I'm curious to know whether you didn't think having an actual army is important to protect your land holdings or if you thought you were not going to get victory cards on the mainland.
He has Austria to defend his land holdings, it is clear that whoever posed the greatest threat to his VC's was going to be his friend and if that threat changed? So did Britannia's friends.

Perfidious Albion is the only Albion.

Johan played very smart and is thus the only Western power to survive (Portugal does not count since Zeke has not been playing MP).

Through diplomacy acquiring strong mainland allies probably. His navy is invincible and in all honesty it does have quite a big impact if wars drag on. For all the banter I think Johan A did the right plays.

Personally I would've gone for Exploration, Trade, Economic, Offensive/Defensive, Quality or something like that though. Naval/maritime is overkill when you are miles and miles ahead of everyone else anyway :)

I could not say better, that is what happens with the UK national ideas. Nobody can´t dispute the sea to UK so it doesnt deserve to pick naval idea for the rest of the countries and, of course, for UK itself. It is a useless idea because you gave too much power to UK in the sea (and now worse with its own dlc). Please let make the sea great again nerfing uk.

Congratilations for the MP, I have never watched a MP in YouTube but this one is really fun. Too much war and you are very agressive but good for watchers.

Surpise me nobody has picked quantity.

Trade really paid off. :D Making lots of ducats - thanks again to @Meneth for suggesting it.

Now that army professionalism is no longer a concern, it's time to merc up.

I could somewhat understand this way of thinking back when he was part of the unholy alliance. He had a very good understanding with two really powerfull nations when it came to land forces so it made sense to be harasser johan. But that failed. Right now his only reliable ally is morocco. If StarNaN wins the struggle between you two, he is going to have to pick two players to win with him. His options are the Papal States which have been a very usefull ally since the beginning, Bohemia which has supported him in practically every war, the USA which he probably won't pick and Britain which has threatened to cut of his islands and hasn't really helped him prior to this session. The choice is obvious. If you win you will have no problem or remorse stripping him of all of his victory cards. At this point it makes no sense to continue not having serious military ideas.

Also I do not like his idea choices for what he is doing now either. Trade+economic is overkill when you already have the English Channel and naval is completely useless when you have British ideas unless everybody else picks naval I guess. To maximize harassment efficiency I would go maritime-offensive-quantity ( maybe espionage ) and the other ideas that make sense for him are quality and exploration. Maritime + offensive to siege as fast as possible, maritime to have enough ships to completely blockade, offensive helps to raise a new army faster , quantity helps shake of losses and allows him to have more stacks landing at his opponents at the same time, to distract them and maximize his chances of making successful occupations.

One thing to consider is that it is important both sides scored victories and ended the session in an approximate stalemate.

If Byzantium had done too well, it risked intervention from the east. If it looked too weak, the scent of blood would risk drawing in the African block.

If Austria looked too strong, it risked intervention from Qing and/or Japan. If Austria looked weak, it risks losing commitment from its less reliable allies (UK, USA, and Portugal). The way things ended seems to have guaranteed, for now at least, no foreign interventions. We shall see if it continues.

Also noticed Johan carpet blockading the Kaiser. Has the Imperial Byzantine Navy been destroyed? If not, Kaiser Johan could use a fleet in being strategy. Even if the Imperial Navy couldn't hope to take on the British Royal Navy toe to toe, so long as it exists, a large part of the British Navy could be tied up keeping it bottled in port, leaving many fewer ships to blockade around the Mediterranean (or risking their blockading fleets getting picked off one by one). Or are the Royal Navy's ships so powerful and naval battles so long (or the Imperial Navy so diminished) that this isn't viable?

Kaiser Johan doesn't have the economy to maintain enough ships for them to do any good. Nevermind how long they'd take to build,

Take innovative for that sweet +20% infantry CA and Economic for the +5% discipline. While i don't agree with the view of playing this game thinking about the others in the furure, i mean, try to win a trohpy now and worry about the next game... the next game, i would suggest to keep on building an elite army.

I don't think trade was neccesary, Persia node is very good without it aswell. Quantity or Economic would've been better.

Trade ideas helps with steering the Indian Trade up to persian lands, with just 3 merchants this would be hard in a playercontestet area.

I can't take another military idea until the 7th. I've got three already and only two others. Taking Quantity instead of Trade wouldn't have been possible. Econ is indeed great for the disc but would have generated less income than trade. Innovative would more likely be the final idea group to get the infantry CA. Lastly, both are admin and I needed admin to core my expansion in India. Now that I do less conquering and more fighting, I might have more paper mana to spare.

Nevertheless, you are right: Innovative, Econ and Quantity will likely be in Persia's future. :)

Malaya has Trade and Defensive (both picked by AI), and then Exploration and Offensive. No 5th yet, as I've been pumping most monarch points into catching up in tech.

Solid picks by AI. I've seen some borderline criminal ones... :D
