The map only highlights each player's starting region. We'll pick the actual provinces once we start the game at the beginning of the first session. Ideas and such can be saved/planed beforehand though.
I see @Da9L has chosen where the good guys usually start. Goodluck & Godspeed!
We did not really pick regions ourselves. It was settled with a die.
Will we see some players' national ideas before the game? Or are you afraid of enemy spies? The map only highlights each player's starting region. We'll pick the actual provinces once we start the game at the beginning of the first session. Ideas and such can be saved/planed beforehand though.
Does random setup also randomise the trade nodes and the direction trade flows in or does everything still flow to Channel, Genoa and Venice. Because that can make a lot of difference in good starting positions

i belief there is no HRE (holy roman empire) or wil the fill out nations be the HRE were the HRE is.
These are some things that remain "normal":
Province modifiers (such as Kopparberget or Centers of Trade).
Trade Nodes.
Province religion/culture of provinces not taken by players.
It changes the development and the borders, normally un-colonized provinces may become part of starting random nations. It also causes any non-fort buildings that might exist to be removed (forts stay in place). Cultures and religions (unless adjusted with custom nation selection shenanigans), trade routes/nodes, and basic geography are unchanged.

Thanks guys, then I think da9l has a great place with a probable firm hold on the English Channel. Low countries will of course also be a great place. Here's hoping for some nice Anglo-Dutch wars
Somthing to help stir the pot a bit before the game, i'm giving 2:1 odds on Da9L
That is quite interesting. Worth keeping in mind that we have random nations on, so what nations spawn around us is unknown at this time, in both size and idea sets. France could spawn in China and Prussia could be Ireland.
I've been away most of the week as well so haven't done as much pre-game diplomacy as I would've liked. It is definitely going to be a challenging start given my neighbors and their potential desires on my land. Time will tell of course as no one is being particularly open about their plans or their nation setups.
I'm also a little concerned that some behemoth AI might spawn near me if I don't take too many provinces. Having a 400 development AI spawn across regions, like France/Germany or France/Iberia, would be a real problem.
