondering about something else:
When estates are added through events, can we give controlled provinces from the start? For example, noble_estate_1 gets replaced by noble_estate_2, and noble_estate_2 gets the modifiers and provinces of the first?

I think it might be neat if non-Christians got their religion's icon as the tab icon. Seems like a simple thing to do and doesn't come with costs of making new icons.

It is entirely possible to integrate DLC systems with non DLC systems, we do it all the time. You can write different event effects if you have DLC or not, etc.

We've discussed the idea and like it, so possibly.
Could you do the same for Norway and other countries that didn't have serfdom. Don't know any other countries which are independent in the game which didn't have it historically. Maybe even add events or decisions which abolish or adds the peasant estate(serfdom).
