Hi.

After I recently Alt+F4'd on a game, the game just refused to load again! I tried verifyng the game files and even deleting all my game data, including saves. first there were strange error messages regarding files in D:\jenkins\(somehting I can't remember [because I was too stupid to screenshot]) that said it couldn't open a messagetypes.txt. That folder doesn't even exist on my computer!

I then tried to delete everything game-related and reinstall, which did nothing but just crash the game without warning at launch, as well as not save any launcher settings (Ex. I set the game to run on windowed mode, and the launcher ignored it and ran it fullscreen anyway). I have also seen the same problem after a CK2 game I played crashed.
None of the fixes that are on the internet for this worked for me.

is it a "my computer is trash" problem or something I can;t help?

Edit: I saw an earlier thread with the same problem, but it only started showing up the second time I played the game after the patch

this is the error message I saw.. I managed to "recreate" it after I restarted my PC after reinstalling. I also found the appropriate .txt file after a quick glance. is there any problem with it, as the problem persists even after verifying file integrity?

Your antivirus app is getting in the way of the game I'm afraid.

We are having trouble with Avast and our new launcher 2021.1 , although not necessarily this exact issue. Add eu4.exe to the exceptions list of Avast. You should add steam.exe and C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2021.1/paradox launcher.exe to that list. You may need help from Avast support in how to allow those apps through fully.

The same may apply to other antivirus apps.

Let me know if that helps!
