Ah i didn't know that France, Prussia could spawn anywhere, that does make things alot more unpredictable, and those provinces in france are costly point wise, i have noticed this, the ai smells weakness, if you take less then 5 provinces, you're going to need some goodluck, if you're starting in france, want to perhaps take atleast 10 provinces maybe given your starting area. ai really does smell weakness. Da9L has won the lottery to some extent, can potentially get away with 5 provinces and putting the rest into buffs, although still tempting fate given what you said about random ai spawning. My biggest worry has Da9L would be a grand naval coaltion forming against him mid/end game, hence having strong naval focus, just so he can fight all of europe at sea.

For you, i'd probably try to button up a bit against johan , maybe a little buffer, but with a focus with starting with normandy and paris areas for wealth, although you "may" be able to game/weaken the ai spawning points a bit, if you choose your provinces in a fashion that it leaves little pockets that can be taken easily if you catch my drift? so little enclaves, divide and conquer? idk, could backfire, so don't curse my name if things go wrong :p

You forget that developtment of provinces will also be randomised, though. Paris could be a 1-1-1 province.

EDIT: Also, I believe they have to complete all provinces in a state before taking a province from another state.

ahhh gotcha, didn't know that, this is gonna be quite fun!

In a test game a gigantic Yuan was my neighbor :(
poor guy, in the end having more provinces will ensure your survivability early game, which is probably more important i guess. i saw your start location, enemies on all sides, geography isn't your friend, a true underdog, will be entertaining to see how you do, give erm ell.

Yeah, this'll be the first dev clash where the tension goes through the roof before November 12 passes!

And imagine spawning next to a huge, high-development Yuan, that allies to a high-dev Ottomans not far away. Or a large prussia...

As the youth of yesterday used to say, shit just got real.

There is a rule about no starting border-gore, which already ruins my initial plan for the region. Even with randomized province development, France is a big square region and I think it is going to be impossible to stop some kind of large nation from spawning there, the question is just how big it will be. Not knowing where the player nations in Iberia, Germany and Italy are going to be either, means that it could spawn across regions.

If for example Friduric starts in Lisbon, and I chose to start around Paris, that is a huge amount of land between us that the AI has to fill with something.

May have to work with a player to settle your differences with the ai i guess, strike up a pre-game alliance with either Johan to fight back to back or Friduric?

EU4 should become the football of next generation, would be nice to see the international tournaments of this game like dota.

I'm betting on Groogy. Not that he will be the strongest but he will manage to do something out of the ordinary again.

What are the rules about "formable nations"? StarNaN could spend less points on government ideas and more on "land" simply in preparation to switch to Prussia. That seems a kinda unfair advantage.

I just noticed: Hannover has the "can not be a custom nation" line for forming parameters but Prussia doesnt. An oversight?

The government might be worth doing this, but don't forget that with a custom nation you don't get the unique Prussian ideas.

Whoever controls Italy, basically has a clear edge. The development in Italy is amazing early start.
We're playing with random development.
Plus, the more development you take, the fewer points you've got for ideas.

These are some things that remain "normal":
Province modifiers (such as Kopparberget or Centers of Trade).
Trade Nodes.
Province religion/culture of provinces not taken by players.
Will the provinces you take get your primary culture?

Also will you have RNW?
