But surely Bratyn is too honourable to violate a non-aggression pact. Trust is power in multiplayer.

+1. Neither me nor Bratyn are pact-breakers. Once you go down that route it will come back and haunt you later on.

From my perspective it was either the pact or certain death. I felt almost certain noone would come to our help if the Turks decided to finish us off. Team Timmy would jump us because they like killing russians :) the mamluks are in chaos and unable to mount an offensive, the Indians would probably not intervene to help us. In return handing over a couple of Italian provinces and Polish VC cores was a fair trade to remain alive and possibly make a comeback

Was there a frantic bidding war, or did someone call in a strategic sick day? :p

I was in the lovely Caribbean for some R&R . Big shoutout to @StarNaN for keeping the Kaiser Reich healthy and strong! ... And I was -THIS- close on stepping on one of them native rattlesnakes btw... surely a fatal blow to the Reich! (Hunting Accident anyone?)

Now with a Prussia who got a Starnan Seal of approval you sadly can no longer pretend to be weak. I want a certain turkish inner lake red next session ;)

... But have you seen the SHEER SIZE of the Turkish armies?! :D

It's also because one player being away now hurts an entire team. And the nature of this clash is such that even one player spending one session as AI could well ruin an entire team's chances of victory.

@StarNaN was there a reason you hesitated in e.g. dowing Switzerland and France despite the truce being up?
Also did Bratyn stay out of most of France by choice or was it only you who had areas whihc were off limits?

Mostly because I did not know how much I could rely on the NAP with Ottomans and I was falling behind in Administrative technology as well, needed those Admin points. That combined with guidelines saying to eat nations in New World/Africa when there is downtime. Rather be safe than sorry when standing in for the strongest nation. :)

Its now a race!

Turks or us must defeat the other team entirely quick enough to be able to hurt the Indians so they cant win.

Sadly the indian players are not idiots and will do whatever it takes for our war to drag out, while their score ticks up.

That's interesting - the only rattlesnake I can find in the Caribbean occurs in Aruba, and is a critically endangered species of venomous pit viper snakes, obviously called the Aruba rattlesnake. Good job you did not step on it.

But then Prussia did not actually need a StarNaN as much as Groogy did fighting the Ming, though Dan9l managed to keep Tibet undamaged, but leaving him back under the Ming again.

Yepp thats the one :)

It is in both Team Johans and Team Indians best interest for Johans to cut down the Turks scorelead. Right now they lead in both accumulated score and score gain per month by far. If Team Johan does not win against Team Turk (say by Team Indian intervention on Turk side) the Turks will win the game.

You might actually be able to overtake the Indians without punching them, albeit it'll be narrow. Jake kept forgetting various things when tallying your score. E.g. that Prussia doesn't actually hold a single victory card as Südtirol is held by the Turks. And it must also be remembered that Poland currently is around negative 1200 from having lost victory cards. So just by getting all of your cards you won't be too far behind the Indians, possibly even overtaking them. And if you get all your 4k ones and then Indians don't then you win. So in some way it'll probably be the 4k cards deciding it.

Team India has VC provinces closeby they havn't taken yet as pointed out by Jake on the stream though. They likely have more than the score shows.

Has the time for elaboration not yet come? Or did I miss it?

Sure -

First, I had to pick an idea group other than Military. It would be either Innovative, Religious (although Inno >>> Religion esp. since I wouldn't pick Quantity for some time; Offensive was next) or Exploration.

Innovative is a logical choice for Land power. Going Defensive - Economic - Quality - Innovative - Offensive gives you a beastly army with only 5 idea groups and policies enabled

So why Exploration?
  1. After our ganks I did not plan to gank them any further. I feared the Mamluks would be getting too strong - remember the Turks fought us hard in both wars that session and Mamluks had an easier time and got more out of the peace deals. If we finished off the Turks I assumed the Mamluks would grab most of Turkish lands and become the new Superpower. This means I assumed there wouldnt be any major player wars in the next session involving us, untill I could unlock another idea group to go Offensive.
    1. This assumption of no more player wars soon was reinforced by a non-aggression pact with Turks after the session. The hope was for Turks and Mamluks to bash each other and keep themselves in check while we could eat AI. The non-aggression pact was in effect untill 3 hours (just before lunch) of the same day we would get ganked when Turks cancelled it... o_O
  2. I had grabbed Iceland since long before, giving me access to the New World. The idea was to milk cash from Natives and then long-term funnel all that New World cash through North Sea to Lubeck, since I would eat Scandinavia short-term. I also needed somewhere else to WAR! that didn't cap me on AE because at that moment AI coalions still meant something
    1. Did I mention milk natives for cash? Because its worth re-iterating :) same thing with Trade Leagues
  3. With all that money and Naval Forcelimit I would dominate the seas and become a Sea Power aswell (Quality FTW!) and kill of Great Britain eventually; a relatively AE-friendly expansion path far away from my main AE generator, Scandinavia.
    1. It was only with the narrowest of margins I had the Naval strength to kill Great Britain in the first war. Their navy was still far stronger than mine and I could only win that first crucial war to get a foothold due to intercepting their split fleets and then camping their main fleet in port.
  4. I was the only player with reasonable access to the New World besides Mamluks (and later Ottos - remember they lost Ibera holdings to Mamluks). Atleast I would get all of north America easily.
  5. Admin Idea groups always the downside of needing the ADM to core when you conquer stuff same time. I also had a passive -WE ticking modifier already (Prussia Government) so that idea which IMO is one of the main reasons to pick it was less powerful than before.
  6. Minor point but Protestant is really nice for colonizing with that church aspect giving +15 colonist increase!
  7. Colonial Nations gives pretty damn strong bonuses like +5 Land FL aswell per nation.I really need that when not going Quantity untill lategame.
You could argue we should've seen it comming but at the time it seemed like a solid line of reasoning. Either way the +20% INF CA from Innovative policy wouldn't have made a difference given the size of the coalition against us. My army ended up mostly intact by simply dodging the Ottomans and focusing less powerful opponents.

Biggest mistake was probably that I antagonized the Indians too much. Probably made it easier for Bratyn to get them to join the dogpiling on us. Without them we could've maybe had a chance. Lesson learned I guess.

In the end I believe a major part of being able to YOLO Europe a few sessions later was the wealth and Navy from New World and going back I would do it again :D

That's only five more than with the Treaty of Tordesillas bonus tho :p

Requires you to have a CN already in the colonial region though :)

The time-consuming part is actually getting the five provinces to get the CN to form, hence why protestant is supernice. Once it has formed, you can just mass-WAR all the Indians and feed it very quickly.

Fear not, for though one by one the free lands of Europe fell to the power of the Prussian, there are some who resist. A last alliance of Turks, Mamluks, and Crimeans will march against the armies of (P)Russia, and on the slopes of Mount Matterhorn they will fight for the freedom of Europe.

Hey! All that aggressive talk is completely unwarranted! We wish a better understanding with team Turk. Maybe if we come by Constantinople and we could smooth over our differences over some schnaps? :)

You are more than welcome! Please drink the Schnapps first, and preferably give some to your armies too ;)
